In order to control vibration in structures, it is desirable to be able to identify dominant paths of vibration transmission from sources through the structure to some points of interest. Structural intensity vector(power flow per width of cross section) using cross spectra is able to measure the vibration power flow at a point in a structure. This paper describes the structural intensity measurement of 2-dimensional structure. Structural intensity of 2-dimensional structure can be obtained from eight point cross spectral measurement per axis, or two point measurement per axis on the assumption of far field. Approximate formulation of the relation between bending waves in structures and structural intensity makes it possible to separate the wave components by which one can get a state of the vibration field. Experimental results are obtained on an infinite plate at the near and far field in flexural vibration. The measurement error of two point measurement is rather bigger than eight point measurement on account of the assumption that Poisson's ratio is 1. The structural intensity vectors on the plate are checked the ability to identify the path of vibration power flow in random excitation and 200Hz sine excitation, the result of two point measurememt is almost the same as the result of eight point measurement in 200Hz sine excitation.
Masonry walls are sometimes removed in buildings to either make new passages or increase the usable space. This may change the loading paths in the structure, and require new beams to transfer the loads which are carried by the masonry walls that are to be removed. One possible method of creating such new beams is to attach steel plates onto part of the existing walls to form a steel plate-masonry composite (SPMC) beam, leading to a new structure with part of the masonry wall supported by a new SPMC beam. This paper presents an experimental investigation into the interaction between the SPMC beam and the masonry wall above. Five SPMC beams supporting a masonry wall were tested to study the influence of parameters including the height-to-span ratio of the masonry wall, height of the beam and thickness of the steel plates. The test results, including failure mode, load-carrying capacity, load-deflection curves and strain distribution, are presented and discussed. It is found that for developing better arching effect in the masonry wall the ratio of the in-plane flexural stiffness of the masonry wall to the flexural stiffness of the SPMC beam must be between 2.8 and 7.1.

Recently many high-rise apartment buildings are constructed using the box system which is composed only of concrete walls and slabs. Commercial softwares such as ETABS used for the analysis of high-rise apartment buildings are employing the rigid diaphragm assumption for simplicity in the analysis procedure. In general the flexural stiffness of floor slabs are ignored in the analysis, This assumption may be reasonable for the estimation of seismic response of framed structures. But in the case of the box system used in the apartment buildings floor slabs has major effects on the lateral stiffness of the structure. So if the flexural stiffness of slabs in the box system is ignored the lateral stiffness may be significantly underestimated, For these reasons it is recommended to use plate elements to represent the floor slabs. In the study A typical frame structure and a box system structure are chosen as the example structure. When a 20 story frame structure is subjected to the static lateral loads the displacements of the roof are 15.33cm and 17.52cm for the cases with and without the flexural stiffness of the floor slabs. And in case of box system the roof displacement was reduced from 16.18cm to 8.61cm The model without the flexural stiffness of floor slabs turned out to elongate the natural periods of vibration accordingly.

Serviceability of reinforced concrete building is affected dominantly by long term deflection of slab. And in case of reinforced concrete building with flat plate slab, severe long term deflection was expected because it has no beams which have large flexural stiffness. Therefore it is important to calculate exactly long term deflection of RC flat plate structure to assure its serviceability. However, current codes couldn't calculate exactly long term deflection of RC flat plate structure because they don't consider effects of boundary condition and construction load. By the way, recently the method to calculate long term deflection of RC flat plate structure was proposed by considering these effects. In the present study, long term deflection of RC flat plate structure was analyzed by comparing this method with recent experimental results. In conclusion, long term deflection of RC flat plate structure was affected considerably by effects of boundary condition, construction load and tensile strength of concrete. And recently proposed method considers these effects reasonably but it should be modified to reflect creep effect of RC flat plate slab reasonably.

