인공신경망을 이용한 머플러의 피로 수명 예측 (The prediction of fatigue life of muffler by artificial neural network)

  • 본 연구에서는 초기 개발 단계에서 신속하면서도 정확한 머플러의 피로 수명을 예측하기 위하여 인공신경망을 통해서 용접부 특성을 고려한 머플러의 피로 수명을 예측하는 프로세스를 개발하였다. 머플러 피로와 파손 특성을 파악하기 위하여 굽힘 피로 시험을 수행하였다. 머플러 용접부 특성을 고려하기 위하여 인공신경망 학습 변수로 용접부 최대 응력을 선정하였으며 이를 이용하여 피로수명을 예측하였다. 인공신경망과 기존 피로 노치 계수를 이용한 피로 수명 예측 결과 비교를 통하여 인공신경망을 이용한 머플러 피로 수명 예측 방법의 타당성을 검증하였다.

Low-Cycle Fatigue Failure Prediction of Steel Yield Energy Dissipating Devices Using a Simplified Method

  • One of the failure modes observed in steel yield energy dissipating devices (SYEDs) excited by a strong earthquake would be the low-cycle fatigue failure. Fatigue cracks of a SYED are prone to initiate at the notch areas where stress concentration is usually occurred, which is demonstrated by the cyclic tests and analyses carried out for this study. Since the fatigue failure of SYEDs dramatically deteriorates their structural capacities, the thorough investigation on their fatigue life is usually required. To do this, sophisticated modeling with considering a time-consuming and complicate fracture mechanism is generally needed. This study makes an effort to investigate the low-cycle fatigue life of SYEDs predicted by a simplified method utilizing damage indices and fatigue prediction equations that are based on the plastic strain amplitudes obtained from typical finite element analyses. This study shows that the low-cycle fatigue failure of SYEDs predicted by the simplified method can be conservatively in good agreement with the test results of SYED specimens prepared for experimental validation.

  • Recently, for the development of vehicle structures and components there is a tendency to increase using numerical simulation methods compared with practical tests for the estimation of the fatigue strength. In this study, an integrated powerful methodology is suggested for fatigue strength evaluation through development of the interface program to integrate dynamic analysis quasi-static stress analysis and fatigue analysis, which were so far used independently. To verify the presented evaluation method, a single and zigzag bump run test, 4-post road load simulation and driving durability test have been performed. The prediction results show a good agreement between analysis and test. This research indicates that the integrated life prediction methodology can be used as a reliable design tool in the pre-prototype and prototype development stage, to reduce the expense and time of design iteration.

  • This paper describes the development strategy and contents of a fatigue life evaluation system, FLEVA. The system is composed of 4 parts; material properties, load histories, cycle counting and life prediction. The cycle counting is based on the rain-flow counting method and peak counting method, and the life prediction is performed based on the linear damage rule. Material properties(static, fatigue) are also provided as a database obtained by a computer aided test system. Case study is performed to verify the developed program.

  • In these days, almost urban railway vehicle has been serviced under the random load application. But it is very important that fatigue lift prediction fur structures is major factor of safety. So do this, it is required that fatigue assessment method for cumulative damage approach while Korea domestic regulations only has endurance limit approach. With this endurance limit approach, fatigue lift prediction is impossible. In this research, it will be present that fatigue assessment for urban transit structure by using of cumulative damage approach method and related theories.

  • Time domain method and frequency domain method are commonly used in the current fatigue life calculation theory. The time domain method has complicated procedures and needs a large amount of calculation, while the frequency domain method has poor applicability to different materials and different spectrum, and improper selection of spectrum model will lead to large errors. Considering that artificial neural network has strong ability of nonlinear mapping and generalization, this paper applied this technique to random fatigue life prediction, and the effect of average stress was taken into account, thereby achieving more accurate prediction result of random fatigue life.

  • Practically, induction surface hardening is used widely to enhance the local strength of structure. In this study, Fatigue limit and its S-T characteristic for raw and induction hardened specimen of SCM440 is studied experimentally. The life prediction was considered by Juvinall's equation and its predicted result is compared with experiment.

  • This paper investigates about the prediction of rail bending fatigue lifes for the purpose of the effective maintenance of surface irregularities of rail welded parts. The rail bending stresses are calculated using a track dynamic analysis program. The rail surface irregularities measured in situ are given as inputs in the analyses. On the other hand, the S-N curves are derived based on the results of bending fatigue tests. Using data found so far, rail fatigue lifes are estimated adopting a modified Miner's rule. The useful guides for maintenance of rail welded part are proposed in terms of grinding period and grinding depth of rail surface irregularities.

  • 항공기 주구조에 많은 부분은 겹침이음 형태의 조립구조이며 이러한 구조는 프레팅 손상으로 인해 단순피로에 비해 현저히 수명이 감소된다. 특히 노후 항공기의 경우 프레팅 피로균열은 감항안전을 저해하는 중요한 요인으로 최근 대두된 수명연장 문제와 관련해서도 손상허용성 평가에 프레팅 피로수명 예측이 필수적으로 요구되고 있다. 이러한 배경으로 본 연구에서는 볼트 체결력이 서로 다른 겹침이음 구조시편에 대하여 일련의 프레팅 피로시험을 수행하고 탄소성 접촉응력 유한요소해석 결과로부터 프레팅 파라미터를 구하고 균열발생 및 성장 수명예측 모델식과 최근 제안된 수정 모델식을 통하여 프레팅 피로수명을 예측하였다. 또한 시험결과와 비교분석함으로써 실제 항공기 겹침이음 구조에 프레팅 피로수명 예측 모델식의 적용 유효성을 고찰하였다.

국부 변형률 근사를 이용한 원통형 노치시편의 피로균열 발생수명의 예측 (The Prediction of Fatigue Crack Initiation Life of Cylindrical Notch Specimens Using Local Strain Approximation)

  • Fatigue crack initiation lives of round cylindrical notch specimen were investigated. Firstly, local strain approximation methods, such as the modified incremental Neuber's rule and the modified incremental Glinka's equivalent strain energy density(ESED) rule, were used to get multiaxial stress and strain state components at the notch tip. Based on the history of local stress and strain, multiaxial fatigue models were used to obtain fatigue crack initiation lives. Because the solution of Neuber's rule and Glinka's ESED rule make the upper and lower bound of local strain approximations, fatigue crack initiation lives are expected to place between life predictions by two local strain approximations. Experimental data were compared with the fatigue crack initiation life prediction results.
