This paper proposes an Extended and Adaptive Inverse Perspective Mapping (EA-IPM) model that can obtain an accurate bird's-eye view (BEV) from the forward-looking monocular camera on the sidewalk with various curves. While Inverse Perspective Mapping (IPM) is a good way to obtain ground information, conventional methods assume a fixed relationship between the camera and the ground. Due to the nature of the driving environment of the mobile robot, there are more walking environments with frequent motion changes than flat roads, which have a fatal effect on IPM results. Therefore, we have developed an extended IPM process to be applicable in IPM on sidewalks by adding a formula for complementary Y-derive processes and roll motions to the existing adaptive IPM model that is robust to pitch motions. To convince the performance of the proposed method, we evaluated our results on both synthetic and real road and sidewalk datasets.

An efficient quantization and encoding of BTC (Block Truncation Coding) parameters {($Y_{\alpha},\;Y_{\beta}),\;P_{{\beta}/{\beta}}$} are investigated, In our algorithm 4${\times}$4 blocks are classified into flat or edge block. While edge block is represented by two approximation level $Y_{\alpha},\;Y_{\beta}$ with label plane $P_{{\beta}/{\beta}}$, flat block is represented by single approximation level Y. The approximation levels Y, $Y_{\alpha}$ and $Y_{\beta}$ are encoded by predictive quatization specially designed, and the label plane $P_{{\beta}/{\beta}}$ is tried to be encoded using stored 32 reference plantes. The performance of the proposed scheme has appeared comparable to much more complex transform coding in terms of SNR, although it requires more study on the representation of small slope in background.
The progress in flat panel displays over the last two decades has been astonishing. In just 20 years, the LCD-TV grew up from a 2-inch curiosity, to an industry that will sell about 120 million flat panel TV's this year, with viewing area up to 4000 times larger. That success is based on continuous innovation, especially in manufacturing processes. For the next decade to bring another doubling of the business, progress will need to continue in four major areas: Human factors, ecological impact, visual quality, and of course continued drive towards affordability. This talk will detail the technology advances that can allow this industry to meet those challenges. Human factors. Today, we adapt our lifestyle to our technology. People organize their offices, and their homes, around displays. We pass around mobile phones to share images, rather than experiencing them as a group. Billions of newspapers continue to be sold daily. Advances in flexible displays can lead to large portable displays. "New era projection" includes the handheld Pico Projectors that are already on the market, and will ultimately appear integrated in mobile phones the same way cameras do today. "Eco" impact. Today TV's are one of the top energy consumers in a U.S. home, and the fastest growing. Watching a large flat panel TV can cost twice as much as running a large refrigerator. With today's concern about energy consumption, regulations are starting to emerge worldwide to limit TV electrical use. Fortunately, good solutions exist in using light management films to eliminate bulbs, saving power without increasing cost. Going forward, LED backlights will drive another step downward. OLED displays might be the ultimate solution. Visual quality. The color of an LCD-TV is still often considered inferior to a far less expensive CRT. And almost all displays suffer from representing a three-dimensional world on a two dimensional surface. The technology to improve color is available today, and will likely move from premium sets into the mainstream as costs come down. 3D is now arriving in movie theaters worldwide, and that will drive up the demand for similar realistic images in home theaters. And the technology is emerging today for 3D representation to move beyond specialized applications into everyday use, on screens large and small. Affordability. The world takes cost-down miracles for granted in consumer electronics. Each of these other advances will be balanced with a drive for affordability, especially as the market grows in emerging countries. The other three challenges must be met without increasing cost. Putting this all together, the next few years will emphasize "eco friendly" designs, and enhanced images such as 3D. By 2013 we will start to see serious penetration by emissive technologies (OLED, high efficiency plasma, or other), with the "ultimate display" likely not in the market for a decade. Lots of opportunities for innovation remain ahead of us.

