A three-dimensional photogrammetric analysis of the facial esthetics of the Miss Korea pageant contestants

  • Objective: The aims of this study were to measure and compare the facial dimensions of the Miss Korea pageant contestants and a selected group of women from the general population by using three-dimensional (3D) image analysis, as well as to compare various facial ratios to the golden ratio within each group. Methods: Three-dimensional images of 52 Miss Korea pageant contestants (MK group) and 41 young female adults selected from the general population (GP group) were acquired. Fifty-four variables and ratios were measured and calculated. Intergroup comparisons were performed using multivariate analysis of variance. Results: Compared to the GP group, the MK group showed greater total facial height and eye width, lesser lower-facial height, and lesser facial, lower-facial, and nasal widths. Moreover, compared to the GP group, the MK group had more protruded noses with greater nasolabial angle, greater vertical curvature of the foreheads, lesser horizontal curvature of the cheek, and lesser lower-lip-and-chin volume. Conclusions: The MK group had longer faces but smaller lower lips and chins than did the GP group. The golden ratio was not matching the current facial esthetic standards. These data might be beneficial for treatment planning of patients undergoing orthognathic and plastic surgeries.

The Behavioral Analysis of Dance Sports Judge's Visual Searching Strategies: Focusing on the Skating System

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between visual search, eye fixation positions, and eye fixation position on whole body regions while judging final matches of dance sports. Method: Ten experienced judges (male 6, female 4) and six dance sports couples belonging to the top Korean leagues in the Korea Dance sports Federation were participated. Wearable eye trackers were used for data collection. The independent t-test was conducted to examine the effects of gender, and the two-way ANOVA was conducted to examine the effects of judges' gender, dance event, and ranking. Results: It was found that the movement of male contestants was preferred, and the gaze fixation was high for torso movements in the judges' evaluations. Moreover, attention was focused on the upper body rather than the lower body; this was maintained for about seven seconds to evaluate each couple. Conclusion: This find was the relative comparison between the two couples was the determining factor in winning or losing.

A STUDY ON CEPHALOMETRIC EVALUATION OF MIXED DENTITION CHILDREN WITH NORMAL OCCLUSION (Ricketts 분석법에 의한 혼합치열기 정상교합 아동의 두부방사선계측학적 평가에 대한 연구)

  • In order to define a current set of Korean children norm with mixed dentition, following study was done. The subjects were 102 healthy dentition contestants(48boys, 54girls). Standardized lateral head roentgenograms were taken, and Ricketts analysis was done. Results were as follows: 1. Length of anterior cranial base, posterior facial height, corpus length were longer in male than in female(p<0.05), and Porion was located posteriorly in male than in female(p<0.01). 2. Through facial depth, Pogonion of male was more forwardly positioned(p<0.05), mandible was significantly steeper in female, and maxillary anterior teeth were significantly tipped forward in male(p<0.05). 3. Variables such as length of anterior cranial base, upper molar position(p<0.01) and corpus length(p<0.05) were significantly changed by age. 4. Maxillary height, facial depth, mandibular plane angle, convexity were changed by age, but not significantly(p>0.05).

Characteristics of Latin American dance sports costume design (라틴 아메리칸 댄스 스포츠 의상의 디자인 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to collect and analyze costumes presented in international dance sports competitions, and summarize the features of Latin American dance costumes' design. As for research methods, standards of Latin American dance costume design were analyzed via a literature review on dance sports. The scope of the study extended for six years from 2010 to 2015 to include the, top three UK Latin American dance competitions. The results are as follows. First, the silhouette analysis determined that the X silhouette to the lead with, -145 costumes (78%), followed by the H silhouette at 25 (13%), and other at 16 (9%). Amongst those there were 174 one-piece dresses (94%). Furthermore, the analysis on colors of Latin American dance sports costumes revealed that, amongst the 186 costumes, 115 were without color (62%), Bl(black) is the most frequent with 37%, then Wh(white) with 21% and Gr(gray) with 4%. Costumes with colors, based on the six basic colors in the Munsell color system, are comprised most often of red with 12%, the followed by Y(yellow) at 10%, B(blue) at 8%, YR(yellow-red) at 4%, P(purple) at 2%, and G(green) at 2%. Thirdly, the cloth materials of Latin American dance costumes are recognized through image inspection. Among visually recognizable materials, beading materials are the most common with 104 costumes (60%). Shiny materials like mesh, chiffon, organza, lace and burn-out are in 36 costumes in total (19%). Other cloth materials included Luster materials and; non-sheen materials, which were in 46 costumes (25%).
