An infinite dam with compound Poisson inputs and a state-dependent release rate is considered. We build the Kolmogorov's backward differential equation and solve it to obtain the Laplace transforms of the first exit times for this dam.
An experimental study is conducted to investigate flow characteristics on a small axial-type turbine which is applied as the rotating part of air tools. It operates in a partial admission due to consumption restriction of the high pressure air. In this operating condition, it is necessary to understand flow characteristics for obtaining the high specific output power. Tested turbine consists of two stages and the mean radius of flow passage is less than 10mm. A 6 bar pressure air is used to operate the turbine. The experimental results show that flow angles depend on the measuring location along the circumferential direction, but its discrepancy is alleviated along the axial direction. Absolute flow velocities show three times difference according to the measuring location at the exit of the first rotor due to the partial admission, but they show similar value at the exit of the second rotor by the velocity diffusion. From the measured flow angles and velocities, a ratio of output power obtained by the first and second rotor is estimated. It shows that the output power obtained by the second rotor is about $11\%$ to that by the first rotor at 60,000 RPM. It is effective therefore to improve the first rotor for increasing the turbine output power.
In this paper, a fundamental study on the characteristics of traffic accidents according to the alignment and traffic conditions on the ramp of freeway is addressed. The macro-and-micro scope analysis of characteristics about traffic accidents on the trumpet-IC ramps is conducted depending on the entering and exit ramp types under the various conditions of traffic volume and alignment And it is turned out that the conditions of alignment. such as radius, differences of curvatures, and main road grade, and traffic volume relate to the ramp accidents of trumpet IC according to ramp types, such as direction, semi-direction, and loop. Macroscopically, AR (Accident Rate) according to trumpet IC types, A and B, is analyzed nearly equal, but Number of accidents occurred in IC type B shows about 1.5 times higher than type A. And AR of exit ramps shows three times more than entrance ramps. Microscopically, ARs for each exit-ramp type, according to the increment of traffic volume, the difference of curvatures. and the first radius, exponentially decrease respectively. But relationships between AR and the second radius or exit ramp shows inverted U-shaped. AR according to main-road grade Peaks between -1.5% and -0.5%. It is expected that the developed models not only are employed to make design of trumpet-IC ramp more cost-efficiently and safely, but also contribute to making alternatives to the reduction of traffic accidents on trumpet IC ramps under the conditions of high traffic accident rate.
The purpose of this study is to understand why female labor force participation rates decline in early times after their marriage. Data were derived from the 4th(2001) to 9th(2006) Korea Labor & Income Panel Study. 194 Korean married women in twenties and thirties who had a job before marriage were analyzed. Survival analysis was used to explore the first labor force exit of married women longitudinally. The major findings are as follows. First, nearly half of them went away from labor market in the first 3 years after marriage. Second, child birth was the most significant factor in predicting women's labor force exit. Married women's employment discontinuity tend to be lowered after child birth, with working hour decreasing, and with the number of available family-friendly policies increasing. Married women's income encouraged them to hold on their career, though husband's income and household income were not significant. Third, married women tended to leave their job before giving birth. Women who remained in the labor market at child birth or until a year after birth were inclined to continue their job thereafter. Fourth, maternity leave and childcare leave diminished the probability of employment discontinuity. Many working wives could not use a maternity leave or childcare leave. This study shows married women usually underwent labor market exit in their newly married time. They cannot help facing conflict between the role of mother's and a worker's. Family-friendly policies could encourage working wives to rear child and continue work at the same time. The findings of this study could serve as fundamental material for further studies and would be a key to find effective solution for problematic issues on reconciling work and family.
