  • This paper presents the active eye system for tracking a moving object in 3D space. A prototype system able to track a moving object is designed and implemented. The mechanical system ables the control of platform that consists of binocular camera and also the control of the vergence angle of each camera by step motor. Each camera has two degrees of freedom. The image features of the object are extracted from complicated environment by using zero disparity filtering(ZDF). From the cnetroid of the image features the gaze point on object is calculated and the vergence angle of each camera is controlled by step motor. The Proposed method is implemented on the prototype with robust and fast calculation time.

  • Like the usual systems, the industrial robot manipulator has some constraints for motion. Usually we hope that the manipulators move fast to accomplish the given task. The problem can be formulated as the time-optimal control problem under the constraints such as the limits of velocity, acceleration and jerk. But it is very difficult to obtain the exact solution of the time-optimal control problem. This paper solves this problem in two steps. In the first step, we find the minimum time trajectories by optimizing cubic polynomial joint trajectories under the physical constraints using the modified evolution strategy. In the second step, the controller is optimized for robot manipulator to track precisely the optimized trajectory found in the previous step. Experimental results for SCARA type manipulator show that the proposed method is very useful.

  • Monopulse active homing radar requires velocity and angle information of target to track fast moving target. Target velocity can be estimated by measuring the frequency shift between transmitted and received frequencies. Angle information is obtained by measuring boresight error. Measurement of doppler frequency component in received signal is done through FFT analysis and interpolation algorithm for fine tuning. Boresight errors in azimuth and elevation axes are proportional to the power of each difference channel relative to sum channel. The target signal power in difference channel is estimated more precisely by measuring the power of FFT result cell of maximum ...

  • The railroad is a means of large transportation which has many latents such as a safety and a regularity. That is a results from various confidential performance tests and evaluations of the system. The railroad system consist of various subsystems - vehicle, power supply, signal, communications, track structures, operations, etc. Among them, as an item of safety evaluation there is a measurement of wheel/rail force, so called a measurement of derailment coefficient. This is a very important item because a derailment of a train will bring about a big accident. Especially it is more important in high speed rail of which operation speed is over two times as fast as existing rail. In this paper, it is introduced to preprocess the wheelset for measuring wheel/rail force of high speed rail, such as to treat a measuring wheelset, its finite element analysis, adhesion of strain gauges and static toad test, running test result of main line.

  • Visual object tracking is one of the key tasks in computer vision. Robust trackers should address challenging issues such as fast motion, deformation, occlusion and so on. In this paper, we therefore propose a visual object tracking method that exploits inter-frame correlations of convolutional feature maps in Convolutional Neural Net (ConvNet). The proposed method predicts the location of a target by considering inter-frame spatial correlation between target location proposals in the present frame and its location in the previous frame. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art work especially in hard-to-track sequences.

  • This paper presents a beat gesture recognition method to synchronize the tempo of a robot playing a piano with the desired tempo of the user. To detect an unstructured beat gesture expressed by any part of a body, we apply an optical flow method, and obtain the trajectories of the center of gravity and normalized central moments of moving objects in images. The period of a beat gesture is estimated from the results of the fast Fourier transform. In addition, we also apply a motion control method by which robotic fingers are trained to follow a set of trajectories, Since the ability to track the trajectories influences the sound a piano generates, we adopt an iterative learning control method to reduce the tracking error.

  • Surgical outcomes of colorectal cancer treatment depend not only on good surgery and tumor biology but also on an optimal perioperative care. The enhanced recovery program (ERP) - a multidisciplinary and multimodal approach, or so called 'fast-track surgery' - has been designed to minimize perioperative and intraoperative stress responses, and to support the recovery of organ function aiming to help patients getting better sooner after surgery. Compared with conventional postoperative care, the enhanced recovery program results in quicker patient recovery, shorter length of hospital stay, faster recovery of gastrointestinal function, and a lower incidence of postoperative complications. Although not firmly established as yet, the enhanced recovery program after surgery could be of oncological benefit in colorectal cancer patients because it can enhance recovery, maintain integrity of the postoperative immune system, increase feasibility of postoperative chemotherapy, and shorten the time interval from surgery to chemotherapy. This commentary summarizes short-term outcomes and potential long-term benefits of enhanced recovery programs in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

  • In object tracking, the template matching methods have been developed and frequently used. It is fast enough, but not robust to an object with the variation of size and shape. In order to overcome the limitation of the template matching method, this paper proposes a template update technique. After finding an object position using the correlation-based adaptive predictive search, the proposed method selects blocks which contain object's boundary. It estimates the motion of boundary using block matching, and then updates template. We applied it to IR image sequences including an approaching object. From the experimental results, the proposed method showed successful performance to track object.

  • The general ways of the anti-islanding can be classified into the active method and passive method. The passive method which use only the voltage information when power failure occurs has much possibility of the wrong detection. And the active method detects the change of the voltage frequency as instantaneously changing the frequency of the inverter output current. Therefore, in this paper, the method to inject arbitrary order harmonics into controlled current is proposed. In this method islanding can be detected by measuring the amount of load voltage of injected harmonics order. And as a current control method predictive control method is used, which make actual current accurately to track reference current by Instantaneously computing converter output voltage and has fast response in transient state. This parer proposed method was verified by simulation.
