  • In this paper, the results of an experimental study were presented by measuring and comparing the flexural strength and deformation on the carbon fiber sheet strength reinforced concrete beam considering end anchorage effect. For this purpose, total six specimens of 100×100×600mm size were prepared and tested according to the KDS 14 20 20. The specimens were categorized in three cases as reference beams without strengthening, beams carbon fiber strengthened but not anchored and beams carbon fiber strengthened also anchored. Experimental results showed that the end anchorage contributed to increase the flexural strength about 42% greater than that of carbon fiber sheets alone, and the number and width of cracks were relatively increased. The results support a considerable effects of end anchorage for carbon fiber strengthened reinforced concrete beams in enhancing the flexural performance. Further studies are needed in durability and long term behavior of carbon fiber sheet strengthened reinforced concrete beams.

  • In this paper, effect of steel fiber inclusion, compressive strength of matrix, shear reinforcement and shear span to depth ratio on the flexural behavior of UHPFRC(Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete) were investigated with test of 10-UHPFRC beam specimens. All test specimens were subjected to the flexural static loading. It was shown that steel fiber significantly improve the shear strength of UHPFRC beams. 2% volume fraction of steel fiber change the mode of failure from shear failure to flexural failure and delayed the failure of compressive strut with comparatively short shear span to depth ratio. UHPFRC beams without steel fiber had a 45-degree crack angle and fiber reinforced one had lower crack angle. Shear reinforcement contribution on shear strength of beams can be calculated by 45-degree truss model with acceptable conservatism. Using test results, French and Korean UHPFRC design recommendations were evaluated. French recommendation have shown conservative results on flexural behavior but Korean recommendation have shown overestimation for flexural strength. Both recommendations have shown the conservatism on the flexural ductility and shear strength either.

  • Steel Fiber Reinforced Shotcrete(SFRS) has been prevalently used in lining to stabilize tunnel structures as temporary or permanent support. In recent, it is one of the major elements of tunnel construction, and so the quality control of SFRC should be clarified to guarantee the safety. The experimental study has been performed to verify the possible correlations in several chracteristics related to quality of SFRC and examine the applicability of round panel test for in field. The test variables were the type and dosage of accelerator, aspect ratio of fiber, and fiber content. The test results such as compressive strength, flexural strength, flexural toughness, and energy absorption capacity, were exmained and analyzed scrutinizingly.

  • In this study, the flexural behaviors of full-scale prestressed concrete box girders are experimentally investigated. Four girders were fabricated using two types of concrete (compressive strengths: 50 MPa and 70 MPa) and tested under four-point bending until failure. The measured parameters included the deflection, the stress and strain in concrete and steel bars, and cracks in concrete. The measurement results were used to analyze the failure mode, load-bearing capacity, and deformability of each girder. A finite element model is established to simulate the flexural behaviors of the girders. The results show that the use of high-performance concrete and reasonable combination of prestressed tendons could improve the mechanical performance of the box girders, in terms of the crack resistance, load-carrying capacity, stress distribution, and ductility.

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the flexural performance of concrete members strengthened with external steel plates for the purpose of improving seismic performance. In order to strengthen the structure, a strengthening method was applied that wraps the walls and columns with steel members. The partial section of the wall with the longest span in the structure was manufactured in real size and the strengthening effect was confirmed by performing a static load test. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the strengthened section exhibited sufficient flexural performance satisfied to the seismic requirements, but the behavior until failure was not obtained because of actuator capacity. It was confirmed that the strengthened member resists the out-of-plane moment with a composite behavior. It was verified that the stiffness and load carrying capacity of the strengthened member were improved compared to the non-strengthened member by displacement and strain measurements.

  • Effects of tensile strength and aspect ratio of steel fiber on compressive and flexural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) with high- and normal-strength were investigated. Also, this study explores compressive behavior of SFRC with different loading rate. For this purpose, four types of steel fiber were used for SFRC with specified compressive strength of 35 and 60 MPa, respectively. Cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 150 mm and height of 300 mm were made for compression test, and prismatic specimens with a $150{\times}150mm$ cross-section and 450 mm span length were made for flexural test. Test results from compression and flexural tests indicated that the toughness of concrete significant increased with steel fibers. Especially, using steel fiber with high tensile strength and aspect ratio can be lead to performance improvement of high-strength SFRC. In this study, equations are suggested to predict compressive toughness ratio of SFRC from flexural toughness ratio.

