The aim of this study was to find typology of fashion-related mobile applications through exploratory investigation and to investigate differences in Korea and U.S. App stores. And then, through the qualitative evaluation about fashion mobile applications, this study proposes fashion mobile application's design and contents which can be preferred by users. By conducting keyword search in each store, 122 Korean applications and 150 US applications were analyzed. Empirical findings revealed that there were seven major types of fashion mobile applications: brand, magazine, information, SNS, game, shopping and coordination. Information type applications took up the largest portion, and SNS and game type applications showed higher ranking among customers. There were more game Apps in US and more shopping Apps in Korean stores. More free Apps were found in Korean App stores, whereas relatively more paid Apps were found in US App stores especially in game, magazine and information type applications. And as a result of usability evaluation of fashion mobile application, users prefer SNS and information category application to shopping and brand category. Also users want continuous improvement and new contents for fashion mobile application.
The application demand has been rapidly increasing along the growth of smart devices. Companies actively use the application as marketing tools. In particular, fashion businesses expect the improvement of customer loyalty and brand image by using the applications as the communication channel with consumers. This paper investigated the relationship between mobile shopping motives and mobile shopping acceptance. Influence of such variables on perceived importance of various fashion application attributes was also accessed. Data from male and female respondents were analyzed for the empirical study. Results indicated that mobile shopping motives were classified into convenience, ubiquity, impulsiveness and economic motives. Fashion application attribute was classified into contents, continuous management, design/visibility, downloading and community. Mobile shopping motives had significant correlation with fashion application acceptance. Shopping motives and fashion application acceptance had significant impacts on perceived importance of various fashion application attributes.
This study aims to analyze the representation forms of bloggers' personal style on the fashion blogs and enlighten their values which can be actively applied to design and marketing in fashion industry. Image representation of fashion bloggers is reflected by the characteristics in the digital environment, which are the creative manipulation of expression and the production of virtual and fantastic images by taking advantage of the composite medium such as images, music, videos, articles, etc. Also real time updates in blog indicate the latest trends in terms of the representation of image as the actual currency. The study conducted case studies of 5 women's personal fashion blogs through the verification of a variety of global fashion media and blog ranking sites: Style Bubble, Style Rookie, The Cherry Blossom Girl, The Blond Salad, and Fashion Toast. Research findings are as follows. First, the application of creative design elements is indicated as symbolic items, self-made designs, DIY, and various mix and match emphasizing design elements such as color, patterns, proportion, etc. Second, the virtual representation is very highlighted on the story telling applied by film like production or digital effect. Third, the commercial application with mainly sponsored wardrobe and designer collaboration indicates promoting a updated trend as well as a specific brand or designer to make their business profits.
The growth of domestic fashion industry market went sluggish affected by long-term slow growth and shrinking consumer sentiment since 2012, and the entire market has shown a slight growth since 2017. Yet only some conglomerates or global businesses experience this growth. Small and medium-sized fashion companies or rising fashion designers in South Korea, face real limitations and problems poor capital, lack of professional workforce, experience, information and educational opportunity as well as difficulty of acquiring distribution network, which lead to further polarization between conglomerates and small businesses. Thus, this study proposed mobile virtual viewer system-based collaborative application prototype capable of overcoming limitations and problems drawn by analyzing business environment of domestic brands launched by rising fashion designers. Especially, through applied template-based 3D virtual fashion design technology and performing the entire process in the virtual reality beyond spatial and temporal restraints, it is assumed that more effective and efficient outcomes can be obtained compared to the previous method.
The importance of marketing on mobile platforms as well as mobile commerce is increasing dramatically in fashion industry. The purpose of this study was to categorize mobile fashion marketing strategies and to examine application usage motivations that influence brand attitude, purchase decisions, and post-purchase evaluation. Qualitative research methods, in particular focus-groups and in-depth interviews, were conducted to examine the typology of mobile marketing and fashion application usage motivations. Then, a modified survey was used to quantitatively examine what content consumers expect from fashion applications. Results of the qualitative study indicated that consumers perceive sensory (visual, tactile, auditory), relationship, information and practical marketing strategies through motives. Survey result from 229 consumers revealed four fashion application usage motives: sensory, relationship, information and practical. Based on these motives consumers were segmented into three groups: the experience/relationship-conscious, the product information-conscious, and the lifestyle information-conscious. The product information-conscious group showed higher level of monthly income and clothing expenses but lower level of mobile device usages. Lifestyle information-conscious group and experience/relationship-conscious group had higher level of attitude, and post-purchase evaluation. It was experience-relationship conscious consumers who spent more time in mobile use. This study shows a better understanding of mobile marketing environment of fashion applications.