In this study, gamma radiation detectors are created by integrating the following combinations of different YSO scintillators and PMT(photomultiplier-tubes) respectively: $3mm{\times}3mm{\times}2mm$, $3mm(Dia){\times}15mm$, $3mm(Dia){\times}20mm$, $10mm(Dia){\times}20mm$. In addition, the scintillator with a 10mm diameter was integrated with a light guide with a 2mm thickness, 10mm entry and 3mm exit, using LightTools. The constructed detector used the standard gamma ray sources $^{137}Cs$(662keV) to analyze the spectral characteristics of gamma rays. The results indicate that at 662keV, the energy resolutions were 14.46%, 21.10%, and 10.71% for the first three combinations respectively. The best results were recorded for the $10mm(Dia){\times}20mm$ detector with light guide, which had an energy resolution of 7.48%.

This paper presents two-step simulations to calculate the influence of blast-induced pressures on explosion-protection valves installed at the boundary between a protection facility and a tunnel entering the facility. The first step is to calculate the respective overpressure on the entrance and exit of the tunnel when an explosion occurs near the tunnel entrance and exit to approach the protection facility. Secondly, the blast pressures on the explosion-protection valves mounted to walls located near the tunnel inside approaching the protection facility are analyzed with a 0.1 ms time variation using the results obtained from the first-step calculations. The following conclusions could be derived as a results: (1) The analysis of the entrance tunnel scenario, P1, leads to the maximum overpressure of 47 kPa, approximately a half of the ambient pressure, at the inner entrance due to the effect of blast barrier. For the scenario, P2, the case not blocked by the barrier, the maximum overpressure is 628 kPa, which is relatively high, namely, 5.2 times the ambient pressure. (2) It is observed that the pressure for the entrance tunnel is effectively mitigated because the initial blast pressures are partially offset from each other according to the geometry of the entrance and a portion of the pressures is discharged to the outside.

Flow characteristics of turbulent elliptic jets were experimentally investigated using a single-frame PIV system. A sharp-edged elliptic nozzle with aspect ratio(AR) of 2 was tested and the experimental results were compared with those of circular jet having the same equivalent diameter($D_e$). The Reynolds number based on the nozzle exit velocity and nozzle equivalent diameter was about $1{\times}10^4$. The spreading rate along the major and minor axis are different remarkably. The jet half width along the major axis decreases at first and then increases with going downstream. But along the minor axis the jet width increases steadily. The elliptic jet of AR=2 has one switching points at $X/D_e=2$ within the near field. Turbulence properties are also found to be significantly different along the major and minor axis planes.
This study has analyzed the meaning of observation time in the course of acquiring the information of subjects who observed the space of hall in subway stations to figure out the process of spatial information excluded and the features of intensive searching. The followings are the results from the analysis of searching process with the interpretation of the process for information acquirement through the interpretation of observation area and time. First, based on the general definition of observation time, the reason for analyzing the features of acquiring spatial information according to the subjects' observation time has been established. The feature of decreased analysis data reflected that of observation time in the process of perceiving and recognizing spatial information, which showed that the observation was focused on the enter of the space during the time spent in the process of observing the space and the spent time with considerable exclusion of bottom end (in particular, right bottom end). Second, while the subjects were observing the space of hall in subway stations, they focused on the top of the left center and the signs on the right exit the most, which was followed by the focus on the both side horizontally and the clock on the top. Third, the analysis of consecutive observation frequency enabled the comparison of the changes to the observation concentration by area. The difference of time by area produced the data with which the change to the contents of spatial searching in the process of searching space could be known. Fourth, as the observation frequency in the area of I changed [three times -> six times -> 9 times], the observation time included in the area increased, which showed the process for the change from perception to recognition of information with the concentration of attention through visual information. It makes it possible to understand that more time was spent on the information to be acquired with the exclusion of the unnecessary information around.
