Deep coupling beams are more prone to suffer brittle shear failure. The addition of steel fibers to seismic members such as coupling beams can improve their shear performance and ductility. Based on the test results of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) coupling beams with span-to-depth ratio between 1.5 and 2.5 under lateral reverse cyclic load, the shear mechanism were analyzed by using strut-and-tie model theory, and the effects of the span-to-depth ratio, compressive strength and volume fraction of steel fiber on shear strengths were also discussed. A simplified calculation method to predict the shear capacity of SFRC deep coupling beams was proposed. The results show that the shear force is mainly transmitted by a strut-and-tie mechanism composed of three types of inclined concrete struts, vertical reinforcement ties and nodes. The influence of span-to-depth ratio on shear capacity is mainly due to the change of inclination angle of main inclined struts. The increasing of concrete compressive strength or volume fraction of steel fiber can improve the shear capacity of SFRC deep coupling beams mainly by enhancing the bearing capacity of compressive struts or tensile strength of the vertical tie. The proposed calculation method is verified using experimental data, and comparative results show that the prediction values agree well with the test ones.

Two major cellulase components purified with sephadex G-75 and DEAE sepharose were applied to bleached kraft pulp to inverstigate the change of fiber properties. Cellulose viscosity was very sensitive to $C_x$ component treatment (more than 15% drop was observed) while being little influenced by $C_1$, component (only 2% drop). Fiber fraction longer than 2mm was reduced by $C_x$ treatment while short fiber fraction was increased greatly by more than 15%. There was little change in fiber length distribution by combined treatment of $C_1$ 1 and $C_x$ at equal. In this case, fine contents increased by more than 2.5% at equivalent refining time. WRV and Density were increased as the amount of $C_1$ or $C_x$ treatment was increased. $C_{x}$ was main cause for increasing them. But the effect fell as enzyme dosage.

Many studies have been performed on steel fiber-reinforced normal/high-strength concrete (SFRC, SFRHC) for years, which is to improve some of the weak material properties of concrete. Most of equations for material strengths of SFRHC, however, were proposed based on relatively limited test results. In this research, therefore, the material test results of SFR(H)C were extensively collected from literature, and material tests have conducted on SFR(H)C; compressive strength tests, splitting tensile tests, and modulus of rupture tests. Based on the extensive test data obtained from previous studies and this research, a database of SFR(H)C material strengths has been established, and improved equations for material strengths of SFR(H)C were also proposed. Test results showed that both the splitting tensile strength and the modulus of rupture of SFR(H)C increased as the volume fraction of steel fiber increased, while the effect of the steel fiber volume fraction on the compressive strength of SFR(H)C were not clearly observed. The proposed equations for the splitting tensile strength and the modulus of rupture of SFR(H)C showed better results than the previous equations examined in this study in terms of not only accuracy but also safety/reliability.

This study carried out finite element deflection analysis of cylindrical shell structures made of composite materials, which is based on the micro-mechanical approach for different fiber-volume fractions. The finite element (FE) models for composite structures using multi-scale approaches described in this paper is attractive not only because it shows excellent accuracy in analysis but also it shows the effect of the material combination. New results reported in this paper are focused on the significant effects of the fiber-volume fraction for various parameters, such as fiber angles, layup sequences, and length-thickness ratios. It may be concluded from this study that the combination effect of fiber and matrix, largely governing the dynamic characteristics of composite shell structures, should not be neglected and thus the optimal combination could be used to design such civil structures for better dynamic performance.

