  • In this research, we conducted a PIV-visualization experiment to smoke control from fires by using a neighboring Jet fan at minimum distance. We also compared our experiment results with FDS numerical analysis ones. As a result of quantitative data analysis of smoke control modes against fires in tunnel, we concluded that a neighboring Jet fan should be placed at least 25 m away from its fire source in order to produce satisfactory smoke control results. Jet fan showed the best smoke-controlling performance, if placed 50 m away from its fire source. It tended to show an overspeed around the center of tunnel when it is placed more than 75 away from its fire source.

  • In this paper, a position control scheme of the ink droplet is presented for the high image quality and print speed inkjet printer. The proposed scheme estimates the impact position and compensates it by control of the fire strobe time based on the dynamic equations describing the moving trajectory of the ink droplet. Compared to the conventional fire strobe control which is based on the simple synchronization the fire strobe with the position signal of the inkjet nozzle, the proposed control scheme provides more accurate impact position control during the carrier is moving with accelerated or decelerated speed as well as constant speed. The availability of printing during the acceleration and deceleration states of the carrier moving enables the print speed up and the frame size down which means the cost down.

  • Recently, the occurrences of electrical fire have been suppressed by an earth leakage breaker(ELB), a no fuse breaker(NFB) and a fuse in case of an earth leakage, a short circuit and an over current. But it is impossible for the ELB to break the circuit in the case of the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit. Therefore, it is require to study the constructive problem of the ELB. In this paper, we have developed the auxiliary control device, electrical fire prevention control device(EFPCD), of the ELB. And we have tested the operation characteristics of the ELB according to the load(R, L) As a result of this experiment, we could prevent the electrical fire due to the spark and the overheat occurring in the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit.

  • To control the spread of surface fire in the rangelands and to check the entry of fire into forest systems from grassland patches, 26 evergreen / succulent species were selected and among them 3 shrubby species such as Berberis tintoria Lesch, Elaeagnus kologa Schlecht and Rhodomyrtus tomentosa Wt. were screened for vegetational fire breaks on the basis of leaf moisture content and some other ecological characters. The fire trail experiments indicate that crossing of fire was checked by the fire belt size of 5 ${\times}$ 1.5m for all the three species. However, due to higher fire retardant capacity, the Ire belt of R. tomentosa was effective in comparison to other two species.

  • The big issue in fire and life safety protection in atriums is that hot smoke can spread vertically via the atrium openings, and impact atrium floors remote from the fire. Three different strategies to provide fire and life safety protection for atrium space were evaluated in this study, using the FDS model. Strategy A is the atrium protection approach addressed in the Korean Building Fire Protection Code, where atria are required to be enclosed with fire shutters from the $2^{nd}$ floor to the atrium top, and the ground floor is allowed to open to the atrium; in this case, no smoke control is required. Strategy B is the atrium protection approach, with smoke control provided in accordance with NFPA 92B; in this case, no atrium floor is enclosed. Strategy C is the atrium protection approach, in which some of the upper atrium floors are enclosed (the case of the top atrium floor being enclosed is evaluated in this study), and atrium smoke control is also provided to protect the lower atrium floors.

  • Amid the growing number of high-rise complex buildings in Korea, efficient smoke prevention technology in a fire is required and as an alternative of a mechanical smoke control system in high-rise buildings, the use of a smoke control system using sandwich pressurization has been on the rise. In such a system, the appropriate pressure difference and the data for designing the air supply and exhaust flow rate are necessary to prevent the spread of smoke and offer a tenable evacuation environment. As part of such effort, this paper presents a field test process and result after testing a building where such a smoke control system using sandwich pressurization has been installed. A ventilation rate of 6 cycles per hour were applied to simulate the air exhaust flow rate on a fire floor and the air supply flow rate on the floors above and below the fire floor. As a result of the system operation, pressure difference of approximately 260 Pa between the 12th floor of a fire and the 13th floor was generated. The over pressure of the experiment has a serious effect on the evacuation or fire compartment so that it is necessary to examine the improvement.
