  • The purposes of this study were to investigate Chinese female consumers' shopping orientation and clothing shopping behaviors on the internet and to find the differences in internet shopping behaviors of consumer groups segmented by clothing shopping orientation. The subjects were 417 women in their 20s and 30s from the Gillim Province, China. The research method was a survey, and the questionnaire consisted of a clothing shopping orientation subscale, clothing, their shopping behaviors via the internet, and the subjects' demographic characteristics. For data analysis, a frequency analysis, a cross-tab analysis, a factor analysis, a cluster analysis, ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple range test were performed. The results of this study were as follows. The clothing shopping orientation was derived using five factors (trend pursuit, pleasure pursuit, brand pursuit, economic pursuit, and convenience pursuit). Chinese female consumers were classified into three groups (hedonic group, ambivalent group, and practical group) by clothing shopping orientation. These three groups showed many significant differences in their clothing shopping behaviors on the internet. The hedonic group preferred the specialty and cross-border shopping malls, and considered product quality and trend as their main purchase motives. The ambivalent group considered the convenience of the purchase and trend as important motives as compared to the other groups, and they use more various product selection criteria. The practical group considered low price and convenience and the search simplicity of various products as major purchase motives. In addition, the hedonic and ambivalent groups had a higher purchase satisfaction and purchase intention from internet shopping than the practical group. This study suggested that clothing shopping orientation is one of the useful segmentation variables and fashion marketers needed to establish differentiated marketing strategies for each consumer group that is segmented by clothing shopping orientation.

  • Since 2009, consumers could access a new shopping channel called 'mobile shopping' with the generalization of smartphones. Mobile shopping (based on wireless communication technology), emphasizes convenience differentiated from internet shopping. A recent report introduced fashion products as powerful global drivers for mobile shopping sales. Korea and China have the highest percentage of consumer mobile shopping experiences compared to other countries. This study investigates the effects of cross-over shopping orientation, perception of app attributes, and flow on app loyalty that compared Korean and Chinese consumers. We obtained 652 usable questionnaires from two local college students; subsequently, data were analyzed by using factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, and regression analysis using SPSS 21.0 Package. The study results showed that the cross-over shopping orientation affected perception of app attributes that included Review/Information, Design, Response and Product. Product only affected Flow, which reflected a high similarity between Korean and Chinese consumers. However, Korean and Chinese consumers showed remarkable differences in the factors related to app loyalty. Therefore, the results indicate that retailers of fashion products have developed strategies to improve mobile sales and increase the app loyalty of cross-over shopping orientation consumers.

  • As consumers are increasingly shopping online for fashion products, their return behavior is also increasing. Regarding the factors affecting return behavior, this study explores the effect of the purchasing orientation considering returns that are derived from bracketing purchase behavior, monetary lenient return policies, and non-monetary lenient return policies. Additionally, this study examines the effect of monetary/non-monetary lenient return policies on return behavior, mediated by the purchasing orientation considering returns. This study was conducted through an online survey and 238 data were collected and used for analysis. Two research models were designed for each independent variable of monetary lenient return policies, and non-monetary lenient return policies, and the path of the research model was analyzed using Process Macro 4.0. The study found that the sub-dimensions of return policy - monetary or non-monetary return policies - had different effects on return behavior through purchasing orientation considering returns. Monetary lenient return policies had a positive direct effect on return behavior, and purchasing orientation considering returns mediated the effect of the monetary lenient return policies on return behavior. However, the non-monetary lenient return policies only positively and significantly directly affected return behavior. The findings of this study contribute to understanding consumers' purchasing orientation considering returns. Furthermore, from the effect of the return policy on return behavior, the results are valuable as they can help fashion marketers establish a return strategy.

  • This study explores the level of designer brands' market oriented attitude through a conceptual framework of market orientation. Designer brands have rapidly increased in the Korean fashion market with a competitive environment that pushes designers to improve market oriented attitudes and strategy. Designers working for 20 brands that the government designated as 'promising creative designer brands' were invited for in-depth interviews, 19 designers from 18 brands participated in this study. The generation of market intelligence that composes market orientation meant that the designers were confirmed to collecting different types of information according to information sources. They showed interest in collecting information on the exploration of design trends from overseas designers as well as operational and managerial information from domestic designers. Fashion-related stakeholders mainly collected feedback on design concepts from the press and public institutions. They collected customer feedback from buyers; however, appropriate feedback was inadequate. Designers generally appeared to place less value on the collection of customer responses and opinions; however, two groups of designers showed customer-oriented attitudes according to accumulated experience. The market-oriented attitude of top designers had an important role in designer brands; consequently, top designers should be properly trained to improve market-oriented attitudes to increase market performance.
