This study aimed to identify the actual catch situation of offshore dredge gear which is newly regulated in the legislation. It's also conducted to identify the species composition, weight of the catch including the target species and incidental catches, and to provide the basic information necessary for the resource management of aquatic organisms caught by offshore dredge. During the investigation period (from September 2022 to May 2023), a total of 61 species appeared in the test operation sea of Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do and Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do, with 31 species of fishes, 11 species of malacostraca, six species of gastropoda, five species of bivalvia, three species of cephalopoda, three species of asteroidea, one species each of asteroidea and holothuroidea appeared. According to the results of the test operation conducted in September and November 2022, the non-catch season of Atrina (Servatrina) pectinata, 1,203 shellfishes were caught out of 2,979 caught in number, showing a bycatch rate of 59.6%, and by weight, 157.9 kg of shellfish was caught out of the total catch of 448.4 kg, showing a bycatch rate of 64.8%. On the other hand, in February and May 2023, the catch season for Atrina (Servatrina) pectinata, 3,692 fishsells were caught out of the 4,232 catches in total, showing a bycatch rate of 12.8%, and by weight, 1,185.0 kg of shellfish was caught out of the total catch of 1,293.2 kg, showing an 8.3% bycatch rate.
The results of flow feature around two circular cylinders in various arrangements are carried out using two-dimensional simulation at Reynolds number of 200. In this work, time-averaged fluid force acting on the upstream and downstream cylinders were calculated for staggered angle ${\alpha}=0{\sim}90^{\circ}$ in the range of L/D = 1.1~5, where ${\alpha}$ is the angle between the free-stream flow and the line connecting the centers of the cylinders, L is centre-to-centre distance and D is cylinder diameter. The dependence of magnitudes and trends of fluid force coefficient on the spacing ratio L/D and ${\alpha}$ are discussed. In all arrangements of two cylinders, tandem arrangement (${\alpha}=0^{\circ}$) is the case produced a minimum drag coefficient for downstream cylinder. Moreover, the locations of separation and stagnation points or pressure coefficient on surface of the cylinder were examined.
The changes in structure and abundance of taxon or species groups in the East Sea ecosystem were compared between pre- and post-Climatic Regime Shift (CRS) occurred in the mid 1970s using an ECOPATH model. Although the East Sea ecosystem consisted of primary producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers and terminal consumers most species groups were classified as secondary consumers. The mean trophic level between pre- and post-CRS increased from 3.09 during the pre-CRS period to 3.28 during the post-CRS period. Total biomass of the species groups in the East Sea ecosystem increased by $9\%$ due to the CRS, and total catch increased by $48\%.$ The most significant differences between pre- and post-CRS models occurred at the mid/high trophic levels occupied by fishes and cephalopods. Relative contribution of the different species groups to the total energy flow was calculated for the trophic level III. As a result, the status by the dominant species in the East Sea ecosystem shifted from cephalopods to walleye pollock due to the CRS. Relative contribution of 5 species, which were commercially important, such as Pacific saury, Pacific sardine, filefish, walleye pollock and sandfish in trophic level III, were also changed due to the CRS. Finally, the CRS turned out to cause large variations in biomass and catch of fisheries resources as well as the status and role of the major species.
Two feeding trials were conducted to evaluate the effects of experimental extruded pellets (EEPs) and commercial EPs (CEPs) on Far Eastern catfish $Silurus$$asotus$ in pilot- (experiment I) and commercial-scale (experiment II) tanks. Four diets were prepared: three EEPs (EEP1, EEP2 and EEP3) that contained different amounts of tuna fish meal, soybean meal, and squid liver oil, and one CEP diet. In experiment I, three replicate groups of juveniles were fed one of the four EPs in pilot-scale tanks for 19 weeks. The weight gains (WGs) of fish fed EEP1 and CEP were significantly higher than those of fish fed EEP2 or EEP3. The highest feed efficiency (FE) was observed in fish fed the CEP diet ($P$<0.05), and the FE of fish fed EEP1 and EEP3 were significantly higher than that with EEP2 ($P$<0.05). In experiment II, juveniles were fed one of four EPs in commercial-scale tanks for 19 weeks. WG and FE values of fish fed EEP1 and CEP were higher than those of fish fed EEP2 and EEP3. The results of this study indicate that the dietary formulation used in EEP1 could be used as a practical feed for Far Eastern catfish.
Forests render both a home and a livelihood for people living in and around them. To reconcile the need of local communities with conservation, the Nishorgo Support Project (NSP or Nishorgo) is supporting co-management in five protected areas of Bangladesh, including Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary. The main focus of this study is to assess the effectiveness of alternate income generating activities (AIGAs) which is provided by the Nishorgo Support Project. It is a tool for reducing dependence on forest resources by people living in and around Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary and also play effective role in forest conservation. This study compares the socioeconomic condition (income, living style etc.) and forest dependency before and after implementation of co-management activities in Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary. A total of 11 villages (sampling intensity was 31%) namely Kalibari, Mongoliabari, Chokidarbari, Chonbari, kalenga, Krishnochura, Hatimara, Himalia, Rashidpur, Goramchori and Horinmara were studied. We surveyed 272 households in these villages (Incase of households survey, sampling intensity was 100%). Data analysis shows that the major income generating livelihood activities were agro farming (30%), followed by fuelwood collection (22.50%), nursery raising (12.5%), cattle rearing (10%), fisheries (7.50%) and others. Study also reveals that after being implementation of the co-management activities the average income levels of the studied villages have rises on 578 Tk/households (1US$ = 70 Taka, Taka means Bangladeshi currency). Further more, many of the illegal loggers became forest protector, which make their life more secured. It was also found that peoples of the study villages are now actively engaging in forest management activities and it is the only hope for conservation and restoration of forest resources not only in Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary but also in other protected area's of our country.
This acoustic experiment noted that fish species in Chilam-Gijang marine ranching area were more densely distributed in the pelagic zone during nighttime than daytime. In each season, the gill nets caught 15 different fish species and the estimated average target strengths were -44.0 dB and -44.4 dB for autumn and winter surveys, respectively. The estimated autumn fish biomass were 7.7 tons and 26.0 tons during daytime and nighttime, respectively. Winter biomass was 2.27 tons and 30.97 tons during daytime and nighttime, respectively. Different fish species form schools that exhibit different movements and behaviors, and thereby occupy varying water layers. These results explained the estimated fish biomass, and variation with seasons and time of the surveys around artificial reefs in Chilam Bay, Korea.
또한, 연도별 $F_{0.1}$와 $F_{MAX}$를 추정해 본 결과, 2004년과 2005년에 비해 2006년에 추정된 $F_{0.1}$(0.427/year)과 $F_{MAX}$(0.804/year) 모두 현재의 F(1.088/year) 보다 낮게 나타났다.
