The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution state of road shops around the 9 main fashion trade areas in Seoul, and to analyze whether there were any differences in them based on clothing, store types and regions. Furthermore, by investigating the distribution state of road shops in the 9 main fashion trade areas per year, this study provides basic information that can be helpful in opening and securing road shops in major trade areas. The method of investigation was to analyze clothing types and store types with 72 maps of commercial areas. Samsungdesignnet investigated these areas for 8 years around the 9 main fashion trade areas (Garosugil, Gangnam nonhyun, Gangnam Station, Myungdong, Moonjung, Apgujung, Yeonsinne, Edae, and Chungdam). As a result, the distribution state of the fashion road shops based on clothing types revealed that road shops for ladies' wear, bag or shoes, and total fashion were strong, and the distribution state of non brand were strong. When it came to year-to-year trends, road shops for women's wear, bag or shoes, and total fashion showed a steady increasing tendency of being on-trend, but casuals and underwear showed a falling tendency of being on-trend. In terms of store type distribution, non-brand shops showed the most remarkable growth, followed by multi-shop while total fashion store showed a steady growth. Also, when it came to regional distribution, the dominant trade areas were different based on clothing type. Garosugil showed the widest variation in its yearly trend investigation, and Gangnam station also showed a substantial amount of growth. In other areas, there was no considerable change in the total number of shops, but increasing and decreasing markets had a complexity that depended on clothing types.
The purpose of this study is to provide information how to locate a apparel store based on target age, merchandise's type and price. Three trade areas in Seoul are chosen: Myeong-dong which is the biggest trade area in Korea; Kangnam station one of representative Kangnam trade areas; and Myeongil-Dong a neighborhood trade area. This study is mainly performed by analysing the locations of the stores in the given areas. The result shows that the main apparel stores in Myeong-dong are casual wear stores for young people with the range of mid-high price. The stores in Kangnam station trade area also sell the casual wear for young people but they are mostly mid-low priced. In the trade area of Myeongil-dong, however, there are various kinds of mid-priced apparel stores for residents of all ages. Apparel stores for formal wear, casual wear, and formal-casual wear tend to be located side by side. But other kinds do not. These results show that affinity is found in some types of apparel stores by the analysis of the next-door apparel stores.

Questionnaires were administered to 406 adults in their twenties and thirties visited major fashion trade area in Seoul. The results of the study were as follows. First, five groups were identified based on shopping orientation: combined value-oriented group, convenience-oriented group, hedonic value trend-oriented group, economic-value oriented group and brand-oriented group. Second, the most frequently visited trade area was Myungdong, and there were significant differences in the usage levels of the trade areas except Dongdaemun, Samsung station COEX, Jamsil and Gangnam Express Bus Terminal among the groups determined by shopping orientation. Sinsa Garosoogil, Apgujeong Chungdam and Samsung Station COEX were preferred by hedonic value trend-oriented group. Daehakro and Myungdong were preferred by combined value-oriented group and convenience-oriented group. Third, significant differences were also found in all groups in the preference factors of the trade area as determined by shopping orientation groups when purchasing clothing. Forth, female preferred Gangnam Express Bus Station and Jamsil than male did. Those who in their early twenties preferred Daehakro and Myungdong the most and those who in early thirties and late twenties concerned service policy the most. The results imply that the consumers tend to visit the nearest fashion trade area by their residence(or work, school) and consider the location and accessibility of the trade area as the most important factor.

There is an expanding global network of free trade agreements (FTA). High-quality, comprehensive free trade agreements play an important role to support global trade liberalization and are explicitly allowed under the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. An FTA is an international treaty that removes barriers to trade and facilitates stronger trade and commercial ties that contribute to increased economic integration between participating countries. Korea benefits from the global FTA trend; however it has started and developed FTA negotiations later than other countries. Current FTA agreements exist with Chile, Singapore, EFTA, ASIAN, India, EU, Peru, USA, Turkey, Australia, and Canada; in addition, there are ongoing negotiations with China, Colombia, New Zealand, and Vietnam. FTA open up opportunities for the textile/clothing industry to expand businesses into key overseas markets. FTA improve market access across all areas of trade to help maintain and stimulate the competitiveness of textile/clothing firms. This study examines the expansion of free trade agreements in light of changes in the international trade environment and the status of the Korean textile/clothing industry. Korea's textile/clothing export/import products and concession of tariff, country of origin covered under Korea-US/China FTA are investigated to identify problems. This study provides practical and policy implications for the textile/clothing industry in regards to the Korea-US/China FTA.

Since the mid 2000s, a large number of Chinese students have come to Korea to study. This study investigates the research trends of Chinese students studying in the fashion field in Korea. For this study, a total of 235 graduate degree theses on fashion written by Chinese students in Korea (from 1992 to 2014) were collected through the RISS website. Various keywords were used to find the theses, including fashion, clothing and costume. Factors used in the analysis of these theses were the number of theses per year, major of the student, research trend of specific areas and research target area. The results are as follows: Most of the theses were written by Fashion/Clothing majors (141 theses/60% of the total), while other majors - such as Business Administration, International Trade, Economics, Journalism/Broadcasting, and Movie Entertainment - made up the rest (94/40%). The theses researched in the study were focused on a specific field in fashion. Fashion Marketing/Socio-Psychology of Clothing was the most popular field (113/48.1%), and Fashion Design/Aesthetics came in second (87/37.0%). Other topics, such as Costume History, Clothing Construction/Textile Science, Costume Culture, followed. Chinese student's research target area was very limited, with Chinese Study being the most popular area, and Korean and Chinese Comparative Study coming in second.
