Alumina-supported catalysts containing different transition metals such as Cu, Cr, Mn, Zn, Co, W were investigated for their activity in the selective oxidation of toluene. Catalytic oxidation of toluene was investigated at atmospheric pressure in a fixed bed flow reactor system over transition metals with $Al_2O_3$ catalyst. The result showed the order of catalytic activities for the complete oxidation of toluene was Mn > Cu> Cr> Co> W> Zn for 5wt.% transition $metals/Al_2O_3$. $Mn/Al_2O_3$ catalysts containing different amount of Mn were characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy for decision of loading amount of metal to alumina. 5 wt.%$Mn/Al_2O_3$ catalyst exhibits the highest catalytic activity, over which the toluene conversion was up to 90% at a temperature of $289^{\circ}C$.

Catalytic oxidation of benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) using regenerated metal oxide catalysts (ZnO-CuO, NiO, $Fe_2O_3$, ZnO, CrO) were investigated in a fixed bed flow reactor to evaluate their feasibility for the purpose of removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Four kinds of pre-treatment methods such as gas (air and hydrogen), acid aqueous solution, alkali aqueous solution and cleaning agent were used to find out the optimal regeneration conditions. The physico-chemical properties of the used and regenerated catalysts were characterized by BET and TPR (Temperature Programmed Reduction). The used catalysts showed high conversion ratio and the catalytic ability of toluene oxidation was in the order of ZnO-CuO>$Fe_2O_3$>NiO>ZnO>CrO. We found that the acid aqueous pre-treatment (0.1 N HNO$_3$) was the best way to enhance the catalytic activity of $Fe_2O_3$. In addition, air and hydrogen gas treatment were optimal for NiO and ZnO-CuO catalysts, respectively. Furthermore, the decomposition of BTX depends on the type of a catalyst and a gas molecule.
The performance of catalysts for the recombination of oxyhydrogen gas was measured and compared with the results obtained from theoretical model. The oxyhydrogen gas was generated by the electrolysis cell and recombined through the fixed bed catalytic reactor. The yield that is the ratio of water-amount produced to the water-amount consumed in the electrolysis cell was increased with the increase of KOH concentration in electrolysis cell and the applied current. The catalyst 1 showed the best performance and the yield was under 60 %. The faradic yield calculated by Faraday's law showed about 100% in maximum with catalyst 1. The production rate of water generated by the recombination was 5-40 g/day dependent on the flow rate of mixed gas. Considering the results calculated from the pseudo-homogeneous catalytic reactor model, the hot point inside the reactor was moved to the direction of outlet and the maximum temperatures were $440-480^{\circ}K$ when the gas flow rate increased. The production rate of water calculated from the theoretical model showed good agreement with experimental results below the flow rate of $0.5cm^3/sec$, but there were much differences above that flow rate.
Upgrading of pyrolysis wax oil has been conducted in a continuous fixed bed reactor at $450^{\circ}C$, 1hour, LHSV 3.5/h. The catalytic degradation using HZSM-5 catalyst are compared with the thermal degradation and also was studied with a function of experimental variables. The raw pyrolysis wax oil shows relatively high boiling point distribution ranging from around $300^{\circ}C$ to $550^{\circ}C$, which has considerably higher boiling point distribution than that of commercial diesel. The product characteristic from thermal degradation shows a similar trend with that of raw pyrolysis wax oil. This means the thermal degradation of pyrolysis wax oil at high degradation temperature is not sufficiently occurred. On the other hand, the catalytic degradation using HZSM-5 catalyst relative to the thermal degradation shows the high conversion of pyrolysis wax oil to light hydrocarbons. This liquid product shows high gasoline range fraction as around 90% fraction and considerably high aromatic fraction in liquid product. Also, in the catalytic degradation the experimental variable such as catalyst amount and reaction temperature was studied.
Simulated Moving Bed(SMB) process consists of multiple chromatographic columns, which are usually partitioned into four zones. Such a process characteristic allows a continuous binary separations those are impracticable in conventional batch chromatographic processes. Compared with batch chromatography, SMB has advantages of continuity, high purity and productivity. Various researches have been reported for the integration of reaction and recovery during process operation on the purpose of economics and effectiveness. Simulated Moving Bed Reactor(SMBR) is introduced to combine SMB as a continuous separation process and reactor. Several cases of SMBR have been reported for diverse reactions with catalytic, enzymatic and chemical reaction on ion exchange resin as main streams. With an early type of fixed bed using catalyst, SMBR has been developed as SMB using fluidized enzyme, SMB with immobilized enzyme and SMB with discrete reaction region. For simple modeling and optimization of SMBR, a method considering convection only is possible. A complex method considering axial dispersion and mass transfer resistance is needed to explain the real behavior of solutes in SMBR. By combining reaction and separation, SMBR has benefits of lower installation cost by minimizing equipment use, higher purity and yield by avoiding the equilibrium restriction in case of reversible reaction.

