연부조직 교정술에 의한 무지 외반증의 치료 (Treatment of Hallux Valgus with Modified McBride Method)

  • Purpose: We are going to present a report from clinical and radiographic results of hallux valgus done only by soft-tissue procedure, when intermetatarsal joint is totally unfit under mild to moderate deformity. Materials and Methods: As a retrospective study, among all the patients who went under the surgery for hallux valgus, and of those who were possible to follow up,(excluding those whose intermetatarsal joint is fit) it was done over 28 cases (18 patients). the soft-tissue procedure was all done by Modified Mc Bride. Results: Hallux valgus angle and intermetatarsal angle each showed correction of $19.4^{\circ}$ and $5.2^{\circ}$, and from the final follow up, they were each decreased by $5.1^{\circ}$ and $1.5^{\circ}$. 21% (6case) were recurred, in one case, the intermetatarsal angle decreasing 120 and the other 5 case all decreased by $13^{\circ}$. Conclusion: when the intermetatarsal joint is unfit and there is no degenerative change, and, if the intermetatarsal angle is not large, moderate hallux valgus can show a good result, just by the distal soft-tissue procedure. a critical indication and a well through out preparation can reduce unneccessary surgeries.

  • 5G AgiLe and fLexible integration of SaTellite And cellulaR (5G-ALLSTAR) is a Korea-Europe (KR-EU) collaborative project for developing multi-connectivity (MC) technologies that integrate cellular and satellite networks to provide seamless, reliable, and ubiquitous broadband communication services and improve service continuity for 5G and beyond. The main scope of this project entails the prototype development of a millimeter-wave 5G New Radio (NR)-based cellular system, an investigation of the feasibility of an NR-based satellite system and its integration with cellular systems, and a study of spectrum sharing and interference management techniques for MC. This article reviews recent research activities and presents preliminary results and a plan for the proof of concept (PoC) of three representative use cases (UCs) and one joint KR-EU UC. The feasibility of each UC and superiority of the developed technologies will be validated with key performance indicators using corresponding PoC platforms. The final achievements of the project are expected to eventually contribute to the technical evolution of 5G, which will pave the road for next-generation communications.

Rietveld법에 의한 $Nd_3Ba_5Co_4O_{15}$상의 정밀화 (Structure Refinement of $Nd_3Ba_5Co_4O_{15}$ Phase by Rietveld Method)

  • Nd2O3, BaCo3, Co3O4를 출발물질로 하여 새로운 Nd3Ba5Co4O15상을 고상반응법에 의하여 합성하였다. 반응 온도는 1200℃ 로 하였고 열처리 중 반복적인 혼합을 실시하였다. Nd3Ba5Co4O15상의 결정구조는 분말 X-선회절법에 의한 데이터를 Rietveld법을 이용하여 정밀화하였다. 출발 모델은 Nd3.43Ba4.42Co2.23Al1.77O15의 결정구조를 따랐고 공간군 P63mc(186), 격자상수 a=11.636(5) Å, c=6.846(3) Å. 최종 신뢰도 R값은 Rwp=0.097, Rp=0.068로 나타났다. 이 상의 결정구조는 CoVICoIV3O15 클러스터로 구성되어 있고 이 클러스터는 CoVI 육면체가 3개의 CoIV 사면체와 corner sharing하는 형태를 보인다.

초산, 불산 및 질산을 함유한 폐혼산의 분리 연구 (The study on the Separation of Waste acid containing Acetic acid, Hydrofluoric acid and Nitric acid)

  • 실리콘웨이퍼 제조공정에서 발생되는 초산, 불산 및 질산을 함유한 3성분계 폐혼산으로부터 각 산을 분리하여 무기산으로 재활용하기 위하여 용매추출법을 적용하였다. 이러한 산을 선택적으로 분리하기 위해 추출제로 초산의 경우는 EHA(2-Ethylhexlalcohol)를 사용 하였으며 질산과 불산의 경우에는 TBP(Tri -butlyphosphate)를 사용하여 추출과정과 탈거과정에 대한 공정설계를 위한 기초 실험을 실시하였다. 3성분계 페혼산에서 먼저 초산을 추출 분리하고, 추출여액중 질산 및 불산을 순차적으로 연속 분리 할 수 있는 공정개발을 위하여 McCabe-Thiele해석을 통해 최적 투입유량비(O/A), 소요단수(Stage) 등을 결정하였다. 분석 결과 혼산으로부터 초산의 회수율은 90%이상 이었으며 초산추출여액에서 질산의 회수율은 90%이상, 최종 추출잔류액에서 불산의 회수율은 67%이상 이었다.

