  • This research investigates how the fineness modulus of fine aggregates and the grain shape of coarse aggregates affects flow characteristics, packing characteristics and compressive strength characteristic. The experimental results, show that increase of the fine aggregate's fineness modulus improved concrete flow, but filling ability was high at over KS regulation extent due to segregation phenomena. It is considered that the improvement of 0.1 spherical rate was effective to concrete fluidity elevation by reducing about $6\%$ of fine aggregate ratio displays which the smallest gap rate of aggregate. Compressive strength was increased to about 0.6MPa everytime F.M. 0.1 of fine aggregate fineness is increased. However, it was decreased to about 9MPa at F.M. 3.5 compared to F.M. 3.0.

  • Recently, there are problems due to the exhaustion of natural aggregate resources, and strict restrictions. In this study, the possibility of using Water Granulated Ferro-Nickel slag as a substitutive material of fine aggregate is determined from the properties of mechanical and durability for the concrete that is made with Water Granulated Ferro-Nickel slag. According to the test results, when the mixing rate of Water Granulated Ferro-Nickel Slag aggregates concrete is adjusted, up to 50% of its aggregates by mixing rate can be mixed with general aggregates. The optimum mix ratio is considered to be 40%. The freezing and thawing resistance of Water Granulated Ferro-Nickel Slag aggregates concrete is identical to that of general aggregates concrete, while the carbonation resistance is found to be same as or lower than that of general aggregates concretes.

  • In this study, laboratory model test carried out to present the suitable range of particle size distribution and clogging behavior of recycled aggregates and crushed stone as horizontal drains in soft ground. The recycled aggregates and crushed stone showed clogging phenomenon because the top fill material and bottom clay inflow into the horizontal drains. The pp mat was the most effective method to minimize clogging phenomenon. The horizontal coefficient of permeability in case of installing the pp mat showed largely 2.1 times more than the case of not installing. When the pp mat is not installing, the thickness of fine grained soil inflow into the horizontal drains showed 6.7~13.3% range in top fill material and 3.3~6.7% range in bottom clay. Overall, the reduction of the discharge capacity by fine grained soil inflow showed small in recycled aggregates and crushed stone. Also, the appropriate criterion range of particle size distribution is presented to make use of a horizontal drains in soft ground on the basis of laboratory test.

  • This study investigates the effect of crushed fine aggregate and chemical admixture (durability improvement agent, named DIA) on blast furnace slag-based brick. The control brick was made with recycled fine aggregate of 100% and, no cement was used. Test results showed that all specimens developed similar strength, except for the specimen without partial replacement of crushed fine aggregate at 3 days. However, it is interesting to note that this specimen without crushed fine aggregate resulted in the highest strength at 7 days. In addition, the DIA had a major effect on the absorption ratio of brick specimens. For the brick specimens with partial replacement of crushed fine aggregate with 10%, the addition of DIA with only 1% was enough to satisfy the code regulated by KS F 4004.

  • Portland cement pervious concrete has been expected to have good water permeability, mechanical properties and abrasion resistance at the same time when Portland cement pervious concrete is applied to the actual vehicle pavement. In this study, the coarse aggregate and cement were replaced by the fine aggregate and the silica fume to improve actual road performance Portland cement pervious concrete. The Mechanical properties, the water permeability and the abrasion resistance of Portland cement pervious concrete were investigated. The results show that the compressive strength, the flexural strength and the abrasion resistance are increased when the fine aggregate and the silica fume are added to Portland cement pervious concrete separately. However, the porosity and the water permeability are decreased simultaneously. With assistance of silica fume and fine aggregate simultaneously, Portland cement pervious concrete could achieve a higher strength. The compressive strength, the flexural strength and the abrasion resistance of Portland cement pervious concrete mixed with 5% fine aggregates and 8% silica fume are increased by 93.1%, 65% and 65.2%, respectively. The porosity and the water permeability are decreased by 22.4% and 85% when Portland cement pervious concrete is mixed with 5% fine aggregate and 8% silica fume. Therefore, the replacement ratio of the fine aggregates and the silica fume should be considered comprehensively and determined on the premise of ensuring the water permeability coefficient.

  • This study is to investigate experimentally the strength properties of mortar using recycled fine aggregates(RA) and blast furnace slag powder(BS) without cement according to type of fine aggregate. In the results of the study, compressive strength of RA was the highest. It can be considered that the results are due to the reaction of the non-hydration cement in RA to the latent hydraulicity reaction of the BS.

  • In this study, the recycled fine aggregates produced from the waste concrete by using Jaw crusher depending on crushing gap of Jaw crusher were studied to offer a solution for recycled fine aggregate for concrete. The results of the experiment showed that the factors that influence grading and water absorption ratio, density and grain shape were significantly characterized by the generation of the particulate matter and the crushing shape of the aggregate.

  • As the importance of recycled materials is being emphasized more in the Korean construction market, the production quality has been improved to a significantly high level. Compared to the high quality, however, there are used very limitedly. Among recycled construction materials, recycled aggregates produced through the retreatment of waste concrete are drawing attention because of lack of natural aggregate and heightened consciousness of resource saving and environmental protection and, as a consequence, they are close to natural aggregates in terms of production technology and quality. Despite the high quality and productivity, however,. the utilization of recycled aggregates is very low. Thus, in order to maximize the utility of recycled aggregates, the present study examined the usability of recycled aggregates using both recycled coarse aggregates and recycled fine aggregates together and derived optimal quantity and mixture ratio in the combined use of the two types of recycled aggregate.

  • This study analyzed the effects of changes in mixing factors of zero-cement mortar that only used recycled fine aggregates and fly-ash on quality of mortar, and the results are as follows. To describe the property of fresh mortar, as mix proportion and flow of mortar increased, W/B was highly selected and air content decreased. To describe compressive strength according to age as the property of hardened mortar, it was revealed that the strength did not strength until the 14 day, but strength of about 1 ~ 2 MPa strength during the 14 day through 28 day, and almost similar strength after 28 day. Also, compressive strength according to changes in mix proportion, flow and B/W was generally similar. Summarizing the above experimental results, in case of mortar that used recycled fine aggregates and fly-ash, it secured the strength for the use of landfill even though not for structural use. Especially, poor mix proved to be more useful than rich mix.
