Strength Characteristic and Phenomenon of Heated Concrete by High Temperature (고온가열 콘크리트의 강도 특성과 현상)

  • For many years concrete has been the major building material for most construction. It is of primary importance that fire fighters or fire investigators have a full understanding of the properties of concrete so that better control of the fire scene is achieved. This, in turn, not only help to ensure a safer fire-fighting job but also a more successful fire investigation. So far as the fire scene investigation in concerned, knowledge about the thermal behaviour of concrete can help the investigators to determine the highest temperature that a particular spot of a fire scene has ever reached thereby providing data which may be of value in reconstructing the course of the fire.

Assessment of Grid Sensitivity in the FDS Field Model to Simulate the Flame Propagation of an Electric Cable Fire (케이블 화재의 화염전파 해석을 위한 FDS 모델의 격자민감도 평가)

  • The present study has been conducted to examine the effect of grid resolution on the predicted results for electric cable fire using pyrolysis model in FDS(Fire Dynamics Simulator, version 5). The grid independent test for different grid resolutions has been performed for a PE coating cable and the grid resolution is defined by the non-dimensional characteristic length of fire and mean grid size. The calculated maximum heat release rate and mean flame spread rate were almost constant for higher grid resolution of 20${\sim}$25 and the computing time for the grid resolution takes approximately 20hours to solve flame propagation with pyrolysis model. The geometrical simplification of a electric cable dose not greatly affect on the maximum heat release rate and flame spread rate and the rectangular approximation of cable shape gives acceptable result comparing with the round cable with stepwise grid.

Quantitative Fire Risk Assesment for the Subway Platform Types (지하철 승강장 형식에 따른 정량적 화재 위험성 평가)

  • Subway platform is divided into Side-platform type and Center-platform type. In this study does quantitative fire risk assesment of subway platform types in numerical analysis by using CFD model. From the result of this study, 1) All exhaust mode was low-end result it seems most fire risk at Side-platform station. 2) All exhaust mode was low-end result it seems most fire risk at Center-Platform station. 3) When comparing same type exhaust mode of Side-platform and Center-platform that last thing was visible $9.1{\sim}72.34%$ low-end fire risk. Center-platform is more opera-tive than Side-platform that reduce fire risk when that was same dimension and external environment. Designer look upon a fire characteristic of subway platform types when he make smoke control air volume and platform area design.

  • The fire event occurred in fire proof zone often causes serious electrical problems such as shorts, ground faults, or open circuits in nuclear power plants. These would be directed to the loss of safe shutdown capabilities performed by safety related systems and equipments. The fire event can treat the basic design principle that safety systems should keep their functions with redundancy and independency. In case of a multi-core cable fire, operators can not perform their mission properly and can misjudge the situation because of spurious operation, wrong indication or instrument. These would deteriorate the plant capabilities of safety shutdown and make disastrous conditions. In this paper, the characteristic of cable fire is investigated and the heat-flux evaluation for cable fire is studied. Moreover, a diagnostic methodology for degraded cable in nuclear power plants is presented.

Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Thermal Sensitivity for Fusible Alloy Type Sprinkler Head (가용합금형 스프링클러 헤드의 열감도 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The sprinkler head is a component of the sprinkler system intended to discharge water for automatic detection and extinguishment of fires. On this study, thermal characteristic values affecting the sensitivity of the fusible alloy type sprinkler head were obtained and analyzed under heated air stream condition which had constant temperature and velocity. The experiment was carried out under the forced convection condition with both the conductive heat loss considered and neglected. The thermal characteristic values of the sprinkler head were obtained in accordance with the material and shape of the heat responsive element and the conditions of the main body.

The Real Fire Test in Bedroom for the Performance Based Fire Design (성능기반 화재안전설계를 위한 침실 공간에서의 실화재 실험)

  • For The performance based fire design of the buildings, the fire characteristic such as proceeding and scale of the fire should be figured out but, there is lack of relevant information because of different conditions and difficulties of mock-up test like type of division space, ventilation condition, etc, in buildings. Therefore, in the study, a heal release rate etc, the engineering characteristic data value on the fire is proposed by mock-up fire test for division space in buildings. The mock-up fire test is carried out in a bedroom with 2.4 (L) ${\times}$ 3.6 (W) ${\times}$ 2.4 (H) m model. Initial ignition was started from trash box and the test was carried out for 30 min. As a result of the fire test, flame was broken to outside within 7 min and 50 s after starting the test and the maximum heat release rate was measured as 3,810.6 kW at 9 min and 34 s.

  • 본 논문은 플러그 충전부 형태에 따른 트래킹 발생특성을 분석하고자 현재 국내에서 시판되고 있는 플러그 중 형태가 서로 다른 플러그들을 시료로 선정하여 충전부간 거리에 따른 트래킹 특성을 KS C IEC 60112에 의거하여 실험을 실시하였다. 또한 모형 트래킹 실험장치를 제작하여 염해환경에서의 플러그 충전부간 트래킹 특성을 관찰하였고, 플러그에 가해지는 전압은 수전설비의 변압기 결선 형태에 주로 사용되는 단상 3선식과 단상 2선식의 형태로 인가하여 결선 형태에 따른 위험성을 추가적으로 분석하였다.

  • 우리나라는 아직도 화재경계지구로 분류된 노후화된 주택 또는 시장, 밀집지역이 많이 분포하고 있으며, 이는 자연재해로 인한 화재 발생 시 매우 취약하며 이러한 특성이 도시화재가 될 가능성이 높다. 그러나 아직 우리나라에는 연구 및 대응책이 미비하며, 이에 국내 외 도시화재 특징 및 연구동향을 분석하여 도시화재에 대한 기초연구 자료로의 제시 및 향후 연구방향에 대하여 모색하고자 한다.

Experimental Study on Combustion Characteristics of Live Fire Load in a Bookstore (서점의 적재가연물의 연소특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Fire load in buildings greatly contribute to the time and scale of fire according to the type and quantity of the fire load. Because bookstores have a large quantity of fire load compared with other buildings which may lead to large scale fires, however, their heat release characteristics have been hardly investigated. In this study, to obtain the data applicable for the performance-based fire safety design of bookstores, the specimens representing stacked fire loads were heated in a furnace in compliance with the standard heating curve of ISO834-1:1999 to investigate their heat release characteristics. From the experiment result, the combustion velocity and heat release rate required for performancebased fire safety designs are obtained.