Cross-Cultural Validation of the McGill Quality of Life Questionnaire-Revised (MQOL-R), Korean Version; A Focus on People at the End of Life

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to confirm the factor structure of the McGill Quality of Life Questionnaire-Revised (MQOL-R) in the context of Korean culture and to verify its reliability and validity. Methods: The participants comprised terminal cancer patients aged 25 or older, and data from 164 participants were analyzed. The study was conducted in the following order: translation, expert review, reverse translation, preliminary investigation and interviews, and completion of the final version. Confirmatory factor analysis was applied to evaluate the validity of the instrument, and the Beck Depression Inventory, Korean version (K-BDI) was applied to confirm the criterion validity of the MQOL-R Korean version. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient, representing internal consistency, was measured to evaluate reliability. Results: Cronbach's alpha for all 14 questions was 0.862. The model fit indices for confirmatory factor analysis were within the acceptance criteria. The factor loadings of all four factors were over 0.50, and convergent validity and discriminant validity were confirmed. Regarding criterion validity, a negative correlation was found between the four factors of MQOL-R Korean version and the K-BDI. Conclusion: The MQOL-R Korean version, the reliability and validity of which were verified in this study, is a 15-item tool consisting of 14 items dealing with four physical, psychological, existential, and social factors and a single item evaluating the overall quality of life. The MQOL-R Korean version is an instrument that can more concisely and effectively measure the quality of life of patients with life-threatening diseases.

  • 양자 컴퓨팅의 급속한 발전으로 현재의 공개키 암호화 방식이 취약해지자, 미국의 국립표준기술연구소(NIST)는 양자컴퓨터 공격에 대응할 수 있는 새로운 암호화 표준을 개발하기 위한 Post-Quantum Cryptography(PQC) 프로젝트를 시작했다. 이 프로젝트는 전 세계 연구자들이 제안한 다양한 암호 알고리즘들을 검토하고 평가하는 과정을 포함한다. 초기에 선택된 양자 저항성 암호화 알고리즘은 격자와 해시 함수를 기반으로 개발됐다. 현재는 BIKE, Classic McEliece, HQC 등 다양한 기술적 접근 방식을 제공하는 알고리즘들이 네 번째 라운드에 검토 중이다. CRYSTALS-KYBER, CRYSTALS-Dilithium, FALCON, SPHINCS+는 세 번째 라운드에서 표준화 대상으로 선정됐다. 2024년에는 네 번째 라운드에서 선정된 알고리즘들과 현재 평가 중인 알고리즘들에 대한 최종 결정이 내려질 예정이다. 양자 컴퓨팅 시대를 대비해 공개 키 암호 시스템의 보안을 강화하는 중요한 단계로, 미래의 디지털 통신 시스템을 위협으로부터 보호하는 데 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상된다. 본 논문에서는 양자 내성 암호 알고리즘의 보안성과 효율성을 분석하여 그 동향을 제시한다.

Cellular Zn depletion by metal ion chelators (TPEN, DTPA and chelex resin) and its application to osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells

  • Trace mineral studies involving metal ion chelators have been conducted in investigating the response of gene and protein expressions of certain cell lines but a few had really focused on how these metal ion chelators could affect the availability of important trace minerals such as Zn, Mn, Fe and Cu. The aim of the present study was to investigate the availability of Zn for the treatment of MC3T3-E1 osteoblast-like cells and the availability of some trace minerals in the cell culture media components after using chelexing resin in the FBS and the addition of N,N,N',N'-tetrakis-(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine (TPEN, membrane-permeable chelator) and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA, membrane-impermeable chelator) in the treatment medium. Components for the preparation of cell culture medium and Zn-treated medium have been tested for Zn, Mn, Fe and Cu contents by atomic absorption spectrophotometer or inductively coupled plasma spectrophotometer. Also, the expression of bone-related genes (ALP, Runx2, PTH-R, ProCOL I, OPN and OC) was measured on the cellular Zn depletion such as chelexing or TPEN treatment. Results have shown that using the chelexing resin in FBS would significantly decrease the available Zn (p<0.05) $(39.4{\pm}1.5{\mu}M\;vs\;0.61{\pm}10.15{\mu}M)$ and Mn (p<0.05) $(0.74{\pm}0.01{\mu}M\;vs\;0.12{\pm}0.04{\mu}M)$. However, levels of Fe and Cu in FBS were not changed by chelexing FBS. The use of TPEN and DTPA as Zn-chelators did not show significant difference on the final concentration of Zn in the treatment medium (0, 3, 6, 9, $12{\mu}M$) except for in the addition of higher $15{\mu}M\;ZnCl_2$ which showed a significant increase of Zn level in DTPA-chelated treatment medium. Results have shown that both chelators gave the same pattern for the expression of the five bone-related genes between Zn and Zn+, and TPEN-treated experiments, compared to chelex-treated experiment, showed lower bone-related gene expression, which may imply that TPEN would be a stronger chelator than chelex resin. This study showed that TPEN would be a stronger chelator compared to DTPA or chelex resin and TPEN and chelex resin exerted cellular zinc depletion to be enough for cell study for Zn depletion.

