Flood risk map, flood damage map, disaster information map, inundation trace map are involved with the cartographic analysis of flood inundation based on prevention, preparation, restoration, response from natural disasters such as flood, flooding, etc. In this study, the analysis for channel and basin characteristics Chungju dam to Paldang dam of South han river after four river project. Flood scenario is selected to take advantage of design flood level of schematic design for river. Flood inundation of one dimensional non-uniform flow by using HEC-RAS with basin characteristics is accomplished and two dimensional unsteady flow was interpreted by using FLUMEN. Frequency analysis is carried out about each abundance of South han river for 100 year period, 200 year period and 500 year period. Flooding disaster area of 100 year period on 0.5m damage functions is 2378.8ha, 200 year period on 0.5m damage functions is 3155.2ha, 500 year period on 0.5m damage functions is 3995.3ha respectively. It will be significant data for decision making to establish inundation trace map for providing basic plan for river maintenance, land use plan, flood protection plan, application plan and getting information of flood expectation area.

Lately, intensity and frequency of natural disasters such as flood are increasing because of abnormal climate. Casualties and property damages due to large-scale floods such as Typhoon Rusa in 2002 and Typhoon Maemi in 2003 rapidly increased, and these show the limits of the existing disaster prevention measures and flood forecasting systems regarding irregular climate changes. In order to efficiently respond to extraordinary flood, it is important to provide effective countermeasures through an inundation model that can accurately simulate flood inundation patterns. However, the existing flood inundation analysis model has problems such as excessive take of analysis time and accuracy of the analyzed results. Therefore, this study conducted a flood inundation analysis by using the Gerris flow solver that uses quadtree grid, targeting the Baeksan Levee in the Nakdong River Basin that collapsed because of a concentrated torrential rainfall in August, 2002. Through comparisons with the FLUMEN model that uses unstructured grid among the existing flood inundation models and the actual flooded areas, it determined the applicability and efficiency of the quadtree grid-based flood inundation model of the Gerris flow solver.

To reduce the damage of extreme flooding caused by climate change and to create flood mitigation sections in a nature-friendly riparian area, it is necessary to restore the floodplain area by referring to the past floodplain section of the current inland waterfront area before the levee was built. This study proposed a method of selecting a location for floodplain restoration using old maps of the Geum River study section and analyzed the effect of flood level reduction through unsteady flow numerical simulations using the floodplain as a flood mitigation space. As a result of analyzing changes in the river areas using old maps, the river section was estimated to gradually reduce by 27.8% (1,059,380 m2) in 2020 compared to 1919, and it was found to have an effective storage capacity of 2,200,868 m3 when restored to offline storage. The flood level and discharge control effects analyzed based on HEC-RAS unsteady flow simulation were 16 cm and 219.01 m3/s, respectively, in the downstream cross-section. In the numerical simulation in this paper, the flood mitigation space was applied as an offline reservoir. The effect of reducing the flood level may differ if levee retreat/relocation is applied.

The hydrodynamic models are widely used in the research for analysis of flow characteristics and design of hydraulic structure and river channel. These models need to be calibrated with observed data. But, there are few field data of two-dimensional flow velocity in flood because the direct measurement of the flood flow velocity are very dangerous. For this reason the results of two-dimensional numerical models are usually calibrated and verified with only a few observed data. Moreover, the verification of numerical models for the design flood is usually carried out using the result of one-dimensional model, HEC-RAS. In this study, using the flow velocity profile extracted from the aerial photos of a flood of the Tone River in Japan, two-dimensional numerical models, RAM2 in RAMS, RMA2 in SMS, and one-dimensional numerical model, HEC-RAS which are most widely used in research and design work are verified and the validity for verification of two-dimensional models with HEC-RAS is reviewed. The results showed that the water surface elevation of HEC-RAS, RAM2 and RMA2 models have similar results with observed data. But, the velocity results of RAM2 and RMA2 models in the floodplain have some difference with the velocity from aerial photo analysis. And the velocity result of HEC-RAS has big difference with the sectional averaged value of velocity from aerial photo analysis.
We conducted a three-dimensional numerical simulation by using the FLOW-3D, with RANS as the governing equation, in an effort to track the dam-break wave.immediately after a dam break.in areas surrounding where the dam break took place as well as the bed change caused by the dam-break wave. In particular, we computed the bed change in the movable bed and compared the variation in flood wave induced by the bed change with our analysis results in the fixed bed. The analysis results can be summarized as follows: First, the analysis results on the flood wave in the L-shaped channel and on the flood wave and bed change in the movable-bed channel successfully reproduce the findings of the hydraulic experiment. Second, the concentration of suspended sediment is the highest in the front of the flood wave, and the greatest bed change is observed in the direct downstream of the dam where the water flow changes tremendously. Generated in the upstream of the channel, suspended sediment results in erosion and sedimentation alternately in the downstream region. With the arrival of the flood wave, erosion initially prove predominant in the inner side of the L-shaped bend, but over time, it tends to move gradually toward the outer side of the bend. Third, the flood wave in the L-shaped channel with a movable bed propagates at a slower pace than that in the fixed bed due to the erosion and sedimentation of the bed, leading to a remarkable increase in flood water level.