This study investigates fashion Artificial Intelligence (AI) curation services to expand sustainable consumption. We analyzed the factors that affect the AI fashion curation service experience of women in their 20s and 30s using their clothes. An online survey was conducted from March 29, 2021, to June 4, 2021, for women of the previously mentioned age groups residing in the metropolitan area. Before answering the questionnaire, they installed the "Style Bot" application on their phone, took five or more photos of their clothes according to the manual provided by the application, stored them in a virtual wardrobe on the application, and then responded to the questionnaire using the AI recommended coordinating function. The effect of the properties of fashion AI curation service application on the use of clothes was investigated. Among the attributes of the fashion AI curation service application, convenience, speed, and usefulness were found to have a positive effect on the use of clothes, and promptness had no effect. Second, regarding the impact of clothing utilization on environmental sustainability, clothing utilization was found to have a positive effect on environmental sustainability. Third, environmental sustainability was found to have a positive effect on satisfaction. Fourth, clothing utilization had a positive effect on satisfaction. Thus, fashion AI curation service would help promote service development so that clothes could be used actively through an in-depth understanding of the properties of these services. Finally, the results of this study would contribute to promoting environmental sustainability.
The field of textile and fashion is regard to be sensitive to trend, however, the professional fashion information planning company for trend forecasting has not settled down in Korea. This study was designed to propose systemizing for fashion trend information planning in domestic fashion information service market. The empirical research was conducted by analysing in-depth interview data and news-scrap contents about each fashion information planning company. The result are as follows; First, fashion information service showed a little difference according to the type of fashion information companies, but they provided not only general fashion trends but also external market environmental information, survey-based consumer information and various segmented market research reports including academic information. Second, the fashion information planning process is largely divided into 3 stages; trend analysis, trend forecasting, trend application. The trend application step is the stage which connects the fashion information service industry to the fashion business. Thirdly, as a result of the competitive power evaluation for fashion information planning, the domestic fashion information planning companies came to reveal the fact that the possibility of carrying out and information analysis power were weak, however, how to present trend information had a relatively competitive. Consequently, this study is expected to play a role in understanding the importance of fashion trend information, and further ahead it would be helpful to organize the curriculum of fashion information planning subject in order to educate the future fashion executives.
As smartphones permeate the consumer lifestyle, branded application and mobile shopping have also received increased attention as an important marketing channel. This study identifies the general information about the use of smartphones, attitudes toward fashion applications, and mobile shopping intentions for smartphone users. Focus group interviews were conducted and 22 interviewees participated. The age of the participants ranged from 21 to 45 years old (55% were females). When examining the motivation to adopt a smartphone, respondents presented the comparable characteristics of early adopters and late adopters according to the time of adoption. Most respondents over the age of 30 showed some troubles to use a smartphone; however, participants in their 20s tended to enjoy exploring the new technology. More than half of respondents were aware of fashion applications, but were dissatisfied with fashion apps and used them infrequently. Respondents pointed out that fashion related apps were not too practical because they were not updated regularly, provided only limited information, and focused on brand promotions. In order to increase the intention to adopt mobile shopping, the price and payment security system needs to be considered. This was an exploratory study to identify the possibility of fashion branded apps as a major distribution channel. The findings of this study provide fundamental information to formulate marketing strategies for fashion businesses that have developed fashion apps.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the application of fashion-related web sites and their evaluation. 76 college students major in fashion design were surveyed and the evaluation criteria were classified into five categories such as the accuracy/reliability, the design of a picture, the ease of application, the communication/security, and additional services. The results of this study were as follows: 1. College students used web sites mostly to search for fashion trend information from magazine and fashion information sites. 2. While the media site was excellent in the evaluation criteria such as the accuracy/reliability, the design of a picture and the communication/security, the fashion information site was excellent in the evaluation criteria such as the accuracy/reliability, communication/ security and additional services. 3. The media site and the fashion information site generally ranked high and the fashion brand site ranked low in most evaluation items. 4. By the results of ANOVA, 12 items showed significant differences out of the total 19 items. 5. Out of the total evaluation items, the design of a picture ranked highest and the external link function ranked lowest.
It was proved the practical use of the unique traditional Korean paper through the previous researches. The purpose of this study was to suggest the adequate application which is making various applied patterns in the fashion products so as to contribute to textile, fashion, and Korean paper industry. Six kinds of vests with the same fashion material using the Korean traditional paper were manufactured in order to investigate the images of materials in case of wearing them on the actual human bodies. As the results of image assessment for the materials and the factor analysis, 'classical', 'natural', 'Korean traditional', 'rural' and 'luxury' images were presented as the representative image of the Korean traditional paper material. Making repeated patterns of stripes and zigzag by sewing-machine stitches showed the natural effect on Korean traditional paper. Well-matched harmony was shown between holes made by the needle in sewing and slits torn by the tension to the needle and the thread. Especially, transparency by irregular holes formed by artificial frictional washing could shown special formative arts harmoniously with semi-transparency of Korea traditional paper and touch of sewing yarn. After the unripe persimmon dyeing, holes made by the needle became more hard and tight. The changes were no longer shown by the artificial frictional washing and then fixed. As the result of applying the Korean traditional paper fashion materials with various patterns for the basic formed garments, it was shown that the common and simple garments were changed the garments with special formation which could be found on the art garments due to the creative touch and formative arts using the Korea traditional paper fashion material. A variety of formative application by means of the developed samples was suggested to enlarge the practicality. As the result of this study, it was discovered that the possibility and application of fashion goods through the developed samples made of Korean traditional paper.
