  • Nondestructive evaluation using surface waves needs an analytical solution for the reference value to compare with experimental data. Finite element analysis is very powerful tool to simulate the wave propagation, but has some defects. It is very expensive and high time-complexity for the required high resolution. For those reasons, it is hard to implement an optimization problem in the actual situation. The developed engine in this paper can substitute for the finite element analysis of surface waves propagation, and it accomplishes the fast analysis possible to be used in optimization. Including this artificial intelligence engine, most of soft computing algorithms can be applied on the special database. The database of surface waves propagation is easily constructed with the results of finite element analysis after reducing the dimensions of data. The principal wavelet-component analysis is an efficient method to simplify the transient wave signal into some representative peaks. At the end, artificial neural network based on the database make it possible to invent the artificial intelligence engine.

  • It is important to compute the structural analysis of plate structures in structural design. In this paper, the author uses the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method (FE-TSCM) for the structural analysis of plate structures. The FE-TSCM is based on the concept of the successive transmission of the transfer stiffness coefficient method and the modeling technique of the finite element method (FEM). The algorithm for in-plane structural analysis of a rectangular plate structure is formulated by using the FE-TSCM. In order to confirm the validity of the FE-TSCM for structural analysis of plate structures, two numerical examples for the in-plane structural analysis of a plate with triangular elements and the bending structural analysis of a plate with rectangular elements are computed. The results of the FE-TSCM are compared with those of the FEM on a personal computer.

  • Preflex beam is a method of construction designed to hold the pre-compressive stresses over the concrete pier by the preflexion load. During the fabrication of the girder, welding causes residual stresses. The welding residual stresses must be relieved in order to generate the accurate compressive pre-stresses. In this study, to determine the thermal distribution characteristics on the girder by welding, both three-dimensional finite element analysis and two-dimensional finite element analysis, in a quasi-steady state, is carried out. After comparing each result between the three-dimensional analysis and the two-dimensional analysis, finite element analysis is carried out against the actual girder, and the welding thermal distribution characteristic over the preflex beam is analyzed. It is possible to provide the input data for the analysis of the welding residual stresses.

  • In this article, frequency characteristics, and sensitivity analysis of a size-dependent laminated composite cylindrical nanoshell under bi-directional thermal loading using Nonlocal Strain-stress Gradient Theory (NSGT) are presented. The governing equations of the laminated composite cylindrical nanoshell in thermal environment are developed using Hamilton's principle. The thermodynamic equations of the laminated cylindrical nanoshell are obtained using First-order Shear Deformation Theory (FSDT) and Fourier-expansion based Generalized Differential Quadrature element Method (FGDQM) is implemented to solve these equations and obtain natural frequency and critical temperature of the presented model. The novelty of the current study is to consider the effects of bi-directional temperature loading and sensitivity parameter on the critical temperature and frequency characteristics of the laminated composite nanostructure. Apart from semi-numerical solution, a finite element model was presented using the finite element package to simulate the response of the laminated cylindrical shell. The results created from finite element simulation illustrates a close agreement with the semi-numerical method results. Finally, the influences of temperature difference, ply angle, length scale and nonlocal parameters on the critical temperature, sensitivity, and frequency of the laminated composite nanostructure are investigated, in details.

  • In this paper, dynamic collapse behavior of the rectangular tube under impact loading is anlayzed using nonlinear finite element method of shell element. In case of shell element formulation using corotational element coordinates system, dynamic collapse behavior is analyzed without initial imperfection, and with initial imperfection. This paper reveals that the collapse of a rectangular tue without initial imperfection is caused by an error of transformation of the corotational coordinates system.

  • This article investigates the different numerical methods, which are widely used for purpose of simulating a fire compartment the particular numerical methods such as finite difference, finite element, control Volume, and finite analysis are discribed in order to understand basic concepts and their applications. The fire simulations using fferent methods for the different physical geometrics have been reported in many recent literatures The convergence rate, the accuracy, and the stability are no simply dependent upon the specific method, The study of popular nu-merical methods by being compared among those is therefore significant to understand the nu-merical simulation of fire compartment.

  • The cold formed light-gauge profiled steel sheeting can offer considerable shear resistance acting in the steel building frame. This paper conducted the full-scale test on the shear behavior of stressed skin diaphragm using profiled sheeting connected by the self-tapping screws. A three-dimensional finite element model that simulates the stressed skin diaphragm was developed. The sheet was modeled using thin element model while the supporting members were simulated using beam elements. Fasteners were represented in the numerical model as equivalent springs. A joint test program was conducted to characterize the properties of these springs and results were reported in this study. Finite element model of the full-scale test was analyzed by use of the ANSYS package, considering nonlinearity caused by the large deflection and slip of fasteners. The experimental data was compared with the results acquired by the EUR formulas and finite element analysis.

  • The main objective of this paper is to develop the finite element study on the nonlinear free vibration of functionally graded nanocomposite spherical shells reinforced with graphene platelets under the first-order shear deformation shell theory and von Kármán nonlinear kinematic relations. The governing equations are presented by introducing the full asymmetric nonlinear strain-displacement relations followed by the constitutive relations and energy functional. The extended Halpin-Tsai model is utilized to specify the overall Young's modulus of the nanocomposite. Then, the finite element formulation is derived and the quadrilateral 8-node shell element is implemented for finite element discretization. The nonlinear sets of dynamic equations are solved by the use of the harmonic balance technique and iterative method to find the nonlinear frequency response. Several numerical examples are represented to highlight the impact of involved factors on the large-amplitude vibration responses of nanocomposite spherical shells. One of the main findings is that for some geometrical and material parameters, the fundamental vibrational mode shape is asymmetric and the axisymmetric formulation cannot be appropriately employed to model the nonlinear dynamic behavior of nanocomposite spherical shells.

  • An elastic-plastic finite element analysis is performed to investigate detailed closure behavior of fatigue cracks and the numerical results are compared with experimental results. The finite element analysis performed under plane stress using 4-node isoparametric elements can predict fatigue crack closure behavior. The mesh of constant element size along crack surface can not predict the opening level of fatigue crack. The crack opening level for the constant mesh size increases linearly from initial crack growth. The crack opening level for variable mesh size, is almost flat after crack tip has passed the monotonic plastic zone. The prediction of crack opening level using the variable mesh size proportioning the reversed plastic zone size with the opening stress intensity factors presents a good agreement with the experimental data regardless of stress ratios.