The riffle and pool play an important role for composing river front, but very little information was used for river restoration considering flood control. In this paper extensive field investigation was carried out to estimate hydraulic processes in the pool. Furthermore diurnal stratification model was developed and applied to assess flow change in pool. The physical mechanism of water flow including diurnal processes was well simulated, the results show that diurnal variation of water flow in the pool about 2 m depth is governed by the level of mixing due to density flow. These effort will be useful to guide field data collection work and to understand primary production.
This study analyzed the inflow characteristics of debris flow according to shape of defensive structure and computed risk index. In order to simulate debris flow, two shapes of defensive structure were considered. Initial mass distribution was set with a rectangular shape and defensive structures were set semi-circular shape and rectangular shape, respectively. It was found that a defensive structure with semicircular shape was more vulnerable to debris impact compared with rectangular shape because the flow mass became concentrated in quadrant part of the inner circle. If the velocity of the debris flow was less than 1 m/s, the risk assessment by FII (Flood Intensity Index) was much appropriate. However, when the movement of debris runout was faster than 1 m/s, the risk index of FHR (Flood Hazard Rating) provided improved classification due to its subdivided hazardous range.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of the two dimensional model in natural rivers. In this study, two dimensional unite element model, SMS, is used to simulate a complex flow along with the sediment movements in the natural river. The RMA-2 model embeded in SMS is used to simulate flow phenomena and SED-2D model is employed to simulate sediment transport. The model is applied to the confluence zone of the Gam River and mouth of Nakdong River. For model calibration, the result of the unsteady flow analysis is compared with the Typhoon 'Rusa' data. In addition, the runoff analysis was conducted for the determination of the project flood and the flood forecasting. The simulation results presented the characteristics of two dimensional flow with velocity vector and flow depth. The sediment transport characteristics are shown in terms of sediment concentration as well as bed elevation change. Accordingly, the SMS model in this study turned out to be very effective tool for the simulation of the hydrodynamic characteristics under the various flow conditions and corresponding sediment transports in natural rivers.

This study aims at investigating the failure cases of the pre-cast block system in river environments which widely used nowadays and reviewing the effect and flow resistance for grass concrete structure through the physical experiments by hydraulic model test and developing application method in river slope or levee which has rigid flood resistance. Grass concrete structure has been independently tested under high velocity flow under the super critical condition, it survived the 8 m/sec maximum flow velocity. This results shows grass concrete system is also suited to use in aggressive river environments such as repairing a flood damaged embankment that had placed at risk the adjacent drainage channel with vegetation.

Using hydrometric data from an upland river in North Wales, a relationship between rate of river flow and water stored within the catchment area (catchment storage) is assumed to exist, and is evaluated from an analysis of winter recession curves. This storage/river flow relationship, when combined with water balance equations, produces a set of equations which may be used for "routing" input of rainfall through a storage with defined outflow characteristics, providing a straightforward method of flood prediction and analysis from rainfall data. Recorded and predicted flood hydrographs are compared, and the effectiveness and limitations of the method are considered. The development of a complete mathematical model, embodying the storage/river flow relationship, and suitable for generation of continuous run-off records from rainfall and evaporation data, is also considered.
