온도 변화에 따른 HDD 회전축계 동특성 해석 (Analysis of Dynamic Characteristics of a HDD Spindle System Supported by Ball Bearing Due to Temperature Variation)

  • This paper presents a method to investigate the characteristics of a ball bearing and the dynamics of a HDD spindle system due to temperature variation. Finite element model is developed for the rotating and stationary parts of a HDD spindle system separately to determine their thermal deformations by using ANSYS, a finite element program. Then, the relative position of the rotating part with respect to the stationary part is determined by solving the equilibrium equation of the contact force between upper and lower ball bearings. The validity of the proposed method is verified by comparing the theoretical natural frequencies of a HDD spindle system with the experimental ones before and after temperature variation. It shows that the elevated temperature results in the increase of contact angle and the decrease of bearing deformation, contact force and bearing stiffness, which result in the decrease of the natural frequencies of a HDD spindle system.

  • Applying the method calculating creep of Concrete Filled steel Tube (CFT) members based on the Elastic Continuation and Plastic Flow theory for concrete creep with the finite element method, the paper develops a new numerical method for the creep of CFT arch bridges considering effects of bending moment. It is shown that the method is feasible and reasonable through comparing the predicted stresses and deflection caused by the creep with the results obtained by the method of Gu et al. (2001) based on ACI209R model and experimental data of an actual CFT arch bridge. Furthermore, nine CFT arch bridges with different types are calculated and analyzed with and without the effects of bending moment. As a result, the bending moment has considerable influences on long-term deformations and internal forces of CFT arch bridges, especially when the section of arch rib is subjected to a large bending moment.

  • In this study, computational structural vibration analysis of helicopter search light exposing unsteady buffet load have been conducted using combined advanced numerical methods. Unsteady CFD method based on Navier-Stokes equations is used to predict viscous buffet load due to flow separation effects. Full three-dimensional finite element model is constructed in order to conduct static and structural dynamic analyses of the search light model for two different typical flight speeds. Also, the correct performance of the search light can be physically estimated to examine the actual lighting area considering the effects of structural deformations.

  • In the finite elemenet analysis of metal forming problems, the most critical input is the flow stress of workpiece. Conventionally, the flow stress of a metal at elevated temperatures is assumed to be a function of strain, strain rate and temperature, and obtained by experiment. However, if the workpiece is not continuously deformed as in mulit-pass rolling, the flow stress obtained by experiment is no longer valid because it does not consider the microstructure evolution occurring between deformations. In the present study, it was attemped that the flow stress of steel in the austenite region be obtained equations. It was applied to the prediction of flow stress variation at each stand during hot finishing rolling of steel.

  • The importance of the role of plastic spin in the rate-dependent response of materials at large deformations is the main objective of this work. After a brief presentation of a general consitutive framework for visco-rigid plasticity at large strains an isotropic/kinematic hardening and a visco-rigid plastic model are used to analyze the stress-strain response under simple shear. A clear understanding of the role of plastic spin is achieved by obtaining numerical analyzed results for different stress values in which the plastic spin consititutive parameters interrelaste with the strain rate and other more conventional model constants, Especially this paper is concerned with introducing behaviors of Al7075

  • The finite element method based on the refined beam theory is applied to the vibration problem of rotation composite box beams. The present beam model includes a number of non-classical structural effects such as transverse shear, warping deformations, geometric non-linearities. The nonlinear finite element equations of motion are obtained from Hamilton's principle. Vibration characteristics versus various parameters such as ply angle, collective pitch angle, pretwist and precone are investigated for rotation box ben and relevant conclusions are outlined.

  • A simple and straightforward method is introduced for developing continuum beam-rod model of a box-beam typed aircraft wing with composite layered skin based on "energy equivalence." The equivalent continuum structral properties are obtained from the direct comparison of the reduced stiffness and mass matrices for box-beam typed wing with those for continuum beam-rod model. The stiffness and mass matrices are all represented in terms of the continuum degrees-of freedom defined in this paper. The finite-element method. The advantage of the present continuum method is to give every continuum structural properties including all possible coupling terms which represent the couplings between different deformations. To evaluate the continuum method developed in this paper, free vibration analyses for both continuum beam-rod and box-beam are conducted. Numerical tests show that the present continuum method gives very reliable structural and dynamic properties compared to the results by the conventional finite-element analysis. analysis.

  • This paper presents a new approach to simulate fluid-solid interaction problems involving non-matching interfaces. The coupling between fluid and solid domains with dissimilar finite element meshes consisting of 4-node quadrilateral elements is achieved by using the interface element method (IEM). Conditions of compatibility between fluid and solid meshes are satisfied exactly by introducing the interface elements defined on interfacing regions. Importantly, a consistent transfer of loads through matching interface element meshes guarantees the present method to be an efficient approach of the solution strategy to fluid-solid interaction problems. An arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) description is adopted for the fluid domain, while for the solid domain an updated Lagrangian formulation is considered to accommodate finite deformations of an elastic structure. The stabilized equal order velocity-pressure elements for incompressible flows are used in the motion of fluids. Fully coupled equations are solved simultaneously in a single computational domain. Numerical results are presented for fluid-solid interaction problems involving nonmatching interfaces to demonstrate the effectiveness of the methodology.

Multifield Variational Finite Element Sectional Analysis of Composite Beams

  • A multifield variational formulation is developed for the finite element (FE) cross-sectional analysis of composite beams. The cross-sectional warping displacements and sectional stresses are considered to be the primary variables through the application of Reissner's partially mixed principle. The warping displacements are modeled using generic FE shape functions with nonlinear distribution over the beam section. A generalized Timoshenko level stiffness matrix is derived which incorporates the effects of elastic couplings, transverse shear, and Poisson's deformations. The accuracy of the present analysis is validated for the stiffness constants and elastostatic responses of composite box beams which correlate well with the experimental data and other state-of-the-art approaches.

  • This paper presents a dynamic analysis of the high-speed spindle system for vertical machining center using finite techniques. The computed natural frequencies are compared with the measured frequencies obtained from experimental modal analysis. The results show that the bending and twisting deformations of the spindle housing dominate in the lowest modes owing to low dynamic stiffness of the housing structure. The design parameters in the analysis are : (a) panel thickness of the housing (b ) height of the housing, and (c) spindle-to-column distance of the housing. Through sensitivity analysis and optimizing simulation considering design constraints, an optimal design of the spindle system has been obtained.
