In this study, compared with the result of water surface elevation and water velocity on the establishment of river maintenance basic plan and result of HEC-GeoRAS based GIS, and after use the result of water surface elevation and velocity were observed in the Han stream on Jeju island, analysis 2 dimensional stream flow. the lateral hydraulic characteristics and curved channel of the stream were analyzed by applying SMS-RMA2 a 2 dimensional model. The results of the analysis using HEC-RAS model and HEC-GeoRAS model indicated that the distribution ranges of water surface elevation and water velocity were similar, but the water surface elevation by section showed a difference of 0.7~2.18 EL.m and 0.63~1.16 EL.m respectively, and water velocity also showed differences of maximum 1.58m/sec and 2.67m/sec. SMS-RMA2 analysis was done with the sphere of Muifa the typhoon as a boundary condition, and as a result, water velocity distribution was found to be 1.19 through 3.91 m/sec, and the difference of lateral water velocity in No. 97 through 99 the curved channel of the stream was analyzed to be 1.59 through 2.36 m/sec. In conclusion it is anticipated that the flow analysis of 2 dimension model of stream can reflect the hydraulic characteristics of the stream curved channel or width and shape, and can be applied effectively in the establishment of river maintenance basic plan or management and designing of stream.
The flow characteristics of rectangular and 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 trapezoidal weirs were investigated through hydraulic experiments in order calculate the exact overflow discharge of the broad-crested side weir. The flow was found to be most stable in trapezoidal shapes with the lowest incline. The 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 trapezoidal weirs had 5.67% and 8.57% increases, respectively, compared to the rectangular weir in terms of overflow amount, which suggests that they are more effective in preventing flood. An integrated discharge coefficient equation taking into account the discharge coefficient equation and shapes was proposed through a multiple linear regression analysis with an addition of a new parameter for the side wear, $L/L_H$, to the conventional discharge coefficient equation. Also, the applicability of the newly proposed discharge coefficient equation was reviewed by comparing the measured and calculated overflow amounts based on the experimental data of preceding researches and existing researchers and the research data of this study.

Korean Government has been promoting Four River Restoration Project (i.e., Han, Geum, Nakdong, and Yeongsan rivers) since the second half of 2008. This project is expected to protect against floods and droughts by water resources management. Many researchers have study water resources management, but most studies were focused on direct runoff. However, in order to efficiently protect against floods and droughts, baseflow should be studied as well as direct runoff. Because baseflow has a great effect on streamflow, it needs to be correctly analyzed. For more accurate analysis of baseflow, direct runoff and baseflow from streamflow should be separated first. In this study, 12 flow gauging stations of four major rivers were selected, and flow data from them were obtained (2004-2010) through WAMIS and Web-based SWAT Bflow system (http://www.envsys.co.kr/~swatbflow) which was used to separate direct runoff and baseflow. Baseflow values of Pass 2 in SWAT Bflow system were used. As a result of this study, baseflow contribution was ranged from 23.4% to 68.6% and accounted for about 50% of streamflow. Through this study, it shows that in the case of the flow fluctuation, baseflow is more affected than direct runoff by changes in streamflow in a flood or dry season. Thus, baseflow estimation should not be overlooked for efficient water resources management. However, it has a limitation in this study that because this study used to select randomly 12 flow gauging stations, it did not show a common tendency on each watershed. It is important that flow gauging stations reflected on topographic characteristics of each watershed should be selected in a rigorous manner for further reliable and accurate baseflow estimation on four major rivers.
A numerical model of surface runoff and river flow has been applied to small- and large-size catchment areas in order to investigate the physical characteristics of river flow during flood period. Several refinements are made on the existing model SIRG-RS for the ways of rainfall input through surface runoff, river junction treatment and the computation of river flow on steep slope. For the computation of frictional forces, employed is the power law of friction factor which is a function of Reynolds number and relative roughness height. The empirical equation of friction factor is developed using recent field data as well as laboratory data. The refined model has been applied to small-size catchment area as well as large-size catchment area, and the computation results are found in good agreement with the observations in both cases.

