  • In recent, development of nano fiber has been one of the most active subjects in the world. Nano fiber is defined as a ultra fine yarn with a diameter unit of $10-100\times10^{-9}meter$, which is possible to be produced by an electro-spinning technology. In this study, physical characteristics and dyeing properties of nylon 66 nano fiber were investigated. Nylon 66 nano fiber was dyed with levelling type acid dyes. X-ray diffraction method and DSC analysis were used for the measurement of the degree of crystallization. Analysis of amino end groups was also performed in order to examine a relationship between number of amino groups and its dyeing property as well as water absorption behavior. The maximum exhaustion % of dyes and dyeing rate under various dyeing conditions, such as dyeing temperature and pH in dye bath, along with build-up properties for 2 acid dyes were evaluated. It was found that the degree of crystallization of nano fiber was smaller than that of regular fiber, and amino end groups of nano fiber were less than regular fiber. Half dyeing time of nano fiber was shorter than regular fiber because of the bigger specific surface area. Effect of pH on exhaustion % was small in case of nano fiber. Exhaustion of nano fiber increased with higher concentration of dye.

  • To develop automobile parts, the unsaturated polyester based matrix resin(PR)/reinforcement(randomly oriented chopped E-glass fiber, GF) composites were prepared using sheet molding compound(SMC) compression molding. The effects of GF length(0.5, 1.0 1.5 and 2.0inch)/content (15, 20, 25, 30wt%) and number of ply(3, 4 and 5) on the specific gravity and mechanical properties of PR/GF composites were investigated in this study. The optimum length of GF was found to be about 1.0inch for achieving improved mechanical properties(tensile strength and initial modulus). The tensile strength and initial modulus of composites increased with increasing GF content up to 30wt%, which is favorable content range for SMC. The specific gravity, tensile strength/initial modulus, compressive strength/modulus, flexural strength/modulus and shear strength increased with increasing the number of ply up to 5, which is the maximum number of ply range for SMC. The effectiveness of ply number increased in the flexural strength > shear strength > compressive strength > tensile strength.

  • The contact resistivity was correlated with IFSS and microfailure modes in conductive fiber/cement composites electro-pullout and AE. As IFSS increased, the number of AE signals increased and the contact resistivity increased latter to the infinity. In dual matrix composite (DMC) test and AE, the number of signals with high amplitude and energy in g]ass fiber composite is significantly larger than that of no-fiber composite. Many vertical and diagonal cracks were observed in glass fiber and no-fiber composite under tensile test, respectively. Electro-micromechanical technique and AE can be used efficiently for sensitive nondestructive (NDT) evaluation and to detect microfailure mechanisms in various conductive fibers reinforced brittle and nontransparent cement composites.

  • In this paper, temperature-induced optical phase shifts in single-mode fibers are studied both analytically and experimentally. Temperature sensor using single-mode fiber interferometer is designed and the temperature sensitivity of the sensor system is investigated. This fiber-optic temperature sensor which employs the Mach-Zehnder arrangement is a high sensitivity sensor of phase detection type. In this type, temperature changes are ob-served as a motion of an optical interference fringe pattern. In the measurements using interferometer, one of the important problems is to detect simultaneously the number and direction of fringe displacement resulting from physical perturbations (temperature, pressure, etc.). To realize this, the array detector using multi-mode fiber is designed. By this array detector the number and direction of fringe displacement is Ineasured very conveniently.

  • In this study, effects of kneading treatment on the properties of hardwood bleached kraft pulp (HwBKP), softwood bleached kraft pulp (SwBKP) and hardwood bleached chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp (HwBCTMP) were elucidated with a laboratory two-shaft kneader. Kneading treatment was performed at 30% (w/w) of pulp concentration and the number of passes through the kneader was adjusted from 0 to 10 passes. Then, changes in properties of pulp fibers were evaluated. It was found that fiber characteristics were influenced by kneading treatment. Fiber length was decreased with kneading while other morphological properties such as fiber width, curl and kink became increased as the number of passes through the kneader increased from 0 to 5 passes. The magnitude of changes in the morphological properties of softwood chemical pulp was the largest, followed by hardwood chemical pulp. The morphological properties of HwBCTMP were little influenced by kneading treatment. Swelling of fiber measured by WRV was increased with kneading except of HwBCTMP.