In contemporary architectural practice, flat sections and plan drawings are no longer a primary means of representation and communication with participants. A typical building design has an ornamental exterior wall system and a roof system that should have water-proof quality and drainage function. By comparison, distinction between exterior wall and roof are unclear in freeform buildings, and they are integrated into a concept of a building envelope. This study is to propose 3D coordinate control technology for freeform structure by CNC curved tube method in order to develop a BIM-based envelope design and construction method for freeform building. Because a much wider freeform building construction can be achieved with correct 3D data and easy-to-implement in construction field, the proposed 3D coordinate control technology is highly recommended for practical use instead of the conventional CAD system.

A new three-node triangular shell element based on higher order zig-zag theory is developed for laminated composite shells with multiple delaminations. The present higher order zig-zag shell theory is described in a general curvilinear coordinate system and in general tensor notation. All the complicated curvatures of surface including twisting curvatures can be described in an exact manner in the present shell element because this element is based on geometrically exact surface representation. The displacement field of the proposed finite element includes slope of deflection. which requires continuity between element interfaces. Thus the nonconforming shape function of Specht's three-node triangular plate bending element is employed to interpolate out-of-plane displacement. The present element passes the bending and twisting patch tests in flat surface configurations. The developed element is evaluated through the buckling problems of composite cylindrical shells with multiple delaminations. Through the numerical examples it is demonstrated that the proposed shell element is efficient because it has minimal degrees of freedom per node. The accuracy of the present element is demonstrated in the prediction of buckling loads and buckling modes of shells with multiple delaminations. The present shell element should serve as a powerful tool in the prediction of buckling loads and modes of multi-layered thick laminated shell structures with arbitrary-shaped multiple delaminations.

This paper describes the test carried out on an experimental study of fuselage drag and stability characteristics of a helicopter configuration and the test techniques developed for the testing and the lessons learned in the Agency for Defense Development Low Speed Wind Tunnel(ADD-LSWT). The main objective of this test is to determine the drag and stability characteristics of helicopter configurations according to the various configuration changes. The fuselage model with a highly modular structure is a representation of 1:8 scale of the external contour of the conceptual design helicopter configuration with rotating main rotor hub including blade stubs capable of rotating up to 500 rpm. The test results are compared with the available similar data and fair to good agreement is obtained.

This paper presents how to approximate an optimal shape of roll bending process in the fabrication of a curved shell plate. The roll bending process usually makes the cylindrical or conic shape from an initial flat plate. It means that the final shape is developable or its surface representation has zero Gaussian curvature. The fabrication shape is important in order to find process parameters of roil bending. An optimal concept is used to determine the developable fabrication shape which is in the closest proximity to the design surface or the given shell plate and is subject to developability. The results and the efficiency of this algorithm are evaluated by applying to some shell plates. Furthermore, the fabrication shape will be fundamental information for other process parameters of roll bending such as the vertical displacement of the center roller and the rolling directions.
The liquid crystal(LC) display is the most promising technology of the flat panel displays covering all applications from small mobile to large television applications. To understand the operating principles and improve the performances of the various LC displays, one should grasp the anisotropic nature of the LC and the propagation of light in the anisotropic media. Basic formulas governing the distribution of the LC molecules, directly related to the electro-optic effects of the LC devices, are described in view of the macroscopic interaction. Based on the matrix representation, the polarization analysis for the LC devices is also presented.
If virtual reality is well known through the medias, it seems that a few visual concepts are clearly related to VR. We try to think about it and introduce to a philosophy of VR techniques. So, from techniques and media techno-powers promotional campaigns, we aim to areal technology, it means an objective reflection on the VR techniques. To do so, we study the representations of VR in films. And we conclude that a negative image is the most common representation, related, often, to an Orwellian vision of the future world. In the second part, we study some VR films, and especially some made by famous film directors (Iñárritu, Bigelow). 'Head-turn' and 'Walk-around' films are commented to check their limits. Finally, we consider that for the moment, VR remains only a new space to screen films (into VR platforms connected to the Internet).