  • The flexural behavior test of UHPC segmental box girder which has 160 MPa compressive strength and 15.4 m length was carried out. The effect of steel fibers in combination with reinforcing bars on improving the ductile performance of UHPC box girder was evaluated by comparing the flexural behavior of the UHPC segmental box girders made by the two kinds of mixing portion. The test variables are volume fraction of steel fibers and the arrangement of reinforcing bars. The behavior of UHPC box girder BF2 composed of 1% volume fraction of steel fibers and longitudinal reinforcing bars in web and upper flange with stirrup showed the similar ductile behavior with the girder BF1 composed of 2% volume fraction without stirrup in elastic stress region. But BF1 had the better stiffness and showed the more ductile behavior in inelastic stress region. Segmental interfaces of UHPC box girder have not any crack and slide until the final flexural collapse load.

  • A series of experimental work is carried out with the aim to understand the flexural performance of laminated glass (LG) beams using polyvinyl butyral (PVB) and Ionoplast interlayers subjected to short term duration loads in the circumstance of elevated temperature. The study is based on a total of 42 laboratory tests conducted in ambient temperature ranging from $25^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$. The load duration is kept within 20 seconds. Through the tests, load-stress and load-deflection curves of the LG are established; appropriate analytical models for the LG are indentified; the effective thicknesses as well as the shear transfer coefficients of the LG are semi-empirically determined. The test results show that within the studied temperature range the bending stresses and deflections at mid-span of the LG develop linearly with respect to the applied loads. From $25^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$ the flexural behavior of the PVB LG is found constantly between that of monolithic glass and layered glass having the same nominal thickness; the flexural behavior of the Ionoplast LG is equivalent to monolithic glass of the same nominal thickness until the temperature elevates up to $50^{\circ}C$. The test results reveal that in calculating the effective thicknesses of the PVB and Ionoplast LG, neglecting the shear capacities of the interlayers is uneconomic even when the ambient temperature is as high as $80^{\circ}C$. In the particular case of this study, the shear transfer coefficient of the PVB interlayer is found in a range from 0.62 to 0.14 while that of the Ionoplast interlayer is found in a range from 1.00 to 0.56 when the ambient temperature varies from $25^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$.

  • Polyester composites play a vital role in civil engineering applications, especially in bridge and car park structures. Therefore, the addition of waste silica-based fillers will both improve the mechanical and durability performance of composites and produce an environmentally friendly material. In this study, the mechanical performance of polyester composites was investigated experimentally and numerically by adding micro and nano-sized silica-based fillers, marble powder, silica fume and nano-silica. 24 cubes for the compression test and 18 prisms for the flexural test were produced in six different groups containing 30% marble powder, 5% silica fume and 1% nano-silica by weight. SEM/EDS testing was used to investigate the distribution of filler particles in the matrix. Experimentally collected results were used to validate tests in the Abaqus software. Additionally, the Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) was used to estimate the fracture process for the flexural test. The results show that the added silica fume, marble powder and nano silica improves the compressive strength of polyester composites by 32-38% and the flexural tensile strength by 10-60% compared to pure polyester composite. The numerically obtained results matched well with the experimental data, demonstrating the accuracy and feasibility of the calibrated finite element model.

  • There is a possibility of poor-state concrete filling condition due to segregation and interlocking of aggregate and paste when a high performance concrete is used at reinforced concrete structure without compaction. This study was conducted to evaluate the flexural behavior of high performance concrete beams with design parameters such as c, t and different concrete filling conditions. Different concrete filling conditions were intentionally made such that the first type specimen was soundly cast to obtain the perfect concrete filling condition. Second type was cast in such a way that up to the longitudinal tensile reinforcement from the top, good concrete was filled while poor concrete was poured for the bottom part to simulate the poor strength, workability and unsatisfactory compaction. Third type was cast in such a was that up to the neutral axis of the beam section from the top, good concrete was filled while so did for the bottom part as the second type. The test results were analyzed in terms of load-displacement response, failure pattern, crack width and crack spacing. The test results indicate that have no effect of concrete filling conditions on the yielding strength of structures. But, have a grate influence on the stiffness and ductility of structures.
