  • The WiMedia alliance has specified a distributed medium access control (WiMedia MAC) protocol based on ultra wideband (UWB) for high data rate WPANs (HR-WPANs). The merits of WiMedia MAC such as distributed nature and high data rate make it a favorite candidate in HR-WPAN. Although QoS parameters such as the range of service rates are provided to a traffic stream, the WiMedia MAC is not able to use the QoS parameters and to determine or adjust a service rate using the QoS parameters for the traffic stream. In this paper, we propose a fair and adaptive resource allocation method that allocates time slots to isochronous streams according to QoS parameters and the current traffic load condition in a fully distributed manner. Although the traffic load condition changes, each device independently recognizes the changes and calculates fair and maximum allowable service rates for traffic streams. From the numerical and simulation results, it is proved that the proposed method achieves high capacity of traffic streams and fair QoS provisioning under various traffic load condition.

  • Nowadays the fair queuing field is studied actively for solving the unfair queuing problem which degrades the service performance of various applications on network. Above all DRR is a scheme that has lower work complexity and can be implemented easily. It guarantees the fair service by serving each queue every round Service Quantum(SQ) that includes the service deficit of the previous round. But it increases the delay by the numbers of unnecessary resetting of SQ or round circulation for the service that have the packet size over maximum several kbyte. In this paper, We propose the method that sets SQ dynamically to minimize this problem and the method that minimizes the work complexity on processing of packet. The proposed scheme minimizes the delay on various applications in enterprise environment by setting SQ dynamically and processing the packet simply.

  • In order to provide appropriate Quality of Service(QoS) guarantee to each traffic flow in intergrated service networks, an efficient traffic scheduling algorithm as well as resource reservation must be adopted in host and transit routers. In this paper, a new efficient fair queueing algorithm which adopts a linearly increasing virtual time is presented. The proposed algorithm is fair and the maximum and mean delay guaranteed of each flow are less than those of the SCFQ(self clocked fair queueing) algorithm which is one of the most promising traffic scheduling algorithm, while providing low implementation complexity as the SCFQ scheme. And, it has the better isolation provided than SCFQ, which means that each flow is much less influenced by the violating traffic flows provided its allocated bandwidth gurantee. The fairness of the proposed algorithm is proved and simulation results of maximum and mean delay presented.

  • Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR), recently approved by the ATM Forum, expects to become an important service category to efficiently support TCP/IP traffic in ATM networks. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum service rate at the frame level, but also supports a fair share of available bandwidth. We proposed new scheduling scheme for the GFR service. Proposed scheme provides priority to VCs and high priority to a VC which have more untagged cells in buffer. High priority VCs have much more serviced than low priority. Proposed scheme can provide MCR(minimum cell rate) guarantee and fair sharing to GFR VCs. Computer simulation results show that proposed scheduling scheme provide a much better performance in TCP goodput and fairness than previous scheme.

  • Fair queueing has been an important issue in the multimedia networks where resources are shared among nodes both wired and wireless. In most fair queuing algorithms, based on the generalized processor sharing(GPS), emphasizes fairness guarantee while overlooking bounded delay guarantee which is critical to support multimedia services in the networks. In this paper, we propose a new fair queueing scheme, delay guaranteed fair queueing (DGFQ), which guaranteeing bounded delay of flows according to their individual delay requirements for multimedia services in the wireless packet networks.

  • Recently, interest in fair tourism and demand for this service has been steadily increasing. This study examined the tourists' perceptions of their fair tourism experiences. Phenomenological method was adopted as a qualitative research approach. Participants were nine adults who were interviewed in depth on their experiences of fair tourism. Data analysis led to the emergence of seven categories (sharing and volunteerism, environment and animal protection, tourism created together, communication and relationship, from consumption to experience, ethicality and fairness, contemplating life) and 21 subcategories. This research was a significant step in providing options to explore the improvement of ethical-tourism and may have implications for the future development of tourism. This study also has various implications for tour operators, consumers, and government. In future all stakeholders should make efforts to establish the tour culture which encourages consumers to consider the ethicality and fairness of their choices as tourists.

  • Since real-time multimedia applications requiring duality-of-service guarantees are spreading over mobile and wireless networks, energy efficiency in wireless channels is becoming more important. Energy consumption in the channels can be reduced with decreasing the rate of scheduler's outgoing link by means of Dynamic Modulation Scaling (DMS). This paper proposes a fair queuing algorithm, termed Rate Efficient Fair Queuing (REFQ), in order to reduce the outgoing link's rate, which is based on the Latency-Optimized Fair Queuing algorithm developed to enhance Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ). The performance evaluation result shows that REFQ does decrease the link rate by up to 35% in comparison with that in WFQ, which results in reducing the energy consumption by up to 90% when applied to the DMS based radio modem.

  • In this paper, a cross-layer resource allocation mechanism is proposed for wireless multimedia service. In particular, a game theory based on quality of service (QoS) for multimedia users is introduced to deal with the fairness of network resource allocation in wireless networks. Moreover, the channel states of wireless users are additionally regarded under the cross-layer design in WiMAX environment. In details, the bargaining solution is adopted to discover the efficient and fair resource allocation strategy for multimedia service in considering QoS in the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and the channel states in the carrier-to-interface ratio (CINR). The proposed mechanism is illustrated and evaluated by simulation results of transmitting video sequences in WiMAX environment.

  • WFQ(Weighted Fair Queuing) is the most popular fair queuing algorithm to guarantee the Quality-of-Service(QoS), but it has the inherent drawback of a poor resource utilization, particularly under the low rate traffic requiring a tight delay bound. It was recently identified that the poor utilization is mainly due to non-optimized latency of a traffic flow and then LOFQ(Latency-Optimized Fair Queuing) to overcome the drawback was introduced. The LOFQ algorithm, however, renews their optimal latencies for all flows whenever a new flow arrives, which results in the high implementation complexity of O($N^2$).This paper is to reduce thecomplexity to O(1). The proposed method is first to derive the optimal latency index function from the statistical QoS characteristics of the offered load, and then to simply calculate the optimal latency index of the arriving flow using the function.
