A variety of influenza A viruses from animal hosts are continuously prevalent throughout the world which cause human epidemics resulting millions of human infections and enormous industrial and economic damages. Thus, early diagnosis of such pathogen is of paramount importance for biomedical examination and public healthcare screening. To approach this issue, here we propose a fully integrated Rotary genetic analysis system, called Rotary Genetic Analyzer, for on-site detection of influenza A viruses with high speed. The Rotary Genetic Analyzer is made up of four parts including a disposable microchip, a servo motor for precise and high rate spinning of the chip, thermal blocks for temperature control, and a miniaturized optical fluorescence detector as shown Fig. 1. A thermal block made from duralumin is integrated with a film heater at the bottom and a resistance temperature detector (RTD) in the middle. For the efficient performance of RT-PCR, three thermal blocks are placed on the Rotary stage and the temperature of each block is corresponded to the thermal cycling, namely $95^{\circ}C$ (denature), $58^{\circ}C$ (annealing), and $72^{\circ}C$ (extension). Rotary RT-PCR was performed to amplify the target gene which was monitored by an optical fluorescent detector above the extension block. A disposable microdevice (10 cm diameter) consists of a solid-phase extraction based sample pretreatment unit, bead chamber, and 4 ${\mu}L$ of the PCR chamber as shown Fig. 2. The microchip is fabricated using a patterned polycarbonate (PC) sheet with 1 mm thickness and a PC film with 130 ${\mu}m$ thickness, which layers are thermally bonded at $138^{\circ}C$ using acetone vapour. Silicatreated microglass beads with 150~212 ${\mu}L$ diameter are introduced into the sample pretreatment chambers and held in place by weir structure for construction of solid-phase extraction system. Fig. 3 shows strobed images of sequential loading of three samples. Three samples were loaded into the reservoir simultaneously (Fig. 3A), then the influenza A H3N2 viral RNA sample was loaded at 5000 RPM for 10 sec (Fig. 3B). Washing buffer was followed at 5000 RPM for 5 min (Fig. 3C), and angular frequency was decreased to 100 RPM for siphon priming of PCR cocktail to the channel as shown in Figure 3D. Finally the PCR cocktail was loaded to the bead chamber at 2000 RPM for 10 sec, and then RPM was increased up to 5000 RPM for 1 min to obtain the as much as PCR cocktail containing the RNA template (Fig. 3E). In this system, the wastes from RNA samples and washing buffer were transported to the waste chamber, which is fully filled to the chamber with precise optimization. Then, the PCR cocktail was able to transport to the PCR chamber. Fig. 3F shows the final image of the sample pretreatment. PCR cocktail containing RNA template is successfully isolated from waste. To detect the influenza A H3N2 virus, the purified RNA with PCR cocktail in the PCR chamber was amplified by using performed the RNA capture on the proposed microdevice. The fluorescence images were described in Figure 4A at the 0, 40 cycles. The fluorescence signal (40 cycle) was drastically increased confirming the influenza A H3N2 virus. The real-time profiles were successfully obtained using the optical fluorescence detector as shown in Figure 4B. The Rotary PCR and off-chip PCR were compared with same amount of influenza A H3N2 virus. The Ct value of Rotary PCR was smaller than the off-chip PCR without contamination. The whole process of the sample pretreatment and RT-PCR could be accomplished in 30 min on the fully integrated Rotary Genetic Analyzer system. We have demonstrated a fully integrated and portable Rotary Genetic Analyzer for detection of the gene expression of influenza A virus, which has 'Sample-in-answer-out' capability including sample pretreatment, rotary amplification, and optical detection. Target gene amplification was real-time monitored using the integrated Rotary Genetic Analyzer system.
Including malignancy, various disease can show abnormal uptake in bone marrow. We report a case of non-specific inflammatory FDG uptake in bone marrow mimicking malignancy. A 35-year old woman with fever of unknown origin (FUO) underwent $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT to find out fever $^{18}F$-FDG and unknown malignancy. $^{18}F$-FDG was injected and imaged 1hr after injection with Discovery ST (GE, USA), $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT whole body image showed abnormal uptake in lower extremities (Fig. 1). MRI and biopsy was also done in the sites of abnormal uptake. PET and MRI suspect malignancy (Fig. 2, 3), but biopsy result was non-specific inflammatory process (Fig. 4). The patient was improved her clinical condition after antibiotics therapy.