Purpose : This study was to obtain the basic dosimetric data using the 10 MV X-ray for the total body irradiation. Materials and Methods : A linear accelerator photon beam is planned to be used as a radiation source for total body irradiation (TBI) in Chonnam University Hospital. The planned distance from the target to the midplane of a patient is 360cm and the maximum geometric field size is 144cm x 144cm. Polystyrene phantom sized $30{\times}30{\times}30.2cm^3$ and consisted of several sheets with various thickness, and a parallel plate ionization chamber were used to measure surface dose and percent depth dose (PDD) at 345cm SSD, and dose profiles. To evaluate whether a beam modifier is necessary for TBI, dosimetry in build up region was made first with no modifier and next with an 1cm thick acryl plate 20cm far from the polystyrene phantom surface. For a fixed sourec-chamber distance, output factors were measured for various depth. Results : As any beam modifier was not on the way of radiation of 10MV X-ray, the $d_{max}$ and surface dose was 1.8cm and $61\%$, respectively, for 345cm SSD. When an 1cm thick acryl plate was put 20cm far from polystyrene phantom for the SSD, the $d_{max}$ and surface dose were 0.8cm and $94\%$, respectively. With acryl as a beam spoiler, the PDD at 10cm depth was $78.4\%$ and exit dose was a little higher than expected dose at interface of exit surface. For two-opposing fields for a 30cm phantom thick phantom, the surface dose and maximum dose relative to mid-depth dose in our experiments were $102.5\%$ and $106.3\%$, respectively. The off-axis distance of that point of $95\%$ of beam axis dose were 70cm on principal axis and 80cm on diagonal axis. Conclusion: 1. To increase surface dose for TBI by 10MV X-ray at 360cm SAD, 1cm thick acrylic spoiler was sufficient when distance from phantom surface to spoiler was 20cm. 2. At 345cm SSD, 10MV X-ray beam of full field produced a satisfiable dose uniformity for TBI within $7\%$ in the phantom of 30cm thickness by two-opposing irradiation technique. 3. The uniform dose distribution region was 67cm on principal axis of the beam and 80cm on diagonal axis from beam axis. 4. The output factors at mid-point of various thickness revealed linear relation with depth, and it could be applicable to practical TBI.
The aim of this study Is to develop a simple and fast method which computes in-vivo doses from transmission doses measured doting patient treatment using an ionization chamber. Energy fluence and the dose that reach the chamber positioned behind the patient is modified by three factors: patient attenuation, inverse square attenuation. and scattering. We adopted a straightforward empirical approach using a phantom transmission factor (PTF) which accounts for the contribution from all three factors. It was done as follows. First of all, the phantom transmission factor was measured as a simple ratio of the chamber reading measured with and without a homogeneous phantom in the radiation beam according to various field sizes($r_p$), phantom to chamber distance($d_g$) and phantom thickness($T_p$). Secondly, we used the concept of effective field to the cases with inhomogeneous phantom (patients) and irregular fields. The effective field size is calculated by finding the field size that produces the same value of PTF to that for the irregular field and/or inhomogeneous phantom. The hypothesis is that the presence of inhomogeneity and irregular field can be accommodated to a certain extent by altering the field size. Thirdly, the center dose at the prescription depth can be computed using the new TMR($r_{p,eff}$) and Sp($r_{p,eff}$) from the effective field size. After that, when TMR(d, $r_{p,eff}$) and SP($r_{p,eff}$) are acquired. the tumor dose is as follows. $$D_{center}=D_t/PTF(d_g,\;T_p){\times}(\frac{SCD}{SAD})^2{\times}BSF(r_o){\times}S_p(r_{p,eff}){\times}TMR(d,\;r_{p,eff})$$ To make certain the accuracy of this method, we checked the accuracy for the following four cases; in cases of regular or irregular field size, inhomogeneous material included, any errors made and clinical situation. The errors were within 2.3% for regular field size, 3.0% irregular field size, 2.4% when inhomogeneous material was included in the phantom, 3.8% for 6 MV when the error was made purposely, 4.7% for 10 MV and 1.8% for the measurement of a patient in clinic. It is considered that this methode can make the quality control for dose at the time of radiation therapy because it is non-invasive that makes possible to measure the doses whenever a patient is given a therapy as well as eliminates the problem for entrance or exit dose measurement.