In hypersonic aircraft, increase of aerodynamic and engine heat lead thermal load in airframe. It could lead structural change of aircraft's component and malfunctioning. Endothermic fuels are liquid hydrocarbon fuels which absorb the heat load by undergoing endothermic reactions. In this study, we investigated the relationship between product, coke formation and catalytic properites of endothermic catalysts by using exo-tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene as a fuel in a fixed bed flow reactor similar to the actual reaction conditions.
Catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds(benzene, toluene, xylene) over transition metals/ALO-6 catalysts was investigated in a fixed bed flow reactor system at atmospheric pressure. The orders of catalytic activities for the complete oxidation of toluene were Cu>Mn>Fe>V>Mo>Co>Ni>Zn for 15% transition metals/ALO-6 catalyst system. Increasing the calcination temperature resulted in decreasing the specific surface areas of catalyst, subsequently the catalytic activity. The loading of Cu on ALO-6 had a great effect on the catalytic activity and 5% Cu/ALO-6 catalyst showed higher catalytic activity, which may be contributed to the uniformly distributed active sites. Benzene, toluene and xylene were completely oxidized to carbon dioxide over 5% Cu/ALO-6 catalyst at over $380^{\circ}C$ and 4.5 g-cat.hr./g-mole. The orders of the kinds of reactants for catalytic activity over 5% Cu/ALO-6 were toluene>xylene>benzene. As the concentration of reactant increased, the catalytic activity decreased due to self-poison of reactant.
Catalytic pyrolysis of the waste paper cup containing coffee residual (WPCCCR) was performed using a fixed bed reactor and pyrolyzer-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). Non-catalytic pyrolysis of WPCCCR produced a large amount of oil together with gas and char. The use of both HZSM-5 and HY decreased the yields of oil and increased the yield of gas due to the additional catalytic cracking. Owing to the acidic catalytic properties of HZSM-5 and HY, catalytic Py-GC/MS analysis of WPCCCR increased the selectivity to aromatic hydrocarbons in product oil. Owing to properties of HZSM-5 having a stronger acidity and medium pore size, the catalytic pyrolysis of WPCCR over HZSM-5 produced much larger amounts of aromatic hydrocarbons than that of using HY.
Partial oxidation of methane was carried out by ceria-promoted Ni-substituted hydrotalcite-derived catalysts ($Ce_xNi_3$-HTlc ; x=$0.3{\sim}1.2$) in a fixed-bed reactor. The Ce/Ni ratio of 0.3/3 in the catalyst showed the best catalytic activity but the Ce/Ni ratio became higher above 0.3/3, the catalyst became less active in short-term tests. No ceria promoted catalyst was started to decrease $CH_4$ conversion after 20 h but the Ce/Ni ratio 0.3/3 catalyst was kept its stability in long-term tests.

To prevent or reduce air pollutant from methanol fueled vehicles, methanol oxidation reaction was carried out using a heteropoly acid catalysts. Catalytic activities of catalysts have been experimented at atmospheric pressure in a fixed bed flow reactor. Catalysts were characterized by XRD, IR, thermal analysis, N $H_{3}$-TPD and GC pulse technique. Acidities of catalysts were highly affected by poly-atoms. Methanol conversion was much higher on catalyst with W than on catalyst with Mo as a poly-atoms. With the increase of copper content(X) in C $u_{x}$$H_{{3-2x}}$PMo catalyst, acidity was decreased and oxidation ability was increased. Methanol conversion and product distribution were affected by the acidity and oxidation ability of catalyst. Especially, supported PdSiW(1wt%) catalyst has a very good methanol conversion and C $O_{2}$ selectivity as high as a commertial 3-way catalyst.t.
