Many researches have been made on the processing technology of Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), which is widely used for clothing and non-clothing applications. In this study, we coated PET filaments with m-aramid resin to improve heat resistance and antimicrobial properties. In order to enhance adhesion between PET and m-aramid polymer, the adhesive polymer was coated on the PET filaments using a winding speed of 100m/min and then treated with m-aramid. Scanning electron microscopy was used to analyze the surface of the adhesive polymer and m-aramid treated PET filament. The change of initial degradation temperature according to treatment was confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis. Antimicrobial activity analysis using bacterial reduction method showed that PET filament treated with adhesive polymer and m-aramid had an increased antibacterial effect compared to untreated PET filament.
Among many fabrication methods of composite materials, filament winding is the most effective method for fabricating axis-symmetric structures such as pressure tanks and pipes. Filament wound pressure tanks are under high internal pressure during the operation and it has the complexity in damage mechanisms and failure modes. For this reason, it is necessary to monitor the tank through its operation as well as whole fabrication process. A large number of sensors must be embedded into multi points of the tank from its fabrication step for monitoring the whole tank. Fiber optic sensors, especially fiber Bragg grating(FBG) sensors are widely used for various applications because of good multiplexing capabilities. However, we need to develop the embedding technique of FBG sensors into harsh inner environment of the tank far the successful embedment. In this paper, we studied the embedding technique of a number of FBG sensors into filament wound pressure tanks considering multiplexing.

Filament winding method is widely used for composite fabrications using low viscosity liquid for-mation and processing asymmetrical structures of pressure vessel pipe rocket motor case etc. The filament winding method is affected by several parameters such as pot life of process time viscosi-ty of resin filament winding temperature and schedules curing condition and post curing condi-tion of resin. To develope high functional composite materials the rotation(5, 15, 20, 30rpm) of the winding machine was controlled by D.C motor. And the wiper to give proper tension was equipped between strand and resin bath. The resin is hooked by the design wiper. The adequate cure schedule was found by DSC. NOL ring test is carried out to investigate the basic physical properties such as design technology. The void contents in filament winding is generally higher than that of the prepreg laminated plate. These high contents of void can make a crack in resin in spite of low deformation. These problem was solved by giving tension in processing. To improve the characteristics of fiber volume fraction void contents resin/fiber bonding the winding speedc is changed under constant tension. It was found that resin impregnation was not different from in fiber contents void contents at the range of 0.5~1kg tension but it was found that resin was not impregnated at the above of 1.5kg tension. In burst test a pure PE liner was failed at a nozzle part under the $14kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ pressure but a pressure vessel of CNG was failed at a cylinder part under the $200kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ pressure.
SiC-polycrystalline fiber (Tyranno SA, Ube Industries, Ltd.) shows very high heat-resistance and excellent mechanical properties up to very high temperatures. However, further increase in the strength is required. Up to now, we have already clarified the relationship between the strength and the defect-size of the SiC-polycrystalline fiber. The defects are formed during the conversion process from the raw material (amorphous Si-Al-C-O fiber) into SiC-polycrystalline fiber. In this conversion process, a degradation of the Si-Al-C-O fiber and a subsequent sintering of the degraded fiber proceed as well, accompanied by a release of CO gas and compositional changes, to obtain the dense SiC-polycrystalline fiber. Since these changes proceed in each filament, the strict control should be needed to minimize residual defects on the surface and in the inside of each filament for achieving the higher strength. In this paper, the controlling factors of the fiber strength and the fine structure will appear.

Silicon carbide and its composites are being considered as a nuclear fuel cladding material for LWR nuclear reactors because they have a low neutron absorption cross section, low hydrogen production under accident conditions, and high strength at high temperatures. The SiC composite cladding tube considered in this study consists of three layers, monolith CVD SiC - $SiC_f$/SiC composite -monolith CVD SiC. The volume fraction of SiC fiber and surface roughness of the composite layer affect mechanical and corrosion properties of the cladding tube. In this study, various types of SiC fiber preforms with tubular shapes were fabricated by a filament winding method using two types of Tyranno SA3 grade SiC fibers with 800 filaments/yarn and 1600 filaments/yarn. After chemical vapor infiltration of the SiC matrix, the surface roughness and fiber volume fraction were measured. As filament counts were changed from 800 to 1600, the surface roughness increased but the fiber volume fraction decreased. The $SiC_f$/SiC composite with a bamboo-like winding pattern has a smaller surface roughness and a higher fiber volume fraction than that with a zigzag winding pattern.

This study was performed to ascertain the three-dimensional effect of the crack reduction and the restrained effect of crack growth, and to yield a suitable mixing ratio of the synthetic fiber reinforced soil. The results of the study are as follows ; 1) The synthetic fiber has the resisting force for crack because of the adhesion due to the attraction of soil particles. 2) As the synthetic fiber length and the mixing ratio are increased, mono filament synthetic fiber reinforced soil is increased the effects of crack reduction and the restraint of crack growth. 3) The fibrillated synthetic fiber is more effective than mono filament synthetic fiber for crack. 4) A suitable mixing ratio of synthetic fiber reinforced soil is 0.5% of the fibrillated synthetic fiber.

Filament Winding Process is a comparatively simple operation in which continuous reinforcements in the form of roving are wound over a rotating mandrel. And now well established as a versatile method for storage tanks and pipe for the chemical and other industries . In this study, tensile strength of a filament wound ring specimens were evaluated by split disk test fixture and dress disk test fixture , The results obtained from experiments were compared with the theoretical values obtained by the rule of mixtures. And the purpose of this paper is the suggestion of an appropriate test method for the evaluation of tensile properties of filament wound structures .The tensile strength of a ring specimen tested by the dress disk test showed better agreement with the theoretical values than of a ring specimen tested by the split disk test because the stress concentration in edges of a split disk test fixture is more severe than that of dress disk test fixture. The results showed that the tensile strength of a ring specimen was influenced by the geometry of test fixture, the continuity of fibers, fiber-tension, fiber-end and stress concentration in specimen.

The results of an experimental investigation on the characteristics of compaction and compressive strength of polypropylene fiber reinforced soil are presented in this paper. This study has been performed to obtain the physical properties of PFRS(polypropylene fiber reinforced soil) such as strain-stress relationships, OMC(optimum moisture contents) and ${\gamma}$dmax (maximum dry unit weight), with four different contents (i.e., 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5% and 1.0% weights ) of mono-filament and fibrillated polypropylene fibers. From the compaction test results, it is found that OMC increased with the contents ratio of fiber, but ${\gamma}$dmax decreased. It means that the improvement of the workability and the reduction of the weight of embankment structures by the asddtion of the polypropylene fiber. And, from the compression test results, it is found that the additon of the polypropylene fiber remarkably improved the compressive strength of PFRS. And it was observed in the viewpoint of strength that the fibrillated polypropylene fiber reinforced soil is more effective than the mono-filament polypropylene fiber reinforced soil.
