  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the behavior and the mechanism of debris flow on the slope, which has specially various gradient plane. The numerical simulation was performed by using the Finite Differential Element method (FDM) based on the equation for the mass conservation and momentum conservation. The mechanism of flow type for debris flow is divided into three flow types which are stony debris flow, immature debris flow, and turbulent water flow, respectively. First, flow discharge, water flow depth, sediment volume concentration was investigated by variable input of flow discharge at the straight slope angle and two step inclined plane. As the input of flow discharge was decrease, flow discharge and water flow depth was increased, after the first coming debris flow only reached at the downstream. As the input of flow discharge was increased, the curve of flow discharge and flow depth was highly fluctuated. As the results of RMS ratio, the flow discharge and flow depth was lower two step slope angle than the straight slope angle. Second, the behavior of debris flow was investigated by the four cases of gradient degree at the downstream of slope angle. The band width of flow discharge and flow depth for $14^{\circ}$ between $16^{\circ}$ was higher than other gradient degree, and fluctuation curve was continuously high after 10 seconds.

  • Discharge data examine the process of hydrologic cycle and used significantly in water resource planning and irrigation and flood control planning. However, it needs lots of time and money to get the discharge data. So discharge rating curve is usually used in converting discharge data. Therefore reliability of discharge rating curve absolutely depends on quality of discharge data. Many engineers who study hydrologic engineering make high quality discharge data to develop reliable discharge rating curve. And they carry out research on standard and method of discharge measurement, and equipment improvement. Now various flow meters are utilized to make discharge data in Korea. However, accuracy of equipment and experimental research data from measurement are not enough. In this paper, constant discharge flowed through standard concrete channel, and the velocity is measured using various flow meters. Also Discharge is calculated by measured data to compare and analyze. The equipment for the experiment is Price AA(USGS Type AA Current meter), flow meter, ADC, C2 small current meter, flow tracker, Electromagnetic current meter. The discharge got form various flow meters which are widely used for discharge measurement. The various depths of water were examined and compared such as 0.30 m, 0.35 m, 0.40 m, 0.45 m, 0.50 m, 0.55 m. The experiment progresses a round-measurement on 6-case. • Computational study using the 2-dimensional, compressible, Navier-Stokes equations is performed to predict the discharge coefficient of air flow through a film-cooling hole. In order to investigate the effect of internal/external flows on discharge coefficient, the present computational results which are obtained for three flow cases, only external flow, only internal flow, and no flow, are compared with experimental ones. It is found that the computational results predict the discharge coefficient of the film-cooling hole in a reasonable accuracy and the external crossflow reduces the discharge coefficient, while the internal crossflow increases the discharge coefficient in a range of momentum flux ratio $I_{c-jet}$ > 1 due to the total pressure loss and boundary layer effect.

  • Discharge data examine the process of hydrologic cycle and used significantly in water resource planning and irrigation and flood control planning. It makes high quality discharge data, they carry out research on standard and method of discharge measurement, and equipment improvement. Now various flow meters are utilized to make discharge data in Korea. However, accuracy of equipment and exprerimental research data from measurement are not enough. ADCP(Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) have been introduced and utilized for flow measurements since the end of 1980's. ADCP flow method is a formal method for flow measurement can easily applyd to relatively large rivers gradually recognized. This equipment can measure the non-contact three-dimensional velocity and water depth data very quickly and efficiently. Also, spatial and temporal resolution of the data is more accurate than any other flow measurement methods which measure flow rate by velocity - area measurement method. In this paper, the velocity is measured using various flow meter and verified the effectiveness by applying from the ADCP in Geum-river. Various flow meters which are med for discharge measurements are VALEPORT002, FLOW TRACKER, PRICE AA and ADCP. The average of five times flow measurement result by ADCP was $10.412m^3/s$, with a standard deviation of 0.68. The repeat test by ADCP and comparison between ADCP and other flow devices to verify the most import factor, flow measurement accuracy. In the result, repeat test of the ADCP showed similar values, flow values were similar to other velocity device results and the average error is 7.7%.