Formation which is one of the most fundamental characteristic of paper quality is affected by a number of variables. Fiber flocculation in the headbox has been recognized as the most important variable influencing formation. Consistency and crowding number of head box stock are known to represent the flocculation potential of stocks. The effects of consistency and crowding number on paper formation were studied by measuring the flocculation of fiber suspensions. Increasing consistency increased the degree of fiber flocculation. Especially the consistency of long fiber fraction was the most crucial factor of flocculation. Tensile strength of handsheets was furnish dependent rather than flocculation dependent. Crowding number of a furnish can be used for the characterization of stock flocculation.
Fines in high-yield sulfite pulp have much higher water retention value as compared with fines in Stone groundwood pulp. Therefore, they are apt to adhere partially or entirely onto the fiber surface during the paper making. This tendency is greatly enhance with decrease of the pretreated yield and increase of the water retention value of fines. Fines, which adhere onto the fiber surface in paper, contribute to the light scattering of the paper. Accordingly, the specific scattering coefficient of fines in high-yield sulfite pulp is considerably lower than that of fines in stone groundwood pulp, which hardly adhere onto the fiber surface. The fact that high-yield sulfite pulp is inferior to stone groundwood pulp in opacity is explained on the basis of the high degree of swelling of fined in addition to the softening of fiber fraction.

Recently advanced countries are now beginning to use ACM (Advanced Composites Material), which is mostly used in the industry of airplane, ship building and sports equipments, in the construction industry. Compared with existing construction materials, ACM possesses many advantages such as light-weight, high-strength, corrosion resistant property. Among other manufacturing process of ACM, pultrusion is one of the promising one of civil engineering application. In this paper, the structural characteristics of pultruded GFRP strip were studied. Major parameters to influence structural behavior of pultruded GFRP are considered to be fiber volume fraction, die temperature, pulling speed and fiber orientations. The effect of these parameters are studied by experimently and analytically. From this study, it is concluded that fiber volume fraction and fiber orientations influence more on the mechanical property of pultruded GFRP. In addition to above parametric study, off-axis tests were carried out and the results are compared with failure theories. It showed that they agree well each other. Since this study is carried out in limited scope, further research on the reinforcement in the transverse direction, experiment on the compressive strength and research on the durability should be conducted for wide application of pultruded GFRP sections.

This paper investigates the effects of aspect ratio and volume fraction of hooked-end normal-strength steel fibers on the compressive and flexural properties of high-strength concrete with specified compressive strength of 60 MPa. Three types of hooked-end steel fibers with aspect ratios of 64, 67 and 80 were considered and three volume fractions of 0.25%, 0.50% and 0.75% for each steel fiber were respectively added into each high-strength concrete mixture. The test results indicated that the addition of normal-strength steel fibers is effective to improve compressive and flexural properties of high-strength concrete but fiber aspect ratio had little effect on the modulus of elasticity and compressive strength. As steel fiber content and aspect ratio increased, flexural beahvior of notched high-strength concrete beams was effectively improved.
This paper employed finite element method (FEM) to study the dynamic response of Steel Fiber-Reinforced Concrete(SFRC) panels subjected to impact loading by spherical projectiles. The material properties and non-linear stress-strain curves of SFRC were obtained by compression test and flexural test. Various parametric studies, such as the effect of fiber volume fraction and thickness of panels, are made and numerical analyses are compared with experiments conducted. It is shown that protective performance of concrete panels will be improved by adding steel fiber. Area loss rates and weight loss rates are decreased with increasing fiber volume fraction. Also, penetration modes can be expected by FEM, showing well agreement with experiment. Results can be applied for designing the protection of military structures and other facilities against high-velocity projectiles.
The indigestible dextrin I was prepared by hydrolyzing pyrodextrin with thermostable ${\alpha}-amylase$. The mean values of indigestible fraction and dieatry fiber of indigestible dextrin I prepared from yellow dextrin were 50.0% and 25.0%, respectively. Also the indigestible dextrin II was prepared by removing low molecular weight saccharides containing glucose with ethanol from enzyme hydrolysate of pyrodextrins. Over 80% of glucose and maltose in initial enzyme hydrolysate were removed, therefore the indigestible fraction and dietary fiber of the indigestible dextrins increased. The indigestible dextrin from ethanol precipitate of enzyme hydrolysate of yellow dextrin by ${\alpha}-amylase$ and amyloglucosidase showed a higher contents of indigestible fraction and dietary fiber than ethanol precipitates by any other enzyme combination, and its mean values were 83.6% and 62.8%, respectively. Consequently, it was found that the indigestible dextrins which are resistant to starch-hydrolysing enzyme can be easily prepared from pyrodextrin, and presumed that they can perform physiological functions as soluble dietary fiber.
