  • Background: Tumors of the heart are uncommon. The aim of this study is to review our clinical experience and outcome of surgical treatment of cardiac neoplasm. Material and Method: From March 1990 to December 2005, 35 patients(14 males and 21 females) with mean age of 52.4 years underwent surgical treatment of cardiac neoplasm. The clinical and pathologic data were analyzed retrospectively. Surgical treatment consisted in complete resection of the tumor in all cases but 1 patient who was left ventricular fibroma received biopsy only. Result: Thirty cases were benign and five cases were malignant tumor. Benign tumors were myxoma(29 cases) and fibroma(1 case). Five malignant tumors were osteosarcoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, renal cell cancer, yolk sac tumor, and unclassified myxoid spindle cell type sarcoma. There were no operative mortality in benign cases and twenty seven cases of myxoma were followed up for 8 months to 15 years without recurrence. But four patients of malignant tumor were expired within six months after operation. Conclusion: Left atrial myxomas are most common benign neoplasm. Surgical treatment is effective for the benign cardiac tumors but prognosis is poor in patients with malignant cardiac tumors.

  • Purpose: To evaluate clinical characteristics of soft-tissue masses around the foot Materials and Methods: Sixty seven cases of soft tissue masses around the foot, excised at Kang Dong Sacred Heart hospital from Jan. 1987 to Oct. 2000, were included in the study. The age and sex of the patient, location and size of the lesion, history of trauma, presence or absence of pain and neurological symptoms as wellas final pathological diagnosis were obtained from retrospective analysis. Results: For type of lesion, all lesions were benign. Ganglion was 23 cases, epidermal inclusion cyst was 10 cases, lipoma was 8 cases, hemangioma was 5 cases and fibroma was 4 cases. For age, 63 percent of the patients were either between the ages of twenty and thirty nine or between the ages of fifty and fifty nine. For sex, the male-to-female ratio was 1 to 1.4. For zones of the foot, 18 cases were in Zone 1, 17 in Zone 4, 12 in Zone 2, 12 in Zone 3 and 8 in Zone 5. For clinical finding, 18 cases had pain. Conclusion: Ganglion was the most common lesions, followed in order of frequency by epidermal inclusion cyst, lipoma, hemangioma and fibroma. Lesions occurred frequently at Edward and Michael Zone 1, 4 and pain was the most common symptom.

  • A 12-year-old Yorkshire Terrier bitch evaluated with vaginal prolapsed and vaginal bleeding. Abdominal sonography and radiography demonstrated abnormal enlargement of uterus in abdominal cavity. The dog had been submitted to the vaginal mass resection and the ovariohysterectomy. In gross examination, the vaginal mass was firm and multiple cysts were detected in both ovaries and uterine horns. In microscopic examination, vaginal fibroma, uteroovarian cystadenocarcinoma were revealed. To our knowledge, this report is a very rare case of multiple complex neoplasms in the genital organs of dog. These findings may contribute to study and enhance the knowledge on genital tumors.

  • Fibromyxoma of the jaw is a rare benign mesenchymal odontogenic tumor with locally aggressive behavior. In the present report, a 13-year-old female patient presented to our university hospital with delayed eruption of some of her teeth. A panoramic radiograph taken at the initial examination revealed four pericoronal radiolucencies related to the four third molars. Thereafter, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination was performed. After the surgical removal of these molars, the microscopic examination diagnosed the four lesions as fibromyxomas. Here, we have discussed the clinical, panoramic radiography, MRI, and histopathological findings of the case.

  • Localized fibrous tumor of the pleura (LFTP) is of submesothelial fibrous origin, which has been called pleural fibroma and has been confused with mesothelioma. We experienced a case of LFTP in a twenty nine year old man. The tumor arose from the right parietal pleura with long stalk. Chest X-ray and CT scan showed a 6$\times$5$\times$4cm well-defined mass in the right costophrenic angle. Wo evidence of metastasis was noted. Exploratory thoracotomy with enbloc excision of 6$\times$5$\times$4cm mass was done. The fine needle aspiration cytology and histopathologic features indicated the tumor to be malignant, and biologic behavior was discussed.

  • Arrested pneumatization of the sphenoid sinus is a developmental variant that is not always well recognized and is often confused with other pathologies associated with the skull base. This report describes the case of a patient referred for cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging for dental implant therapy. CBCT demonstrated a well-defined incidental lesion in the left sphenoid sinus with soft tissue-like density and sclerotic borders with internal curvilinear opacifications. The differential diagnoses included intraosseous lipoma, arrested pneumatization of the sphenoid sinus, chondrosarcoma, chondroid chordoma, and ossifying fibroma. The radiographic diagnosis of arrested pneumatization was based on the location of the lesion, its well-defined nature, the presence of internal opacifications, and lack of expansion. Gray-scale CBCT imaging of the area demonstrated values similar to fatty tissue. This case highlighted the fact that benign developmental variants associated with the skull base share similar radiographic features with more serious pathological entities.

  • Elastofibroma, dorsi, a rare, noncapsulated benign entity is characterized by the proliferation of fibrous tissue with elastin and occurs most often in the infrascapular area of elderly women. It is a relatively slowly growing lesion and no reports of malignant transformation exist. Which is overlooked easily because it rarely causes symptoms such as tenderness, pain, or restriction of movement. The diagnosis of elastofibroma is established by typical histopathologic findings. Radiographic evaluation may lead to a presumptive diagnosis. We experienced a case of elastofibroma dorsi in a 48-year-old woman and report this case with a review of the literature.
