Generally, the Doubly Salient Machine such as Switched Reluctance Motor doesn't have Permanent Magnet, it sometimes adopts permanent magnet or DC filed winding for high efficiency or adjustable speed control. In this paper, adjustable speed range is compared for Doubly Salient Permanent Magnet Machine (DSPM), Brushless Doubly Fed Doubly Salient Machine (BDFDS) and Hybrid Excited Doubly Salient Machine (HEDS). Especially, air-gap flux density to the DC field current is shown and the operating speed as the field-weakening is estimated.
A new type of auto-rotary PM mechanical flux-varying PM machine (ARPMMFVPMM) is proposed in this paper, which can overcome the problem where the air-gap magnetic field of a PM machine is difficult to freely adjust. The topology structures of the machine and the mechanical flux-adjusting device are given. In addition, the operation principle of flux-adjusting is analyzed in detail. Furthermore, the deformation of a spring with the speed variation is obtained by virtual prototype technology. Electromagnetic characteristics including the flux distribution, air gap flux density, flux linkage, electromagnetic-magnetic-force (EMF), and flux weakening ability are computed by 2D finite element method (FEM). Results show that the machine has some advantages such as the good field control ability.
The control performance of hybrid PWM inverter using a phase current measurement is presented in this paper. The hybrid PWM technique consists of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and six-step voltage control operation. The SVPWM is performed to reduce the harmonic components in the low speed region, and the six-step modulation is applied to increase the maximum speed of the IPMSM in the high speed region. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a great performance in both the low speed range and high speed range. However, the six-step modulation cannot be completely implemented, since the inverter that includes the lag-shunt sensing method has an immeasurable current region. In this paper, a quasi-six-step modulation using a modified voltage vector is proposed. The validity and usefulness of the proposed PWM technique is verified by MATLAB/Simulink and experimental results.
In this paper we presents a speed controller for separately excited DC motor using adaptive backstepping technique. The motor was modeled in two local areas the first model is a linear one when speed is under base speed, the other is nonlinear one when field weakening is used to obtain the speed well above base speed. Then linear robust state feedback controller was designed for the linear model while adaptive backstepping controller was designed for the nonlinear model. The adaptive backstepping technique takes system nonlinearity into account in the control system design stage. The proposed controller is proved to be asymptotically stable by the Lyapunov stability theory and some simulations have been carried out to test.

This paper proposes a new speed sensorless direct torque and flux controlled interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drive. Closed-loop control of both the torque and stator flux linkage are achieved by using two proportional-integral (PI) controllers. The reference voltage vectors are generated by a SVM unit. The drive uses an adaptive sliding mode observer for joint stator flux and rotor speed estimation. Global asymptotic stability of the observer is achieved via Lyapunov analysis. At low speeds, the observer is combined with the high frequency signal injection technique for stable operation down to standstill. Hence, the sensorless drive is capable of exhibiting high dynamic and steady-state performances over a wide speed range. The operating range of the direct torque and flux controlled (DTFC) drive is extended into the high speed region by incorporating field weakening. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Electric drive vehicles (EDV) have received much attention recently because of their environmental and energy benefits. In an EDV, the motor drive system directly influences the performance of the propulsion system. However, the available DC voltage is limited, which limits the maximum speed of the motors. At high speeds, the inverter voltage increases if the square wave (SW) voltage (six-step operation) is used. Although conventional direct torque control (DTC) has several advantages, it cannot work in the six-step mode required in high-speed applications. In this paper, a single-mode seamless DTC for AC motors is proposed. In this scheme, the trajectory of the reference flux changes continuously between circular and hexagonal paths. Therefore, the armature voltage changes smoothly from a high-frequency switching pattern to a square wave pattern without torque discontinuity. In addition, because multi-mode controllers are not used, implementation is more straightforward. Simulation results show the voltage pattern changes smoothly when the motor speed changes, and consequently, torque control without torque discontinuity is possible in the field weakening area even with a six-step voltage pattern.
This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of IPM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. The IPM synchronous motors have a saliency, in which the q-axis inductance is larger than the d-axis inductance. As a consequence, there exists a reluctance torque component Thus when this component is added to the torque component produced by the stator currents and the air-gap flux, IPM motor drives are readily applicable where full torque Is required up to full or base speed. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the IPMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The wide variety of speed control strategy is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation using actual parameters of a drive system. Simulation results are given and discussed.

This paper describes a development of traction unit for 2-motor driven electric vehicle (EV). The traction unit is consisted with an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), a reduction gear and an inverter for electric vehicle that is driven by 2 motors without differential gear. For traction unit, prototype IPMSM and inverter have been developed. The IPMSM was designed by CAD program that was developed with both equivalent circuit method and FEM. Also the inverter was developed to drive 2 motors with 6 legs IGBT switches in a control board. The vector control algorithm was implemented with maximum torque control method in the constant torque region and field weakening control method in the constant power region considering inverter capacity. To verify that the traction unit is more high efficiency and has more high power density than a traction unit with induction motor with the same power, we would like to show the results about the design and analysis of the IPMSM and the experiment results about the traction unit.
The rotor flux level need be changed frequently for field weakening or power efficiency control. Motor inductances depend on rotor flux but not on machine temperature. On the other hand, rotor resistance varies greatly with the machine temperature. Motor parameters such a sinductances and rotor resistance should be known precisely in order to attain high dynamic performance of inductin motor. In this paper, efficient an dnovel identification algorithms for motor inductances and rotor resistance are presented. The rotor flux is changed. As the result, the slip frequency is varied. The identificatin algorithm for rotor resistance measures the varied slip frequency and alters the estimated rotor resistance. Then, the estimated value of rotor resistance will approach its real value. The proposed identification algorithms are computationally simple and have very small identification errors.
