  • The flow rate analysis for sanitary fixtures has been studied to determine the water supply piping system and size. The study has been carried out to analyze for a various water supply pressure and piping size theoretically. Also, the study has been carried out to analyze for a various water supply piping system experimentally. The water supply pressure is varied from 0.01MPa to 0.07MPa, and the piping size is varied from 6mm to 15mm. The water supply piping systems are one-to-one, all-loop-type, and bathroom-loop-type water supply piping system. The results indicate that the piping size is able to supply water fully in case of smaller than 15mm if the water supply pressure keep an necessary minimum pressure. And the gap of flow rate is very little for the various water supply piping systems.

  • This study examines the influence of control algorithms on dimming performance to determine appropriate control setting when direct/indirect lighting is controlled by a daylight dimming system. Computer simulation were performed for a small office with double skin envelope under various daylight conditions. A retractable fabric shading and Venetian blind were applied for internal and external envelopes under three CIE standard sky conditions. Unshielded and partially-shielded photosensors were used, and three control algorithms were applied for the sensors. In general, dimming level was too excessive due to the direct impact of light from lighting fixture to the photosensor. Providing insufficient lighting output, the unshielded photosensor completely failed to secure required illuminance under any daylight condition. When a partially-shielded photosensor was applied under clear sky, three setting points functioned effectively. Less sensitivity for the partially-shielded photosensor was effective to control the dimming system optimally with reasonable energy saving. However, the daylight dimming control system for direct/indirect lighting does not appear to be energy effective when photosensors without enough shielded area is installed on ceiling where light from fixtures reaches directly.

  • The paper proposes a stiffness measurement device composed of a measurement part including six indenters and a fixing part including four fixtures. The device is able to make simultaneously measurements of the stiffness of human arm. The six indenters make use of both position and force control schemes sequentially whenever needed. In addition, the loadcells and the digital encoders are attached to the indenters and electric motors, respectively, so that the data can be provided in real time. On the end of the indenter, two-axis potentiometer is attached in order to measure the angle difference between the applied force axis and the axis normal to the skin of human arm, and to convert the force measured on the loadcell into the actual applied force to skin. For this purpose, the mapping between the voltage output and the angle of potentiometer was obtained by fitting it for each axis. Ultimately, the measurement device was able to measure the stiffnesses of six regions of human arm.

  • Purpose. Implant mechanical complications, including screw loosening, can influence dental implant success. It has been shown that torque values are affected by contamination occurred in implant-abutment (I/A) interface. This study aimed to examine the effects of blood, saliva, fluoride and chlorhexidine contamination on reverse torque values (RTVs) of abutment screws in oral conditions. Materials and Methods. 50 fixtures were mounted into the stainless-steel holders and divided into five groups (n = 10). Except control group (NC), fixture screw holes in other groups were contaminated with chlorhexidine (CG), saliva (SG), blood (BG), or fluoride (FG). Abutment screws were tightened with a digital torque meter. I/A assemblies were subjected to thermocycling and cyclic loading. The mean RTVs were recorded and data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Tukey test. Results. Except for specimens in SG (20.56 ± 1.33), other specimens in BG (21.11 ± 1.54), CG (22.89 ± 1.1) and FG (24.00 ± 1.12) displayed significantly higher RTVs compared to NC (19.00 ± 1.87). The highest RTVs were detected in CG and FG. Conclusion. The obtained data robustly suggest that RTVs were significantly affected by fluid contaminations. Specimens in FG and CG displayed the highest RTVs. Therefore, clinicians should have enough knowledge about probable contaminations in I/A interface in order to manage them during clinical procedure and to inform patients about using oral care products.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the factors that may affect implant fixture fractures. Methods: Patients who experienced implant fixture removal at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from 2007 to 2015 due to implant fixture fracture were included. Implant/crown ratio, time of implant fracture, clinical symptoms before implant fracture, treatment of fractured implants, and the success and survival rate of the replaced implants were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Thirteen implants were fractured in 12 patients. Patient mean age at the time of fracture was 59.3 years. Of the 13 implants, 7 implants were placed at our hospital, and 6 were placed at a local clinic. The mean crown/implant ratio was 0.83:1. The clinical symptoms before fracture were screw loosening in five implants, marginal bone loss in five implants, and the presence of peri-implant diseases in five implants. All the fractured implants were removed, and 12 out of the 13 sites were re-implanted. Parafunctions were observed in two patients: one with bruxism and one with attrition due to a strong chewing habit. Conclusions: Several clinical symptoms before the fracture of an implant can predict implant fixture failure. Therefore, if these clinical symptoms are observed, appropriate treatments can be taken before more serious complications result.

