  • Experiments were conducted in a large-scale Ward-type tornado simulator to study tornado-like vortices. Both flow velocities and the pressures at the surface beneath the vortices were measured. An interpretation of these measurements enabled an assessment of the mean flow field as well as the mean and fluctuating characteristics of the surface pressure deficit, which is a manifestation of the flow fluctuation aloft. An emphasis was placed on the effect of the aspect ratio of the tornado simulator on the characteristics of the simulated flow and the corresponding surface pressure deficit, especially the evolution of these characteristics due to the transition of the flow from a single-celled vortex to a two-celled vortex with increasing swirl ratio.

  • This paper discusses the dynamic test of distance relay on transmission line connected unified power flow controller(UPFC) using the real-time digital simulator(RTDS). Depending on operating conditions of UPFC, the trip characteristics of distance relay is influenced by the prefault conditions. In this paper, UPFC is established using the RTDS and then relay test is performed on real time.

  • A study is made of thermal plume flow model for the development of helicopter simulator over the forest fire. For the numerical analysis, a line fire model with Boussinesq fluid approximation, which is idealized by the spreading shape of forest fire on the ground, is adopted. Comparing full 2-D and 3-D numerical solutions with 2-D similarity solution, it has been built a new model that is useful for temperature prediction along the symmetric vertical axis of fire model for both cases of laminar and turbulent flow.

  • Owing to the need to accommodate the load variation, thermal power plants need a modern controller in order to achieve better frequency regulation, faster response and higher efficiency. For a successful development of the digital instrumentation and control system that can adopt advanced control algorithms, power plant simulator must be available for safe and convenient test. In this paper, a simple drum-type boiler model is proposed using Signal Flow Diagram that describes the system by a combination of basic time responses representing the relationships between cause and effect process variables. After verifying the model and thereafter building a simulator based on the proposed model, we tested the operation of the controller and stability or efficiency of the implemented control algorithms.

  • Because of being operated to accomodate the load variation, fossile power plants need modern controller to satisfy frequency regulation, fast response and efficiency requirement. But in the way of developing the Digital Instrumentation and Control System that can adopt advanced control algorithms, power plant simulator must be available for safe and convenient test. In this paper, a simple drum-type boiler model is proposed, using Signal Flow Diagram that describes the system by a collection of basic time response representing the relationship between process variables. • This paper describes the design methodology of the operator training simulator for power monitor and control system in the railway system. In power system, the purpose of energy management system was to monitor, control, and analyze the performance of generation and transmission system based on H/W and S/W. Network analysis applications provide a clear picture of power system characteristics using state estimation, power flow and short circuit analysis. In this respect, the operator training system in the railway system should be equipped with the methodology of these systems. First, the proposed database structure in the railway system was introduced. Then the overall structure of operator training system based on railway analysis applications was proposed. Finally, a methodology to verify the performance of the developed applications was described.

  • In this paper, several application examples of a forging simulator POSFORM were introduced with some forged parts for verification purpose, found in cold or hot forging companies. the forging simulator was also introduced in brief. The simulated results and the actually forged ones were compared in shape or metal flow. It has been shown that the design approach based on the forging simulator is most efficient in reducing design tryouts and development cost and accumulating design experience and technology effectively.

  • Water treatment process simulator is the tool for predicting sequential changes of water quality in a train of unit processes. This predicts the changes through governing equations that represent physicochemical performance of each unit processes with an initial and boundary conditions. Since there is no operational data for the design of a water treatment facility, there is no choice but to predict the performance of the facility by assuming initial and boundary conditions in virtual reality. Therefore, a simulator that can be applied in the design stage of a water treatment facility has no choice but to be built as a numerical analysis model of a deductive technique. In this study, we had conducted basic research on governing equations, inter-process data-flow, and simulator algorithms for the development of simulators. Lastly, this study will contribute to design engineering tool development research in the future by establishing the water treatment theory so that it can be programmed in a virtual world and suggesting a method for digital transformation of the water treatment process.

  • Owing to the variability of large-scaled wind power system, the development of wind farm management technologies and related compensation methods have been receiving attention. To provide an accurate and reliable output power, certain wind farm adopts a specified management system including a wind prediction model and grid expectation solutions for considering grid condition. Those technologies are focused on improving the reliability and stability issues of wind farms, which can affect not only nearby system devices but also a voltage condition of utility grid. Therefore, to adapt the develop management system, an expectation process about voltage condition of Point of Common Coupling should be integrated in operating system for responding system requirements in real-time basis. This paper introduce a grid imposing method for a real-time based wind farm management system. The expected power can be transferred to the power flow section and the required quantity about reactive power can be calculated through the proposed system. For the verification process, the gauss-seidel method is introduced in the Matlab/Simulink for analysing power flow condition. The entire simulation process was designed to interwork with PSCAD for verifying real power system condition.

  • This paper presents a graphical windows-based software for the education and training of the transmission network use of system charge. The developed simulator consist of the main module(MMI,GUI), the power flow module(PF), the power flow tracing module(PFT) and management of usage cost DB module(UCD). Each module has a separate graphical and interactive interfacing window. To have effective education for transmission network use of system charge, the developed simulator are provided with two power system analysis methods. Input data of power system can use the format of PSS/E input data. Also calculation of power flow tracing are provided with four methods such as "Felix Wu","Modified Felix Wu", "DCLF ICRP" and "Reverse MW mile". Results of calculation for usage cost are shown on the window through the table or chart. Therefore user can confirm the detailed differences of results from each calculation method.
