  • The government's various support policies have helped Korea's SMEs and startups to grow from the beginning to the end, from domestic companies to exporters. In particular, direct business support policies such as financial support, R&D projects, and export support have been effective in helping a large number of entrepreneurs and startup companies to establish themselves in the market and have achieved tangible results every year since the establishment of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. As such, the government is making significant efforts to create and promote various types of support policies and to help companies utilize them in their business. However, this study aims to analyze the factors that affect the satisfaction of government policies and the achievement of managerial performance from the companies' perspective and to suggest the purpose of government support policies and the direction companies should take. Specifically, this study categorizes entrepreneurial self-efficacy into marketing, innovation, management, risk-taking, and financial management, using the relationship model of self-efficacy and collective efficacy to ultimately lead to practical results for SMEs and startups support policies. It uses perceived firm efficacy as a variable to reveal the influence relationship. In addition, the direct and mediating effects of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and policy satisfaction on managerial performance were analyzed to determine what SMEs and startups support policies should do. The results showed that, first, among the five components of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, innovation, and risk-taking efficacy positively affected perceived firm efficacy. Second, the specific components of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, marketing, and financial management efficacy positively influenced policy satisfaction. Third, we found that perceived firm efficacy positively influenced policy satisfaction and managerial performance, which are factors of SMEs and startups' policy performance. Specifically, perceived firm efficacy positively influenced policy satisfaction managerial performance. Fourth, we found that policy satisfaction positively influenced managerial performance.

  • Purpose - This paper examines the effects of host country's non-economic factors on foreign affiliate's financial and operational performance. Design/Methodology - Using Korean-owned foreign affiliate-level data, we employ various measures that represent host country's non-economic factors and examine their effects on foreign affiliate's performance. We further investigate the effects of local top managers and local middle managers on the impact of country's non-economic factors on foreign affiliate's performance. Findings - We find that local top managers are effective in increasing foreign affiliate's financial performance by dealing with institutional and cultural factors, particularly in high-income countries, while local middle managers are effective in increasing affiliate's operational performance by responding to the changes in doing business factors, particularly in low-income countries. Originality/value - Considering that most of previous FDI studies focus on examining host country's economic factors on firm's FDI decision, our findings suggest that country's non-economic factors are strongly associated with actual business performance of foreign affiliates.

  • Korea Credit Guarantee Fund(KODIT) is a public financial institution under the provision of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund Act. Facing the waves of change both locally and globally, KODIT will serve as 'social value creator' in making a paradigm shift from a large corporation(Conglomerate-dominated) economy to a social enterprise-oriented one based on social economy. This study focuses on the supporting service programs for social enterprises and job creation how it affects the performance of social value creation of KODIT. There is currently no detailed research of the social value in terms of the business and management academic agenda. Therefore, the present study describes the importance of social value creation on the policy financial institution. This study conducted in-depth case study for social value performance. As a public policy financial institution, KODIT exert diverse efforts to correct market failure and achieve inclusive growth. For example, KODIT extends credit guarantee services for the liabilities of promising corporations and stimulates financial and non-financial supporting programs for social enterprises. The present study can thus act as the foundation for exploring the social value creation in the circumstances of public financial institution.

  • Intellectual capital is becoming a crucial factor for a firm's long-term profit and performance in the knowledge-based economy as more firms identify their core competence as invisible assets rather than visible assets (Itami, 1987). The company was encouraged to measure financial and non-financial factors, including the customer perspective groups, the internal business process, learning and growth perspective, then to link all these measurements in a coherent system. This paper seeks to investigate the influence of intellectual capital elements on company performance, as well as the relationship among intellectual capital elements from a cause-effect perspective. Resource-Based View (RBV) considers intellectual capital as resource and capability to sustain competitive advantage on company performance. The partial least squares approach is used to examine listed banks in Indonesia Stock Exchange for year 2017-2019. Results show that human capital directly has positive influences on innovation capital, customer capital, and process capital. Innovation capital has positive, but less significant influence on process capital, which in turn influences customer capital. Human capital and process capital also influence customer capital. Finally, customer capital contributes to performance. This study helps management to identify relevant intellectual capital elements as competitive advantage and their indicators to enhance business performance.