We investigated the deposition characteristics and mass transport flux estimation of the Nakdong estuary, Korea. To understand the effects of the tidal current circulation that influences estuary terrain changes, we used a 2D numerical model to map seawater circulation under three different situations, with the level of river flow being set as none or flood. The net-water flux of the cross-sectional area between sandbars (known as dung) was estimated. From our review of previous research, we know that the development of local sandbars shifted from the west to the east side of the estuary after the construction of the Nakdong River dike. Current development is occurring mostly at the Bakhap-dung near Tadea. The seawater circulation pattern over this large-scale area of tidal na is brings changes related to the quantity of the outflow from the Nakdong River. Based on the calculated results for the net-water flux of the cross-sectional area, we see very strong accumulation in local waters around Jangjiado, Bakhapdung, and Tadae under flood river flow conditions, but accumulation in local waters around Jinudo under the other states of flow. Consequently, in the Nakdong estuary, the main sensitive regions that are affected by changes in the flow of river discharge are the local waters around Jangiado, Bakhapdung, Tadae, and Jinudo.

This thesis is the final report which has long been studied by the author to obtain the design basis for various hydrological constructions with the specific system suitable to the natural environmental conditions in Korea. This report is divided into two parts: one is to estimate runoff volume from watersheds and the other to estimate the peak discharge for a single storm. According to the result of observed runoff record from watersheds, it is known that Kajiyama formula is useful instrument in estimating runoff volume from watersheds in this country. But it has been found that this formula shows us 20-30% less than the actual flow. Therefore, when wihed to bring a better result, the watershed characteristics coefficient in this formula, that is, f-value, should be corrected to 0.5-0.8. As for the method to estimate peak discharge from drainage basin, the author proposes to classify it in two ways; one is small size watershed and the other large size watershed. The maximum -flood discharge rate $Q_p$ and time to peak Pt obtained from the observed record on the small size watershed are compared by various methods and formulas which are based upon the modern hydrological knowledge. But it was fou.d that it. was not a satisfied result. Therefore, the author proposes. tocomputate $Q_p$, to present 4.0-5.0% for the total runoff volume ${\Sigma}Q$.${\Sigma}Q$ is computed under the assumption of 30mm 103s in watershed per day and to change the theoritical total flow volume to one hour dura tion total flow rate when design daily storm is given. Time to peak Pt is derived from three parameters which are u,w,k. These are computed by relationship between total runoff volume (ha-m unit)and $Q_p$. (C.M.S. unit). Finally, the author checked out these results obtained from 51 hydrographs and got a satisfied result. Therefore the author suggested the model of design dimensionless unit-hydrograph. And the author believes that this model will be much available at none runoff record river site. In the large size watersheds in Korea when the maximum discharge occurs, the effective rainfall is two consequtive stormy days. So the loss in watershed was assutned as 6Omm/2days,and the author proposed 3-hour-daration hydrograph flow distribution percentage. This distribution percentage will be sure to form the hydrograph coordinate.
To operate scientifical and integrated management of water resources, it needs to identify clearly the quantitative variation and moving pathway of water resources in a basin. Moreover, it needs to also estimate more precisely the amount of runoff generating from the precipitation. Thus, in this study, to carry out more reliable hydrologic analyses, the runoff characteristics according to detailed runoff components and water balance in a basin are analyzed. As a result of yearly water balance analyses, during the period of drought year, the loss is bigger than that of 6-year mean loss and the return flow of groundwater is the most dominant component of runoff. During the period of flood year, the loss is smaller about 4% than that of 6-year mean loss and the subsurface water is the most dominant component of runoff. The loss due to the interception and evapotranspiration for 6-year mean loss is about 53% of the total rainfall, the mean runoff ratio is about 27% and the baseflow is about 22%.