철 및 망간코팅사를 분리 충진시킨 파일럿 여과시스템에 의한 3가 비소 제거 (Removal of As(III) by Pilot-Scale Filtration System Separately Packed with Iron-Coated Sand and Manganese-Coated Sand)

  • 망간코팅모래(MCS)와 철코팅모래(ICS) 21.5 kg씩 동량을 하부 및 상부층으로 2단 충진시킨 파일럿 규모의 여과시스템을 구성하여 3가 비소 함유 인공오염수 처리효율을 조사하였다. 파일럿 장치는 높이 200 cm와 내경 15 cm로 구성되어 있으며, 3가 비소함유 인공 오염수의 반응기 칼럼내 유입은 peristaltic pump를 사용하여 선속도 $5{\times}10^{-3}$ cm/s로 상향류로 시켰으며 148일 동안 여과실험을 실시하였다. MCS 통과지점(중간유출수)과 ICS 통과지점(최종 유출수)에서의 총 비소의 파과는 각각 18일 및 44일 경과 후에 이루어졌고 그 이후 파과가 급격히 진행되었으며 148일이 지났을 때 완전파과가 발생하였다. 비록 MCS 층을 통과한 유출수에서의 총 비소파과는 18일 경과 후에 나타났지만 유출수내의 3가 비소 농도는 61일 동안 50 ppb 이하로 나타났으며 이후에는 급격히 증가되어 나타났다. 이것은 칼럼에 충진된 MCS가 61일 동안 효과적으로 3가 비소에 대한 산화력을 나타내기 때문에 기인한 것이며 MCS 1 kg당 3가 비소 92 mg을 산화처리 함을 나타낸다. 그리고 완전파과가 발생할 때 까지 MCS에 의해서 흡착된 총 비소의 양은 MCS 단위 kg 당 79.0 mg에 해당하였다. 운전기간 동안 반응탑내의 각 지점에서의 시간에 따른 수두의 변화는 크게 나타나지 않아서 ICS 및 MCS를 갖춘 여과시스템은 큰 수두손실 없이 오염수를 장기간 처리할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Evaluation of Aluminum and Copper Biosorption in Two-Metal System using Algal Biosorbent

  • Biomass of non-living brown seaweed Sargassun fluitans pretreated with NaOH is capable of taking up more than $10\%$ $(q_{max}$ : 3.85 mmol/g for Al and 1.48 mmol/g for Cu) of its dry weight in the Al and Cu at pH of 4.5. However, the maximum Al and Cu uptakes calculated from Langmuir isotherm were 1.58 mmol/g for Al and 1.35 mmol/g for Cu at pH 3.5. Equilibrium batch sorption study was performed using two-metal system containing Al and Cu. The mathematical model of the two-metal sorption system enabled quantitative estimation of one-metal biosorption inhibition due to the influence of a second metal. NaOH-treated S. fluitans contained 2.19 mmol $(43\;wt.\%)$ carboxyl groups per gram of biomass. A modified form of Langmuir, which assumes binding of Cu as $Cu^{2+}$ and Al as $Al(OH)_2^+,$ was used to model the experimental data. This result agrees with the one of mono-valent sorption for Al in single-metal system. The modified Langmuir model gives the following affinity correlated coefficients: 0.196 for Cu and 6.820 for Ah at pH 4.5, and 2.904 for Cu and 3.131 for Al at pH 3.5. The interference of Al in Cu biosorptive uptake was assessed by `cutting' the three dimensional uptake isotherm surfaces at constant second-metal final concentrations. Equimolar final equilibrium concentrations of Cu and Al of 1 mM at pH 4.5 give Cu and hi uptakes reduced by $82.5\%\;and\;5.4\%,$ respectively. However, these values at pH 3.5 were $55\%\;(Cu)\;and\;31\%$ (Al).

Comparison of Short Curved Stems and Standard-length Single Wedged Stems for Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes with use of short-curved stems versus standard-length single wedged stems over a minimum follow-up period of five years. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study of primary total hip arthroplasties performed using the Fitmore® stem (127 hips, 122 patients) and the M/L taper® stem (195 hips, 187 patients) between October 2012 and June 2014 was conducted. The clinical and radiographic outcomes were obtained for evaluation over a minimum follow-up period of five years. Results: In both the Fitmore® and M/L taper® groups, the mean Harris hip score improved from 52.4 and 48.9 preoperatively to 93.3 and 94.5 at the final follow-up, respectively (P=0.980). The mean Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index scores also improved from 73.3 and 76.8 preoperatively to 22.9 and 25.6 at the final follow-up, respectively (P=0.465). Fifteen hips (Fitmore®: 14 hips; M/L taper®: one hip, P<0.001) developed intraoperative cracks and were treated simultaneously with cerclage wiring. Radiography showed a radiolucent line in 24 hips in the Fitmore® group and 12 hips in the M/L taper® group (P=0.125). Cortical hypertrophy was detected in 29 hips (Fitmore® group: 28 hips; M/L taper® group: one hip, P<0.001). Conclusion: Similarly favorable clinical and radiographic outcomes were achieved with use of both short-curved stems and standard-length single wedged stems. However, higher cortical hypertrophy and a higher rate of femoral crack were observed with use of Fitmore® stems.
