In this paper, we focus on the fault detection and isolation(FDI) method for inertial navigation system with three two-degree of freedom dynamically tuned gyros(DTG) on orthogonal sensor configuration. we propose the FDI method which can detect the fault of each DTGs rather than the fault of each sensing axis. The proposed FDI method is separated into two FDI modules according to the fault magnitude in order to improve the reliability of fault detection information. For large fault detection, only instantaneous DTG measurement is used to detect a fault DTG within a short time. For small fault detection, the integrated value of DTG measurements are used to detect a fault DTG. It takes a more time to detect a fault but it serves more reliable fault detection information. Using the proposed FDI method with consideration of DTG fault characteristic, we could find out a fault DTG successfully.
This paper presents a systematic and straightforward fault estimation approach for process fault detection. isolation and accommodation. The approach includes the design of a reduced-order observer and an algebraic-fault estimator. The observer is designed for an unknown input and fault-free system, which is obtained by coordinate transformations of original systems with unknown inputs and faults. The observer information is devoted to- the fault estimation for fault detection and isolation. The fault estimates can be used to form an additional control input to accommodate the fault. The suggested scheme is verified through simulation studies performed on the control of a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft in the vertical plane.
The reliability is the critical issue in many computer applications, particularly in process control system. In this paper we describe how to achieve the reliability improvement in controller system based multiprocessor. The proposed method is accomplished by using the techniques of fault detection, fault isolation, safe action, and fault diagnosis.

This paper deals with a fault detection and isolation scheme for a DC motor driven centrifugal pump system. The emphasis is placed on the design and implementation of the residual generatorm, based on parity relation, that provides decision logic unit with residuals that will be further processed to detect and isolate three important faults in the system;brush fault, impeller fault, and the speed sensor fault. Two process faults are modelled as multiplicative type faults, while the sensor fault as an additive one. With multiplicative fault, the implementation of the residual generator needs the time varying transformation matrix that must be computed on-line. Typical implementation methods lack in generality because only a numerical approximation around the assumed fault levels is employed. In this paper, a new implementation method using well tranined neural network is proposed to improve the generality of the residual generator. Application results show that the fault detection and isolation scheme with the proposed residual generator effectively isolates three major faults in the centrifugal pump system even with a wide range of fault magnitude.

In this paper, a redundancy management system for aircraft is studied, and FDI (Fault Detection and Isolation) algorithm of inertial sensor system is proposed. UAV system cannot allow triple or quadruple hardware redundancy due to the limitations on space and weight. In the UAV system with dual sensors, it is very difficult to identify the faulty sensor. Also, conventional FDI method cannot isolate multiple faults in a triple redundancy system. In this paper, hardware based FDI technique is proposed, which combines a parity equation approach with the wavelet based technique, which is a model-free FDI method. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed FDI method, numerical simulations are performed.
Sensor fault detection and isolation problems subject to H_/$H_{\infty}$, performance are concerned for linear time-invariant systems with time delay in a state and parametric uncertainties. To that end, a model-based observer bank approach is pursued. The design conditions for both continuous- and discrete-time cases are formulated in terms of matrix inequalities, which are then converted to the problems solvable via an algorithm involving convex optimization.
This paper proposes an application of sliding mode observer to the problem of fault detection and reconstruction for descriptor systems with both actuator and sensor faults. In detecting and reconstructing the faults simultaneously, first, we will consider the fault detection problem for sensor fault. The detection of sensor fault is achieved from the design of the matrix which eliminates the influence of actuator fault. Secondly, the sliding mode observer which adds the general full-order observer for descriptor system to feedforward injection map and feedforward compensation signal is designed, and through which the sensor fault is reconstructed. Finally, with the reconstructed sensor fault, and by eliminating differential term of the sensor fault, the actuator fault is detected and reconstructed.
This paper presents a novel fault isolation filter design method using left eigenstructure assignment scheme proposed by the first author et al. The proposed method shows good performance of fault isolation with an exact eigenstructure assignment and guarantees that the corrupted ${\gamma}$ faults can be isolated simultaneously when the number of available output measurements are equal to or larger than (${\gamma}+1$). A numerical example for the fault isolation filter is also included.

A real-time operating system has focused primary on techniques to minimize processing time, with a secondary emphasis on system reliability issues. Conversely, fault-tolerant system has concentrated on using recourse and information redundancy to maximize the availability and reliability of the system, with a lesser emphasis on performance. We have developed a fault-tolerant and real-time operations system which support a powerful concurrent runtime environment under the above requirements. In this paper, we present an overview of real-time systems, design and implementation of a duplex architecture using advanced concepts and technologies such as fast " fault detection", "fault isolation" and "fault recovery" Because the duplex architecture has two dentical hardware elements and has several recovery steps and hierarchy to facilitate a fast recovery which must be proceeded by a prompt fault detection and isolation. Thus it makes possible to minimize the overhead of the systems including hardware and software and guarantee the service continuity of he systems.
In this paper, an integrated fault section detection and isolation strategy is proposed based on the application of the Distribution Automation System(DAS) utilizing advanced IT and communication technologies. The Feeder Remote Terminal Unit(FRTU) has been widely used to collect data in the Korean distribution system. The achieved data is adopted in this method for detecting multiple fault types. Especially in the case of single phase-to-ground fault, the fault section is detected by comparison of the zero-sequence current phase angle. The test results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method in a radial distribution system through extensive simulations in Matlab/Simulink. Furthermore, a communication-based demo system identical to the simulation model has been developed, and it can be applied as an online monitoring and control program for fault section detection and isolation.