In order to study the tenderizing effect of the proteolytic enzyme, ficin, from fig fruit (Ficus carica L), the enzyme was purified from fig latex by precipitation and chromatography. The ficin separated from Bongraesi showed single band on SDS-PAGE. However, the ficin from Masui showed tow bands. The specific activity of ficin purified from Bongraesi species was 2.8 unit/mg protein and that from Masui species was 6.5 unit / mg protein. The amounts of ficin purified from 50 mL of crude latex of Bongraesi and Masui were 1,760 mg and 657 mg, respectively. the water holding capacity of beef decreased to the large extent, when sugar Bongraesi latex and Masui latex were added. The hardness of beef showed decreasing tendency with the time, however, after 60 min, it decreased and thereafter increased a little after 120 min. the hardness of beef decreased sharply with addition of the latex of Bongraesi and Masui. The Masui has more tenderizing effect than the Bongraesi. When meat was mixed with tenderizing agent(ficin) and not heated, the change of color showed significant difference (p<0.01). when meat was mixed with tenderizing agent(ficin) and heated, the toughness showed significant difference (p<0.01) and the softness showed significant difference (p<0.001).
A three year and seven month old girl with moderate depression deformity of the sternum associated with a huge well defined homogenous hazy mass density of the upper half of the right hemithorax on plain chest x-ray had developed, exertionaI dyspnea (Figs1, 2 and 3). Correction of the funnel chest was carried out with modified Ravitch procedure and resection of the intrathoracic cystic mass was performed through an anterolateral thoracotomy incision in one stage operation satisfactorily (Figs. 7 and 8). On exploration, the mass, $15{\times}12{\times}10$cm in size, was connected to the bronchus at 1cm a bove the carina by a stalk (Fig. 4). The outer surface showed abundant vasculature. The specimen was filled with mucoid material; the inner surface was much trabeculated. glistening and smooth (Fig. 5 and 6). yficroscopically, the cyst was lined with simple or pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium. The cystic wall was composed of loose fibrous connective tissue, muscle layers, cartilages with some lymphocytic infiltration (Fig. 9). Isolated cases of funnel chest deformity and congenital bronchogenic cystic disease are not uncommon; however, the assocbtion of the two conditions is yery rare. Therefore. report and review of the literature was done.
This represents a case report of the retained polyethylene catheter fragment in superior vena cava. A 39 year old male was admitted to this Korea University Hospital a short time after compression wound on abdomen with heavy cement material in emergency room, a polyethylene catheter was introduced into the right subclavian vein through a needle. But when the polyethylene catheter was attempted to withdraw the catheter was severed by the beveled tip of the needle. Later that day, chest X-ray disclosed the presence of the fragment extending from right subclavian vein to the superior vena cava. {Fig. 1 and Fig. 2]. Local exploration by way of an infraclavicular incision was unsuccessful in locating the catheter fragment. Another attempt was then made remove the catheter by means a biotome, which is originally a device for the biopsy of the myocardium, introduced through the right great saphenous vein. This procedure, though well tolerated by the patient, was in vain. After 11 days later, during that time he was taken a laparotomy with drain, another operation for removal of retained catheter fragment was performed through median sternotomy. After exposure of the right subclavian vein, innominate vein, and superior vena cava, an incision 1 cm in |length was made directly over the palpated catheter. The catheter immediately was picked upward and removed. The length of the catheter was approximately 8 cm. [Fig 3 ] There was no evidence of thromboembolism from the catheter or other complications. The patient made an uneventful recovery, and was discharged asymptomatic on the 9th postoperative day.