  • Double-Skin Facades (DSF) on tall buildings are becoming increasingly common in urban environments due to their ability to provide architectural merit, passive design, acoustic control and even improved structural efficiency. This study aims to understand the effects of porous DSF on the aerodynamic characteristics of tall buildings using wind tunnel tests. High Frequency Force Balance and pressure tests were performed on the CAARC standard tall building model with a variable porous DSF on the windward face. The introduction of a porous DSF did not adversely affect the overall mean forces and moments experienced by the building, with few differences compared to the standard tall building model. There was also minimal variation between the results for the three porosities tested: 50%, 65% and 80%. The presence of a full-height porous DSF was shown to effectively reduce the mean and fluctuating wind pressure on the side face of the building by about 10%, and a porous DSF over the lower half height of the building was almost as effective. This indicates that the porous DSF could be used to reduce the design load on cladding and fixtures on the side faces of tall buildings, where most damage to facades typically occurs.

  • Introduction: Auto-tooth bone graft material consists of 55% inorganic hydroxyapatite (HA) and 45% organic substances. Inorganic HA possesses properties of bone in terms of the combining and dissociating of calcium and phosphate. The organic substances include bone morphogenetic protein and proteins which have osteoinduction capacity, as well as the type I collagen identical to that found in alveolar bone. Auto-tooth bone graft material is useful as it supports excellent bone regeneration capacity and minimizes the possibility of foreign body reaction, genetic diseases and disease transmission. Materials and Methods: Implant placement combined with osteoinductive regeneration, preservation of extraction socket, maxillary sinus augmentation, and ridge augmentation using block type, powder type, and block+powder type autobone graft materialwere performed for 250 patients with alveolar bone defect and who visited the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, College of Dentistry, Dankook University from September 2009 to August 2011. Results: Clinical assessment: Among the 250 patients of auto-tooth bone graft, clinical assessment was performed for 133 cases of implant placement. The average initial stabilization of placed implants was 74 implant stability quotient (ISQ). Radiological assessment: The average loss of crestal bone in the mandible as measured 6 months on the average after the application of prosthesis load was 0.29 mm, ranging from 0 mm to 3.0 mm. Histological assessment: In the histological assessment, formation of new bone, densified lamellated bone, trabecular bones, osteoblast, and planting fixtures were investigated. Conclusion: Based on these results, we concluded that auto-tooth bone graft material should be researched further as a good bone graft material with osteoconduction and osteoinduction capacities to replace autogenous bone, which has many limitations.

  • Thanks to the shift in awareness of environmentally friendly energy and government initiatives, practical light-emitting diode(LED) lighting fixtures have emerged and are being distributed, resulting in very large energy savings. However, in actual use of LED lighting, it is possible to use it as an individual, but when using a large street light or a whole home lighting, the whole lighting system is realized due to various problems such as efficiency, stability, and reliability. Doing so has several problems. Although AC-LED has been developed recently to solve safety problems such as heat generation phenomenon of the conventional DC-LED, it also has various problems such as quality safety and reliability, which are difficult to use as outdoor lighting using existing AC Power. This happens. Accordingly, the appropriate power for AC-LED should be developed and applied, and the emergence of such LED lighting will play a role as a tool that can overcome the limitations of existing LED lighting and implement sustainable energy saving.