  • In 2011, the 4th industrial revolution officially occurred and developed in most countries. The fourth industrial revolution has given organizations numerous business opportunities, enabling them to optimize their manufacturing processes, cut costs, and thereby improve their operations. The development of enterprises is a decisive factor in increasing national productivity, thereby improving economic growth and per capita income. Therefore, it is necessary to grasp the digital transformation plan and apply science and technology to domestic enterprises and improve the operational efficiency of the economy. Research on small and medium enterprises in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is considered a successful country in economic development and digital transformation and has become a middle-income economy and a highly open economy, the research results suggest that the ability to apply technology in businesses is capable of improving corporate financial performance. The choice of capital structure favoring debt has a negative effect on the financial performance of the enterprise; that is, enterprises in Vietnam should limit the choice of financing investment projects with debt, on the contrary, enterprises should choose to finance with equity. Finally, the study also discusses managerial implications for improving business performance in the context of the rapidly evolving 4.0 technology revolution.

  • Most researches on the corporate credit rating are generally classified into the area of bankruptcy prediction and bond rating. The studies on bankruptcy prediction have focused on improving the performance in binary classification problem, since the criterion variable is categorical, bankrupt or non-bankrupt. The other studies on bond rating have predicted the credit ratings, which was already evaluated by bond rating experts. The financial institute, however, should perform effective loan evaluation and risk management by employing the corporate credit rating model, which is able to determine the credit of corporations. Therefore, this study presents a corporate credit rating method using business failure probability map(BFPM) and AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process). The BFPM enables us to rate the credit of corporations according to business failure probability and data distribution or frequency on each credit rating level. Also, we developed AHP model for credit rating using non-financial information. For the purpose of completed credit rating model, we integrated the BFPM and the AHP model using both financial and non-financial information. Finally, the credit ratings of each firm are assigned by our proposed method. This method will be helpful for the loan evaluators of financial institutes to decide more objective and effective credit ratings.

  • It seems a common sense that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a key driver to attain business sustainability. Nevertheless, there has been little research on the performance of socially responsible activities, including economic and environmental responsibility activities in internationally diversified firms. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of CSR activities on management performance. For this evaluation, an empirical analysis was conducted with a total of 2,520 cases, selected from companies listed on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index market for six years from 2013 to 2018. As proxies for management performance, financial date such as a total asset net profit ratio and a total asset-operating ratio were used. A multivariate regression analysis was conducted to test hypotheses. The results of this analysis indicated that firms in the CSR outstanding group are significantly higher than other groups in management performances. In addition, CSR activities of internationally diversified firms positively influence their total asset net profit ratio and total asset-operating ratio. The results suggested that CSR activities of these firms can play a significant role in enhancing management performances amid the economic status of Korea, where a degree of export dependency is high.

  • Though their activities, companies have an impact on environmental problems and nature conservation. The accounting sector can play a role in environmental conservation efforts related to environmental costs, and the implemention of the Corporate Sustainability Management System (CSMS) could be a key factor that can improve the company's financial performance. This study aims to determine how green accounting through the application of CSMS can improve the financial performance of manufacturing companies in Indonesia, a developing country. The sampling method used was purposive sampling, while the research sample consisted of 38 companies that had followed PROPER and were indexed on the IDX. Data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method known as the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. The results of this study indicate that manufacturing companies in Indonesia are able to implement green accounting by allocating appropriate environmental costs by earmarking a portion to carry CSMS implementation so as to improve financial performance. People in Indonesia consider that manufacturing companies that have good company rankings in the evaluation program for company performance ratings in environmental management run by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment are in a position to generate customer loyalty, especially in financial performance.