To protect the watermelon against soil-borne pathogens, we are currently producing disease-resistant transgenic root stock for the growth of watermelon, A defensin gene (J1-1) from Capsicum annum, a ACC deaminase gene from Pseudomonas syringae, a galactinol synthase (CsGolS) gene from Cucumis sativus, and a WRKY (CvWRKY2) gene from Citullus vulgaris were used as transgenes for disease resistance. The gene were transformed into a inbred line (6-2-2) of watermelon, Kong-dae watermelon and a inbred line (GO702S) of gourd, respectively, by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Putative transgenic plants were selected in medium containing 100mg/L kanamycin, and then integration of the genes into the genomic DNA were demonstrated by PCR analysis. Successful integration of the gene in regenerated plants was also confirmed by PCR (Figf 1), genomic Southern blot (Fig 2), RT-PCR (Fig 3), and Northern blot analysis(Fig 4). Several T1 lines having different transgene were produced, and disease resistance of the T1 lines are under estimation.

The soil test data of 28 earth dams, scheduled to be constructed in Kore3, were selected for this study. The safety factors of their side slops were computed using Fellenius' "slice Method" by computer. The results summarized in this study are as follows; 1. Dam sections can be easily determined by fig.10 without a time consuming trial and error calculations of assumed sections. 2. For the economical design of earth dam sections, it was found that more cohesive soil was suitable for lower dams(dam height less than 25m) and soils with a higher friction angle was better for higher dams 3. In the case that used soil materials have the same Internal friction angle, side slope increase was almost same. 4. The relationship between side slope and friction angle was found as log.S=a tan ø+b (Fig. 7) 5. The relationship between side slope and cohesion (c) was also found as log. S=a c+b (Fig. 8) 6. The change of safety factors due to the change of central core materials was very little (Table-2) 7. The decrease of safety factors according to the unit weight increase of embankment materials was negligible. 8. In general the relationship between the wet unit weight and the saturated unit weight was r sat = (rt)$^2$+0. 140. This study will contribute to the determination of economic and safe planning and designing of earth dams, embankments and cutting side slopes.

A practically useful CAD system for mold design in the plastic injection molding processes has been developed. Even though many efforts have been tried to simulated the injection molding process, this is the first attempt toward an automatic mold design system instead of a manufacturing or a simulation system. In this system the computational routines, the data base for mold design, and the routines for three dimensional modeling are blended together so that the designed mold is obtained as a solid model. For this development, the following problems have been solved. First, the modeling capability of the plastic parts has been implemented by incorporating the modeling routines of a constructive solid geometric modeling system and developing a constant thickness modeling conditions, and that of standard mold bases have been established. Third, the experimental know-how and the empirical formulae have been collected and blended together with the modeling routines of a geometric modeling system to provide the high level commands for designing mold.
The effect of herbal medicine on glutamate mediated neurotoxicity was studied in mouse neurons in primary culture. Immature cerebral cortex neurons (ED14) were maintained for up to 2 weeks in vitro, and we investigated the expression pattern of neuron differentiation and cytotoxicity of cell death, including LDH activity. Neuronal maturation initiated on day 7 and the susceptibility to glutamate-induced cell death was highly sensitive on Day 11 (Fig. 1). Thus, the exposure of the neurons to glutamate caused a dose$(0.1mM{\sim}1mM)$ and time$(4h{\sim}24h)$-dependent neurotoxicity(Fig. 4). Glutamate-induced neurodegeneration was prevented by Shipchondaebotang(SD), Yollyounggobondan(YG), Yugmijihwangwon(YJ) and the death of neurons exposed to glutamate was blocked by the NMDA receptor antagonist MK-801 (Fig. 5).
Kakegawa City is located at 138 deg. E and 34 deg. 45 min. N, in the west of Shizuoka Prefecture. Its population is approximately eighty thousands and its area is 185.79 square kilometers as shown in Fig.1. The city government has been developing GIS for the purpose of land management and tax base calculation and is one of the most advanced local governments in Shizuoka Prefecture. The city government has been developing the database of various kinds of physical and social environmental information, but the city government uses small parts of the database only fur land management and tax base calculation. The purpose of this report is to show the database of kakegawa City as shown in Table 1 and propose the effective usage of the database. The database of Kakegawa City as shown in Fig.2 and Fig.3 is imported to GIS in our laboratory and reconstructed as the database retrievable from each individual land. The authors developed the retrieval system of each individual land and combined it to the reconstructed database. If our GIS is open to the public, a lot of citizens will get useful information about their environments.
