The Tehuanas costume is a traditional style of the city, Tehuantepec, located in the southeast of Mexico, which is characterized by colorful floral patterns and a long skirt. Three fashion concepts were derived from her fashion style: tradition & modern, love & farewell, and masculine & feminine. The scope of this study investigates the Haute Couture and the Pret-a-porter women's wear collections and photos from 1998 to 2010 in Europe, USA and South America. From classifying the collected photos into each concept, three styles such as ethnic, romantic and androgynous style were derived. • This study was initiated to add value to fashion illustration as a genre of plastic art, as its importance as a progressive visual art is growing. The research purpose is to analyze characteristics of Grotesque, a subculture that emerged from the challenges and problems of groups which deviated from social and cultural trends, and to develop fashion design illustration utilizing the characteristics unique to that subculture. As a method of research, this study examined the characteristics and expression methods of Grotesque, which appeared in fashion literature, referenced a prior study of Grotesque, and developed fashion design illustration using Grotesque as a based. The result of this study are as follows. First, the characteristics of Grotesque that are applicable to fashion illustration were derived as 'evil, aversion, playfulness, heterogeneity, and abnormality'. Second, the expressive elements of Grotesques, reflecting the beauty of ugliness, present a methodology for developing new and creative fashion design illustrations. Third, it was found that Grotesque fashion illustration is a visual tool that is suitable for expressing the problematic origins of human existence, values, alienation, and social chaos. Fourth, 'arthropod' motifs were identified as a suitable theme for extracting the newly integrated Grotesque images through the process of contradiction and confrontation between humans and objects. Fifth, the Grotesque fashion illustrations could be understood in terms of plastic arts, and could provide a gateway to rediscovering human dignity. Based on the finding, we expect that creative design thinking and development that combines the motifs of various themes and Grotesque's expressive methods will proceed more deeply and specifically.

  • The growth of domestic fashion industry market went sluggish affected by long-term slow growth and shrinking consumer sentiment since 2012, and the entire market has shown a slight growth since 2017. Yet only some conglomerates or global businesses experience this growth. Small and medium-sized fashion companies or rising fashion designers in South Korea, face real limitations and problems poor capital, lack of professional workforce, experience, information and educational opportunity as well as difficulty of acquiring distribution network, which lead to further polarization between conglomerates and small businesses. Thus, this study proposed mobile virtual viewer system-based collaborative application prototype capable of overcoming limitations and problems drawn by analyzing business environment of domestic brands launched by rising fashion designers. Especially, through applied template-based 3D virtual fashion design technology and performing the entire process in the virtual reality beyond spatial and temporal restraints, it is assumed that more effective and efficient outcomes can be obtained compared to the previous method.

  • Sustainability is an important topic within a variety of design areas, including fashion. The 'fast fashion' behavior of consumers is one of the big challenges that sustainable living faces. For the fashion industry, sustainability can be seen as a regulating ethos for higher quality and longer-lasting products, which I argue as embodying an intersection between sustainability and luxury. This study establishes a conceptual model for 'sustainable luxury' that can be implemented as a guide in the fashion design industry and education field. This paper will focus particularly on craft-based fashion within the industry. Through conceptual analysis and case studies, I analyze sustainable luxury through the scope of Soper's (2007) 'alternative hedonism', linking hedonic and selfidentity values as a foundation for the acceptance of and continued drive toward more sustainable luxury products. Unlike other studies which only emphasize the ecological and environmental aspects of sustainability, viz. green/eco design, this study explores sustainability as balanced with its four dimensions: environmental, economic, social, and cultural. Case studies will exemplify this redefined notion of sustainable luxury.

  • In order to expand the overseas market of the Korean fashion industry, it is necessary to investigate the fashion-related purchases and fashion consciousness of Muslim women, who are increasingly attracting attention as global fashion consumers. Therefore a survey was conducted to identify the fashion design preferences and fashion consciousness of Malaysian Muslim women. A total of 245 responses were collected and analyzed. The survey included questions on demographic characteristics, fashion product purchases, design preferences and environmental awareness. The data were analyzed through frequency, average and standard deviation. The analysis showed that the majority of respondents were young Malaysian Muslim women in their 20s and 30s. They preferred a modern, Sophisticated, and sporty image, and their preference for unpatterned fabrics was high. When choosing fashion products, these women seek to both pursue fashion trends and comply with Islamic laws. When the women buy clothes, they consider practicality and design elements. The women also collected fashion trend information through SNS and the Internet, and ues this information to purchase fashion products through the Internet and shopping malls. This study was based on a practical survey of local consumers. Therefore, it is expected that the results can be used as data for fashion-related studies and to expand overseas markets to reach Muslim women in Southeast Asia.

  • Convergence, a universal phenomenon in modern society, takes place in various ways throughout society, and the concept of convergence can also be observed in fashion shows. The concept of convergence is actively emerging in terms of fashion show directing. The purpose of this study is to suggest the development of fashion show directing by analyzing the convergence characteristics of fashion show directing through a Louis Vuitton fashion show, and to provide data on convergence in fashion shows. The object of the study is the women's Paris Pret-a-porter and women's cruise collection presented at the Louis Vuitton fashion show. The research method integrated the criteria for analysis and the characteristics of fashion show production through previous studies and a literature review. The characteristics of convergence production in Louis Vuitton fashion shows were identifeid through literature and visual data. In this study, the convergence of the Louis Vuitton fashion shows were divided into four categories: genre integration, sensory synesthesia, perspective diversification, and media scalability. First, the integration of genres enhanced the brand image and effectively conveyed the concept of the show. Second, the synesthesia of the senses expanded communication with the audience and increased the audience's immersion. It has also become a new way to experience fashion shows in person. Third, the diversity of perspectives changed and diversified the way audiences experienced fashion shows. Fourth, the scalability of the media means various ways in which the audience can experience fashion shows. Through this, it is possible to effectively convey information and experiences about fashion shows to the audience.

  • Due to the current seriousness of environmental pollution and the eco-friendly movement of the fashion industry, research on sustainable fashion design is being actively conducted. In this study, consumer perception of upcycling products, are divided into image, function, and meaning; and image is further divided into shape, color, and material. It was redefined as pattern, and image recognition was evaluated among men and women in their 20s and 30s, and men and women in their 40s and 50s used as subjects. First, factors that determine each image were extracted based on qualitative analysis of the precedent cases of upcycling bags, and quantitative analysis of the subjects was induced through a questionnaire. As a result of the analysis of evaluation items related to image association, the average frequency analysis of all subjects for each stimuli and the cognitive variance of the frequency analysis by generation by gender were found to be similar. However, awareness of some stimuli by generation showed a significant difference. Overall, in the three stimuli with high overall preference, common features, such as the basic box-shaped symmetrical structure, the monochromatic color of the Munsell system, solid and practical texture, and appropriate use of patterns were identified. In addition, it was confirmed that there was a difference with factors such as femininity, simplicity, touch, and splendor in the measurement factors. In conclusion, it is considered that the main significance of this study is that it excluded the recognition and meaning of upcycling products and explored the original design and image elements of products. Therefore, it is expected that this study will be used as a basic data for responding to the gender image of each generation as an alternative method of sustainable fashion design, and it will be an opportunity to expand the scope of the study to a detailed study beyond the biased topic.