Stream inflows induced by flood runoffs have a higher density than the ambient reservoir water because of a lower water temperature and elevated suspended sediment(SS) concentration. As the propagation of density currents that formed by density difference between inflow and ambient water affects reservoir water quality and ecosystem, an understanding of reservoir density current is essential for an optimization of filed monitoring, analysis and forecast of SS and nutrient transport, and their proper management and control. This study was aimed to quantify the characteristics of inflow density current including plunge depth($d_p$) and distance($X_p$), separation depth($d_s$), interflow thickness($h_i$), arrival time to dam($t_a$), reduction ratio(${\beta}$) of SS contained stream inflow for different flood magnitude in Daecheong Reservoir with a validated two-dimensional(2D) numerical model. 10 different flood scenarios corresponding to inflow densimetric Froude number($Fr_i$) range from 0.920 to 9.205 were set up based on the hydrograph obtained from June 13 to July 3, 2004. A fully developed stratification condition was assumed as an initial water temperature profile. Higher $Fr_i$(inertia-to-buoyancy ratio) resulted in a greater $d_p,\;X_p,\;d_s,\;h_i$, and faster propagation of interflow, while the effect of reservoir geometry on these characteristics was significant. The Hebbert equation that estimates $d_p$ assuming steady-state flow condition with triangular cross section substantially over-estimated the $d_p$ because it does not consider the spatial variation of reservoir geometry and water surface changes during flood events. The ${\beta}$ values between inflow and dam sites were decreased as $Fr_i$ increased, but reversed after $Fr_i$>9.0 because of turbulent mixing effect. The results provides a practical and effective prediction measures for reservoir operators to first capture the behavior of turbidity inflow.
In parallel flow condition, to estimate the stability of the extended embankment constructed on a permeable foundation ground, a laboratory model test was performed due to extended materials and water level increasing velocity of a flood period. A laboratory model test was peformed for different permeability coefficients ($K_1=2.0{\times}10^{-5}cm/sec,\;K_2=1.5{\times}10^{-4}cm/sec,\;K_3=2.3{\times}10^{-3}cm/sec$) using seepage. The fluctuation of water level occurring to an extended embankment was analyzed by laboratory model tests as vary the increasing velocity of water level with 0.6cm/min, 1.2cm/min, 2.4cm/min respectively. In analysis results, the increase of water level into embankment occurs rapidly because seepage water moving along with a permeable soil flow into embankment. The larger the permeability coefficient of an extended part is the longer initial seepage distance, and the exit point of downstream slope is gradually increased and then shows unstable seepage behavior as occurring partial collapse. As the increasing velocity of water level increase, the initial seepage line is formed low, and the discharge increases. Therefore, the embankment extended by a lower permeable soil than existing embankment shows stable seepage behavior because an existing embankment plays a role as filter for an extended part.
In order to grasp physical characteristics of Ganajin Bay receiving the effluents from land, a comprehensive field surve)'has been conducted at the north of Wando and Gogeumdo in 2002. Water temperature was most high in September while most low in December. A high temperature in September was inferred to have caused by the dispersion of warm fresh water with favor of a dominant wind in autumn. However, salinity and sigma-t in situ was most low in September while most high in December. A low salinity (or density) in September turned out to reflect the influence of a dense rainfall in summer. Water temperature, salinity and density at the surface layer were lower than those at the bottom layer, except for December. Their horizontal profiles suggested the influence of effluents such as Tamjin River. Particularly, time series of water temperature acquired near the sluice and at the north channel of Wando tended to rise at the flood flow but fall at the ebb flow in accordance with the tide. The form ratio of the tide in the study area was $0.31\~0.32$ and the amplitude of the tide appeared to increase towards the west. Northeastward or southwestward flows prevailed in this area but the residual flows were all northeastward with a magnitude of $3\~4cm/s$.
