FRP has been used very much as high strength and electrical insulation materials. The fiber contributes the high strength and modulus to the composite. The main roles of the matrix in composite materials like FRP are to transmit and distribute stresses among the individual fibers. The fiber orientation in FRP has a great effect on the strength of FRP because the strength of FRP mainly depends on the strength of fiber. In this study, compressive and bending stresses of FRP rods were simulated and measured according to the winding orientation of glass fiber. Inner part of FRP was made unidirectionally by pultrusion method and outer part of FRP was made by filament winding method to give fiber orientation to the FRP. The shear stresses had great effect on the strength of FRP although the stress of parallel direction of FRP was much higher. The tendency of compressive and bending strengths with glass fiber orientation was different each other.
Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites not only approach almost near to the strength of thermosetting composite but also has excellent productivity, recycling property, and impact resistance, which are pointed as weaknesses of thermosetting composites. The study for strength calculation of one direction fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites and the study measuring precisely fiber orientation distribution were presented. Need the systematic study for the data base that can predict mechanical properties of composite material and fiber orientation distribution by the fiber content ratio was not constructed. Therefore, this study was investigated what affect the fiber content ratio and fiber orientation distribution have on the strength of composites. Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites by changing fiber orientation distribution and the fiber content ratio were made. Tensile strength ratio of $0^{\circ}$ direction of fiber-reinforced composites increased being proportional the fiber content and fiber orientation function as change from isotropy(J=0) to anisotropy(J=1). But, tensile strength ratio of $90^{\circ}$ direction by separation of fiber filament decreased when tensile load is imposed fur width direction of reinforcement fiber length direction.
In order to predict the post-cracking tensile behavior of fiber reinforced concrete, it is necessary to evaluate the fiber orientation factor which indicates the number of fibers bridging a crack. For investigation of fiber orientation factor on a circular cross-section, in this paper, cylindrical steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens were casted with the variables of concrete compressive strength, circular cross-section size, fiber type, and fiber volumetric ratio. The specimens were cut perpendicularly to the casting direction so that the fiber orientation factor could be evaluated through counting the number of fibers on the circular cross-section. From the test results, it was investigated that the fiber orientation factor on a circular cross-section was lower than 0.5 generally adopted, as fibers tended to be perpendicular to the casting direction. In addition, it was observed that the fiber orientation factor decreased with an increase of the number of fibers per unit cross-section area. For rational prediction of the fiber orientation factor on a circular section, a rigorous model and a simplified equation were derived through taking account of a possible fiber inclination angle considering the circular boundary surface. From the comparison of the measured data and the predicted values, it was found that the fiber orientation factor was well predicted by the proposed model. The test results and the proposed model can be useful for researches on structural behavior of steel fiber reinforced columns with a circular cross-section.

This study aims to systematically research the various phenomena which arise from compression molding of fiber reinforced plastic composites. Long fiber reinforced plastic composites are rib type compression molded in order to measure the orientation in products, and the specimens are photographed with soft X-ray. The intensity of the photograph is applied by an image scanner, and the fiber orientation distribution of products is measured by using an image processing technique.

This paper is concerned with a fracture strength study of composite adhesive lap joints. The tensile and peel tests were carried out on specimen manufactured hybrid stacked composites such as the polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer. The main objective of the work was to test the failure strength of adhesive bonded joints using hybrid stacked composites with a polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer adjacent to the fiber orientation. From results, the load directional orientation, small amount and low thickness of bamboo natural fiber layer have a good effect on the tensile and peel strength of natural fiber reinforced composites. and these characters are have a great influence on fracture strength and failure shape of adhesive bonded joints using hybrid stacked composites in the difference of fiber orientation.

Recently, methods that usea carbon-based filler, a conductive nanomaterial, have been investigated to develop composite fillers containing dielectric materials. In this study, we added geometric changes to a carbon fiber, a typical carbon-based filler material, by differentiating the orientation angle and the number of plies of the fiber. We also studied the electrical and electromagnetic shield characteristics. Based on the orientation angle of $0^{\circ}$, the orientation angle of the carbon fiber was changed between 0, 15, 30, 45, and $90^{\circ}$, and 2, 4, and 6 plies were stacked for each orientation angle. The maximum effect was found when the orientation angle was $90^{\circ}$, which was perpendicular to the electromagnetic wave flow, as compared to $0^{\circ}$, in which case the electrical resistance was small. Therefore, it is verified that the orientation angle has more of an effect on the electromagnetic interference shield performance than the number of plies.
In this study, the fiber orientation distribution (FOD) is investigated using both micro-CT (computerized tomography) and image analysis of physically cut specimens prepared from Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) fiber reinforced cemented Toyoura sand. The micro-CT images of the fiber reinforced cemented sand specimens were visualized in horizontal and vertical sections. Scans were obtained using a frame rate of two frames and an exposure time of 500 milliseconds. The number of images was set to optimize and typically resulted in approximately 3000 images. Then, the angles of the fibers for horizontal sections and in vertical section were calculated using the VGStudio MAX software. The number of fibers intersecting horizontal and vertical sections are counted using these images. A similar approach was used for physically cut specimens. The variation of results of fiber orientation between micro-CT scans and visual count were approximately 4-8%. The micro-CT scans were able to precisely investigate the fiber orientation distribution of fibers in these samples. The results show that 85-90% of the PVA fibers are oriented between ±30° of horizontal, and approximately 95% of fibers have an orientation that lies within ±45° of the horizontal plane. Finally, a comparison of experimental results with the generalized fiber orientation distribution function 𝜌(θ) is presented for isotropic and anisotropic distribution in fiber reinforced cemented Toyoura sand specimens. Experimentally, it can be seen that the average ratio of the number of fibers intersecting the finite area on a vertical plane to number of fibers intersecting the finite area on a horizontal plane (NVtot/NHtot) cut through a sample varies from 2.08 to 2.12 (an average ratio of 2.10 is obtained in this study). Based up on the analytical predictions, it can be seen that the average NVtot/NHtot ratio varies from 2.13 to 2.17 for varying n values (an average ratio of 2.15).
In this paper the influence of fiber orientation of basalt and carbon inter-ply fabrics on the flexural properties of hybrid composite laminates was experimentally investigated. Four types of basalt/carbon/epoxy inter-ply hybrid composite laminates with varying angle ply orientation of reinforced basalt fiber and fixed orientation of carbon fiber were fabricated using hand lay-up technique. Three point bending test was performed according to ASTM 7264. The fracture surface analysis was carried out by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results obtained from the four laminates were compared. Lay-up pattern of $[0B/+30B/-30B/0C]_S$ exhibits the best properties in terms of flexural strength and flexural modulus. Scanning electron microscopy results on the fracture surface showed that the interfacial de-bonding between the fibers and epoxy resin is a dominant fracture mode for all fiber lay-up schemes.

In this study, analysis of steel fiber orientation and distribution inside fiber reinforced concrete was performed using micro-CT scanning technology. Samples were extracted from the column according to its height and distance from the mold. Samples were scanned in order to attain the image of steel fibers then region of interest were obtained by binarization process. By calculating the principle moment of inertia of each fiber, direction vector, scale, center postion, volume, and surface area were gained in order to analyze the orientation and distribution. Most of the fibers inside the column tended to be perpendicular to the main axis of the column. Moreover, most of the fibers appeared at the bottom of the column and at the position where it is farthest from the mold.