  • Method of Steel plate reinforced by fiber sheet is advantageous in the secure loading facility. For this method are a light weight and a high strength, the thickness of steel can be reduced Effects of composite system are depreciated when the thickness of steel is thin. This is the result of the difference of ductility ratio with steel plate. Steel plate reinforced by fiber sheets confirms the ability of transformation. This is the result of the property of steel materials Steel plate reinforced by fiber sheet didn't display an enough performance when theadhesives are epoxy rosin. This is the result of the slide of the surface of stee1. The adhesive ability is varied by the number and span of anchor bolts. There wasn't happening the separation between steel and epoxy. Thus the method used in combination with anchor and epoxy is best excellent. This is the result of the upward of accumulation effects Shearing force is in proportion to the number of bolts. But the ability of shearing force per one bolt is reducing. Thickness of steel plate reinforced by fiber sheet must be designed so that steel is endure before concrete is wreck.

  • Marine microalgae have different collection methods depending on their habitat. In the case of adhesive microalgae, it is difficult to separate organisms from the substrate surface, and contamination is likely to occur during the sampling process. In this study, we analyzed the collection efficiency of adhesive microalgae using three artificial fiber materials (nylon, blend fabric, and viscose rayon). Each fiber showed different fiber diameter and pore characteristics (nylon 26.09 ㎛, blend fabric 56.6 ㎛, viscose rayon 101.3 ㎛). In addition, attached organisms were collected on the surface of artificial substrates at Bukseong Port in Incheon using each tested fiber material. After that, we investigated the population and species composition. The highest number of cells was found in nylon, which was 8 times higher than in the least collected viscose rayon material. In addition, we identified 24 microalgal species from the substrate, demonstrating that the species composition differed from that of surface water. The number of collected microalgae species varied depending on the fiber materials, with nylon containing all the adhesive microalgae. In contrast, only a few microalgae were observed in other fibers. These results suggest that, of the tested fibers, nylon material may be suitable for collecting adhesive microalgae. As a result, this study may be useful for future research on adhesive microalgae.

  • Because of rapid technological advancements, increased data rate support has become the key criterion for future communication medium selection. Multimode optical fibers and multicore optical fibers are well matched to high data rate throughput requirements because of their tendency to support multiple modes through one core at a time, which results in higher data rates. Using the numerical mode solver OptiFiber, we have designed a concentric core fiber by investigating certain design parameters, namely core diameter (µm), wavelength (nm), and refractive index profile, and as a result, the number of channels, material losses, bending losses, polarization mode dispersion, and the effective nonlinear refractive index have been determined. Space division multiplexing is a promising future technology that uses few-mode fibers in parallel to form a multicore fiber. The experimental tests are conducted using the standard second window wavelength of 1,550 nm and simulated results are presented.

  • In this study, flexural strength and impact resistance were evaluated to investigate the fiber length effect of amorphous metallic fiber. As a result, in the case of 30AFRCC, cutoff behavior due to excellent bonding performance by large specific surface area has greatly influence on the flexural and impact resistance performance. In the case of 15AFRCC, the bonding efficiency is relatively low, because the specific surface area is smaller than that of 30AFRCC and the number of fiber is large, so the effect of improving the flexural and impact resistance performance is smaller than that of 30AFRCC.

  • The paper deals with the rupture strain estimation of fiber sheets. The experimental study involved tensile testing of 120 fiber sheet specimens and bending testing of 72 concrete beams strengthened with various types of fiber sheets(carbon, glass, and aramid fiber). Concrete beams have 3 types of reinforcement ratios. Rupture strains of fiber sheet specimens are determined by tensile tests to be a little less than the tensile failure strain by the catalog, independently on the number of fiber sheet layers. It is shown that the rupture strain of fiber sheet bonded to reinforced concrete beam is not constant, but decreases as the fiber sheet layer increases. Based on these results, the rupture fiber sheet strain is estimated.
