As seafood processing by-products, enormous seafood processing waste waters (SPWWs) are produced at most seafood processing plants, but management of these waste waters are becoming great burden at small capacity processing plant. Hence, almost of them have been discarded without suitable application methods. And these SPWWS might causes of marine environmental pollution and waste in potential food resources. (omitted)
The measurement of morphological features is essential in aquaculture, fish industry and the management of fishery resources. The measurement of fish requires a large investment of manpower and time. To save time and labor for fish measurement, automated and reliable measurement methods have been developed. Automation was achieved by applying computer vision and machine learning techniques. Recently, machine learning methods based on deep learning have been used for most automatic fish measurement studies. Here, we review the current status of automatic fish measurement with traditional computer vision methods and deep learning-based methods.
The purpose of this study was to conduct a comparative study between Korea and the United States to examine anglers' motivations, consumptive orientation, and the relationship between these two concepts. The following two research questions were explored: (1) whether there are significant differences in anglers' motivations and consumptive orientation between Korea and the United States; and (2) what differences exist in the effects of anglers' motivations on consumptive orientation between these two countries. The main research results are as follows. First, Korean anglers showed a higher level of consumptive orientation than American anglers. Second, a positive relationship between activity-general motivation and consumptive orientation was reported for Korean anglers while the relationship was opposite for American anglers. Study results imply that national angler surveys as well as public education and outreach programs are necessary to help anglers engage in sustainable fishing behaviors for effective fishery resources management.
Two caridean shrimps, Eualus biunguis (Rathbun, 1902) and Argis toyamaensis (Yokoya, 1933), collected from the Korean continental slope of the East Sea at depths of 850-870 m are reported as new to the Korean caridean fauna with brief descriptions and illustrations. A hippolytid shrimp, E. biunguis, is distinguished from the congeners by the minute che1alike appearance of dactyli of the last three pereopods and the large pyriform eye. A crangonid shrimp, A. toyamaensis, differs from the Korean species of the genus in having the posterior acute spines of submedian carinae on the sixth abdominal somite.
Due to the recent increase in greenhouse gases in atmosphere, world climate is rapidly changing and in turn, the earth ecosystem responds upon the climate changes. Comparing the ecosystem in the past, the present shapes of ecosystem is the result of the serious modification. Fishery resources in marine ecosystem, which usually occupy the upper trophic level, are also inevitable from such changes, because they always react to the natural environmental conditions. The northwestern Pacific is the most productive ocean in the world producing about 30% of world catch. From time to time, however, it has been notified that abundance, distribution and species composition of major fish species were altered by climate events. Furthermore, primary productivity of the ocean is not stable under the changing environments, so that carrying capacity of the ocean varies from one climate regime to another. Major climate events such as global warming, atmospheric circulation pattern, climate regime shift in the North Pacific, and El Nino event in the Pacific tropical waters were introduced in relation to fisheries aspects. The current status and future projection of fishery production was investigated, especially in the North Pacific including Korean waters. This new paradigm, ecosystem response to environmental variability, has become the main theme in marine ecology and fishery science, and the GLOBEC-type researches might provide a solution far cause-effect mechanism as well as prediction capability. Ecosystem management principles for multi-species should be adopted for better understanding and management of ecosystem.

A model experiment using circulation water channel was carried out to investigate the dynamic characteristics of bottom trawl net which can be used in sea mount of North Pacific. Hydrodynamic resistance and shape variation according to the flow velocity and angle of hand rope transformation for net were measured, and experimental value was analyzed as the value of full-scale bottom trawl net. The results summarized are as follows; At the $30^{\circ}$ of angle of hand rope to net, hydrodynamic resistance varied from 0.5kgf to 2.68kgf as the flow velocity increased between 0.31m/s and 0.92m/s, and formula of hydrodynamic resistance for the model net was $F_m=3.04\;{\cdot}\;{\upsilon}^{1.53}$. At the fixed angle of hand rope, Net height was low and Net width was high according to the increase of flow velocity, and in addition, vertical opening was low and Net width was high by the increase of angle of hand rope at the fixed flow velocity. At the $30^{\circ}$ of angle of hand rope to net, net opening area was $0.214m^2$ as flow velocity was 0.61m/s, and formula of net opening area for the model net was $S_m=-0.22{\upsilon}+0.35$. At the $30^{\circ}$ of angle of hand rope to net, catch efficiency seemed to be highest as $0.319m^3/s$ of filtering volume at the 0.76m/s(51kt's) of flow velocity. Shape variation of net showed the gradual laminar transform for the variation of flow velocity but there needed some improvements due to the occurrence of shortening at the ahead of wing net.