The Rehabilitation and repair of structurally deteriorated reinforced concrete structure become more necessary as time goes by. The goal of this study is that provide the data about flexural retrofitted effect of RC beam strengthened by Steel Plate. In order to provide the data, 6 specimens were manufactured and divided with standard specimen and damaged degree A, B, C. Division of damaged A, B, C is based on deflection and degree of crack. In the determination of deflection and degree of crack, we loaded standard specimen to failure under two-point bending to find yielding load and failure load, and then we found deflections and degree of crack that correspond to 75%, 100%, 105% of the yielding load of standard specimen respectively. When we are compared with standard specimen and strengthened specimens, we founded from the experimental results that flexural capacity of structurally damaged beam strengthened by Steel Plate incremented highly, ductility was decreased, and energy absorbtion capacity was almost same.
Cracks in plate-like structures are some of the main reasons for destruction of the entire structure. In this study, a novel two-stage methodology is proposed for damage detection of flexural plates using an optimized artificial neural network. In the first stage, location of damages in plates is investigated using curvature-moment and curvature-moment derivative concepts. After detecting the damaged areas, the equations for damage severity detection are solved via Bat Algorithm (BA). In the second stage, in order to efficiently reduce the computational cost of model updating during the optimization process of damage severity detection, multiple damage location assurance criterion index based on the frequency change vector of structures are evaluated using properly trained cascade feed-forward neural network (CFNN) as a surrogate model. In order to achieve the most generalized neural network as a surrogate model, its structure is optimized using binary version of BA. To validate this proposed solution method, two examples are presented. The results indicate that after determining the damage location based on curvature-moment derivative concept, the proposed solution method for damage severity detection leads to significant reduction of computational time compared with direct finite element method. Furthermore, integrating BA with the efficient approximation mechanism of finite element model, maintains the acceptable accuracy of damage severity detection.

Cracking of slabs will be caused by applied load and volume changes during the life of a structure and thus it reduces flexural stiffness of slabs. The effect of slab cracking must be considered for appropriate modeling of the flexural stiffness for frame members used in structural analysis. Analytical and experimental study was undertaken to estimate the stiffness reduction of slabs. In the analytical approach, the trend of slab stiffness reduction related to gravity and lateral loads is found and the stiffness reduction factor ranged from a half to a quarter in ACI building code is reasonable when defining range. Analyzing results of the test by Hwang and Moehle for 0.5% drift show that the differences of rotational stiffness on the connection types is found and good results of lateral stiffness using the value of one-third is obtained.
In this research, the study of the thermoelastic flexural analysis of silicon carbide/Aluminum graded (FG) sandwich 2D uniform structure (plate) under harmonic sinusoidal temperature load over time is presented. The plate is modeled using a simple two dimensional integral shear deformation plate theory. The current formulation contains an integral terms whose aim is to reduce a number of variables compared to others similar solutions and therefore minimize the computation time. The transverse shear stresses vary according to parabolic distribution and vanish at the free surfaces of the structure without any use of correction factors. The external load is applied on the upper face and varying in the thickness of the plates. The structure is supposed to be composed of "three layers" and resting on nonlinear visco-Pasternak's-foundations. The governing equations of the system are deduced and solved via Hamilton's principle and general solution. The computed results are compared with those existing in the literature to validate the current formulation. The impacts of the parameters (material index, temperature exponent, geometry ratio, time, top/bottom temperature ratio, elastic foundation type, and damping coefficient) on the dynamic flexural response are studied.

This paper describes the experimental study on the structural behavior of the joint plane between a RC(Reinforced Concrete) wall and a SC(Steel Plate Concrete) wall under out-of plane flexural loads and in-plane shear loads. The test specimens were produced with L and I shape to assess efficiently flexural and shear behavior of the structures. In order to consider dynamic loads such as earthquake, cyclic loading tests were carried out. As results of the out-of plane flexural tests, ductile failure mode of vertical bars was shown under a push load and the failure load was more than nominal strength of the specimen. And the latter test was performed to verify the variation which was composition presence of horizontal bars in the SC member. The test results showed that capacity of the specimens was more than their nominal strength regardless of composition presence of horizontal bars.

This paper presents the design, fabrication and performance of a reinforced concrete beam strengthened by GFRP box plate and its possibility for structural rehabilitations. The load capacity, ductility and failure mode of reinforced concrete structures strengthened by FRP box plate were investigated and compared with traditional FRP plate strengthening method. This is intended to assess the feasibility of using FRP box plate for repair and strengthening of damaged RC beams. A series of four-point bending tests were conducted on RC beams with or without strengthening FRP systems the influence of concrete cover thickness on the performance of overall stiffness of the structure. The parameters obtained by the experimental studies were the stiffness, strength, crack width and pattern, failure mode, respectively. The test yielded complete load-deflection curves from which the increase in load capacity and the failure mode was evaluated.
