  • This paper proposes a corresponding bicycle fitting method through a number of clinical results and experiments, with the aim of standardizing the comprehensive bicycle fitting method with the aim of developing a system that incorporates bicycle fitting software and hardware to proceed more precisely and quickly. This bicycle fitting method can determine the value of bicycle setting for the rider through in-depth counseling, bicycle check, sophisticated body sizing and analysis, and from the bicycle adjusted to this setting, the posture and pedaling torque can be analyzed through fixed lading, which can be followed to find the most efficient setting value and optimize the bicycle to meet the needs of the rider. Such a fitting method can increase the satisfaction of bicycle riders and also be expected to prevent injury through accurate bicycle setting values. This paper can be established as a bicycle fitting technology that can be recognized even in the global market if the final bicycle fitting system is implemented as the result presented in the most concrete domestic and foreign countries.

  • In this paper, a body-worn type digital hearing aid (DHA) based on a dedicated DSP chip is developed. A fitting software running on a PC supported by the Win95 OS is also developed. The fitting protocol is based on the NAL-R procedure applied to eight frequency bands, but it is designed to support a curvilinear fitting to cope with the nonlinear perception of hearing-impaired listeners. Preliminary subjective tests regarding the speech intelligibility and perceived quality revealed that the new DHA could be of benefit to hearing aid users.

  • Tight-fitting clothing pattern reflecting the accurate information of the 3D body shape has been one of the challenges for garment industry, however, fitting problems still exist. The objectives of the paper is to develop a 2D pattern which fits tightly to the 3D human scan data for sports suits that need comfort and function for maximum performance. In this study, the user graphic interface application software for the semi-automatic garment pattern generation has been implemented using the triangle simplification scheme together with 2D projections of free-falling of 3D surface polygons keeping the original 3D surface area preservation. A typical application of the developed pattern to the functional body suits is presented and verification of the proposed method is also provided.

  • Spectroscopies are the most widely used for understanding the crystallographic, chemical, and physical aspects of materials; therefore, numerous commercial and non-commercial software have been introduced to help researchers better handling their spectroscopic data. However, not many researchers, especially early-stage ones, have a proper background knowledge on the choice of fitting functions and a technique for actual fitting, although the essence of such data analysis is peak fitting. In this regard, we present a practical guide for peak fitting for data analysis. We start with a basic-level theoretical background why and how a certain protocol for peak fitting works, followed by a step-by-step visualized demonstration how an actual fitting is performed. We expect that this contribution is sure to help many active researchers in the discipline of materials science better handle their spectroscopic data.

  • In this study, it was developed that the software could be used to estimate consolidation settlement by curve fitting method according to Terzaghi's consolidation theory on the condition of gradual incremental loading, and the method of estimating settlement caused by lateral displacement was suggested, in which the settlement was calculated from the difference between the settlement calculated with the developed software using the early part of measured data and the settlement measured for the short duration from the beginning of embankment in the field. The verification of the suggested method of estimating settlement caused by lateral displacement showed good results.

  • This paper discusses a new constitutive model called the high-rate brittle microplane (HRBM) model and also presents the details of a new software package called the Virtual Materials Laboratory (VML). The VML software package was developed to address the challenges of fitting complex material models such as the HRBM model to material property test data and to study the behavior of those models under a wide variety of stress- and strain-paths. VML employs Continuous Evolutionary Algorithms (CEA) in conjunction with gradient search methods to create automatic fitting algorithms to determine constitutive model parameters. The VML code is used to fit the new HRBM model to a well-characterized conventional strength concrete called WES5000. Finally, the ability of the new HRBM model to provide high-fidelity simulations of material property experiments is demonstrated by comparing HRBM simulations to laboratory material property data.

  • Automatic object recognition in 3D measuring data is of great interest in many application fields e.g. computer vision, reverse engineering and digital factory. In this paper we present a software tool for a fully automatic object detection and parameter estimation in unordered and noisy point clouds with a large number of data points. The software consists of three interactive modules each for model selection, point segmentation and model fitting, in which the orthogonal distance fitting (ODF) plays an important role. The ODF algorithms estimate model parameters by minimizing the square sum of the shortest distances between model feature and measurement points. The local quadric surface fitted through ODF to a randomly touched small initial patch of the point cloud provides the necessary initial information for the overall procedures of model selection, point segmentation and model fitting. The performance of the presented software tool will be demonstrated by applying to point clouds.

  • The modeling and parameter estimation of a damped one-degree-of-freedom mass-spring system is examined. This paper presents a method for estimating the system parameters (damping coefficients and natural frequency) from measured free-vibration motion of a system that is modeled to include both subcritical viscous damping and kinetic Coulomb friction. The method applies a commercially available least-squares curve-fitting software function to fit the known solution of the equations of motion to the measured response. The method was tested through numerical simulation, and it was applied to experimental data collected from a laboratory mass-spring apparatus. The mass of this apparatus translates on linear bearings, which are the primary source of light inherent damping. Results indicate that the curve-fitting method is effective and accurate for both perfect and noisy measurements from a lightly damped mass-spring system.

  • We present a B-spline fitting method based on genetic algorithm for the extraction of object contours from the complex image sequence, where objects with similar shape and intensity are adjacent each other. The proposed algorithm solves common malfitting problem of the existing B-spline fitting methods including snakes. Classical snake algorithms have not been successful in such an image sequence due to the difficulty in initialization and existence of multiple extrema. We propose a B-spline fitting method using a genetic algorithm with a new initial population generation and fitting function, that are designed to take advantage of the contour of the previous slice. The test results show that the proposed method extracts contour of individual object successfully from the complex image sequence. We validate the algorithm by false-positive/negative errors and relative amounts of agreements.