Knowledge on the seaweeds of eastern Sorsogon in the Philippines is uneven. Not only is eastern Sorsogon among the areas of high seaweed diversity but locals there have interacted with seaweeds for ages. Despite seaweeds' assumed importance to Sorsoganon, ethnobotanical records are missing. In this study, we documented the traditional knowledge on seaweed use and determined the rate of knowledge transmission among the locals of eastern Sorsogon. Vernacular names and modes of preparation were given of the 12 identified species bearing culinary and medicinal importance. Ten species were eaten while three were used therapeutically. Based on ethnobotanical indices, Caulerpa chemnitzia ecad turbinata and Gelidiella acerosa were the most important seaweeds. The least cited was Caulerpa racemosa. Our study demonstrated that most of the seaweed resources in eastern Sorsogon remain largely untapped, as the identified ethnotaxa were only about 5% of the total seaweed species diversity reported for the area. The seaweed knowledge in eastern Sorsogon appeared to be homogenous across age groups with primary sources of knowledge biased towards female relatives (mothers and grandmothers) and to children as inheritors. Cessation of seaweed knowledge may come at a potential cost, as a significant fraction of the population did not transmit their knowledge to others. Our study furthered the interest in providing sophisticated resource management recommendations that consider the relationships of traditional and scientific knowledge of seaweed selection and use in eastern Sorsogon and beyond.
The effect of red tide on the marine ecological system is so severe that many researches on the diverse subjects related to it have been conducted. Notwithstanding the enormous efforts and inputs the results of the past researches show no clear ways to deal with the HAB problems. As many researches are being conducted, the efficient and appropriate research project management systems as one of the critical factors for successful research are also needed as well as the fund and the capabilities of the researchers. It is assumed that the development of the evaluation and management systems for red tide research projects is so important and critical to enhance the researches and to utilize efficiently the physical and human resources for research. In this respect this study aims to present the evaluation and management scheme for the red tide researches that can not only decide the priority of the research subjects and tell the desirable research directions, but also support to develop the useful managerial policies and guidelines for the policy maker. The main subjects dealt with in this study are as follows : the characteristics of the HAB researches, the basic attributes and criterion of the research evaluation systems, the structure and design of the evaluation systems, and the development of the managerial policies by the type of the evaluation system. The conceptual scheme developed in this study is expected to be applied to the related areas and can suggest to the policy makers so many implications for identifying and setting the proper policy objects and management techniques. This study has a couple of weak points. It suggests only the conceptual scheme but not the applications so that the researches focusing on the applications in practical perspectives are needed to follow.
To develop a sustainable management model for oyster farming in Pukman Bay, Korea, we estimated the carrying capacity for oyster farming using food availability data. Optimal culture densities were calculated to be 124-133 individuals per unit flux area ($m^2$) and 310-330 individuals per string. The present annual production is approximately 1,038 tons/year, which is 87% of the estimated maximum yield of 1,193 tons/year. Therefore, considering annual fluctuations and a critical buffer to reduce ecological impacts, the current level is within optimal conditions. During periods of increased water temperature, energy demand was largely met by high primary production. The food supply significantly decreased as the harvest season approached, and 10 out of 21 oyster farms had a deficient food supply for at least 1 month. Therefore, these farms (39% of the farms within the bay) exceeded optimal densities.
Fish eggs and larvae were collected in July and November of 2013 and January and May of 2014 to determine seasonal variation in the species composition of ichtyoplankton. Samples were classified based on morphological characteristics. Fish eggs were identified as belonging to five taxa; the most dominant species of fish eggs was Engraulis japonicus (62.05%) followed by Sardinops melanostictus (21.02%) and Leiognathus nuchalis (13.71%). These three species accounted for 96.8% of the total number of fish eggs collected. Larvae of 17 species in six families, and six orders were collected. The most dominant species of fish larvae was E. japonicus (51.79%), followed by L. nuchalis (12.59%) and Omobranchus elegans (12.08%). These three species accounted for 76.46% of the total number of larvae collected. Jinhae Bay was identified as a major spawning and nursery ground for fish species inhabiting in the south coast of Korea, such as E. japonicus, L. nuchalis, S. melanostictus, and Omobranchus elegans. Therefore, management of marine fish resources in the South Sea should necessarily include the ecological management of Jinhae Bay.