  • Differential pressure devices such as an orifice and Venturi are widely used in the measurement of flow rate of fluid mainly due to cost effectiveness and easy installation. In the current study, the viscoelastic effect on discharge and loss coefficients of those flow meters were investigated experimentally. Aqueous solutions of Polyacrylamide (200, 500, and 800 ppm) as viscoelastic fluids were used. Discharge coefficient of an orifice for viscoelastic fluids increased significantly up to approximately 15-20% when compared with that for water, while loss coefficient decreased up to 10-25% depending on the diameter ratio, .betha.. Also, pressure recovery for viscoelastic fluids was extended much longer than that for water. On the other hand, discharge and loss coefficients of Venturi for viscoelastic fluids were found to be strongly dependent on the Reynolds number. In both flow meters, the concentration effect for discharge and loss coefficients was not observed at more over than 200 ppm of aqueous solution. Conclusively, orifice and Venturi flow meters should be calibrated very carefully in the flow rate measurement for viscoelastic fluids.

  • In this study, the lateral overflow discharge coefficients for the curvatures of side weir on meandering channel were analyzed. The side weir installed in accordance with the variation of the radius of curvature of the central angle bends with $180^{\circ}$. FLOW-3D model is applied to calculate the discharge coefficients of the side-weir on meandering and straight channels and the characteristics of the discharge coefficients are analysed. In order to verify the numerical model, the results from the hydraulic experiment conducted by the former research are compared with the results simulated by FLOW-3D in the same conditions. The discharge coefficients are calculated for the ratio between curvature ($R_c$) and channel width (b), and the ratio between over flow discharge of the straight channel ($Q_{wc}$) and the meandering channel ($Q_{wc}$) are compared. As the result, the discharge coefficients depend on the weir depth on upstream, and the radius of curvature, so that the discharge coefficients of side weir on the meandering channel can be estimated by them on the straight channel.

  • The Han River is the only waterway in Korea where estuary is not blocked by dykes so that tidal water is flowing in and out through the tidal reach. The extreme tidal range in the Yellow Sea causes an intense flood current, stretching over horizontal extents of tens of kilometers into the rivers. To elucidate the flow reversal by discharge conditions and transient tidal level in the Han river, numerical simulations were conducted under 7 boundary conditions for two days with 10 minute time step. As the flow conditions changed from low discharge and high tidal difference to high discharge and low tidal difference, the flow reversals became weaker and the velocity of forward flow direction became higher due to the increased flow momentums and decreased tidal differences. In the case of normal flow, the maximum reverse velocity was 0.4 m/s, which was equivalent to the maximum forward velocity. In addition, the pattern of the development and decay of forward and reverse flow was presented.

  • In this study, optimal design methods were applied to the agent discharge flow of clean agent fire extinguishing systems. The methods combined optimal design theory and engineering theory for engineering analysis in a design program or coast savings in value engineering. Optimal design parameters were determined to optimize the agent discharge flow based on the design theory of the clean agent fire extinguishing systems and the theory of optimal design. The design factors were verified in regard to suitability for the performance of fire extinguishing systems. The results provide a foundation for optimal design method methods in other fire extinguishing systems. Optimization of the agent discharge flow of the discharge nozzle was confirmed by the constraints on the inner diameter of the discharge nozzle and the pipe, agent arrival time, flow, and pressure variation of the agent. The deviation of discharge pressure and agent time of the agent discharge nozzle were found to correlate with the pressure variation.

  • In Korea, total sediment discharge of a river has been estimated simply by using certain sediment transport formulas including, among others, Einstein's formula. Those formular, however, are known not to be reliable enough for the result calculated by them to be used directly to river planning and management. Therefore, the study used the Modified Einstein Procedure to the estimation of total sediment discharge, because this method is reliable estimated by measurement. Here, measurement of sediment discharge used depth integrating method. The major results obtained from the study for estimation by depth integrating method of sediment discharge in Naeseong stream are as follow; 1 The sedeiment characteristics of Naeseong stream are; The distribution of sediment grain size shows that silt and clay are 55% and sand is 45%. and the bed load sediment grain size is constituted that sand contained with the grain size from O.062mm to 2.0mm is 80% 2. The sediment rating formulas derived from the regression analysis between the sediment discharge and flow discharge are; Seogpo-Gyo : Qs=$0.017 \times 10^{-4} Q^{2.352}$, where discharge is l0cms $0.074 \times 10^{-4} Q^{2.066}$, where discharge is l0cms
