  • There are numerous emotions in the human world. Human expresses and recognizes their emotion using various channels. The example is an eye, nose and mouse. Particularly, in the emotion recognition from facial expression they can perform the very flexible and robust emotion recognition because of utilization of various channels. Hybrid-feature extraction algorithm is based on this human process. It uses the geometrical feature extraction and the color distributed histogram. And then, through the independently parallel learning of the neural-network, input emotion is classified. Also, for the natural classification of the emotion, advancing two-dimensional emotion space is introduced and used in this paper. Advancing twodimensional emotion space performs a flexible and smooth classification of emotion.

  • In this paper, we propose an automatic recognition algorithm using the object centroid of a facial image. First, we separate the facial image from the background image using the chroma-key technique and we find the centroid of the separated facial image. Second, we search nose in the facial image based on knowledge of human faces and the coordinate of the object centroid and, we calculate 17 feature parameters automatically. Finally, we recognize the facial image by using feature parameters in the neural networks which are trained through error backpropagation algorithm. It is illustrated by experiments by experiments using the proposed recogniton system that facial images can be recognized in spite of the variation of the size and the position of images.

  • In this paper, we proposed a face recognition network which attempts to use more facial features awhile using smaller number of training sets. When combining the neural network together for face recognition, we want to use networks that use different part of the facial features. However, the network training chooses randomly where these facial features are obtained. Other hand, the judgment basis of the network model can be expressed as a saliency map through gradCAM. Therefore, in this paper, we use gradCAM to visualize where the trained face recognition model has made a observations and recognition judgments. Thus, the network combination can be constructed based on the different facial features used. Using this approach, we trained a network for small face recognition problem. In an simple toy face recognition example, the recognition network used in this paper improves the accuracy by 1.79% and reduces the equal error rate (EER) by 0.01788 compared to the conventional approach.

  • This paper introduces an appearance-based facial expression recognition method using ASM landmarks which is used to acquire a detailed face region. In particular, EHMM-based algorithm and SVM classifier with histogram feature are employed to appearance-based facial expression recognition, and performance evaluation of proposed method was performed with CK and JAFFE facial expression database. In addition, performance comparison was achieved through comparison with distance-based face normalization method and a geometric feature-based facial expression approach which employed geometrical features of ASM landmarks and SVM algorithm. As a result, the proposed method using ASM-based face normalization showed performance improvements of 6.39% and 7.98% compared to previous distance-based face normalization method for CK database and JAFFE database, respectively. Also, the proposed method showed higher performance compared to geometric feature-based facial expression approach, and we confirmed an effectiveness of proposed method.

  • The existing video expression recognition methods mainly focus on the spatial feature extraction of video expression images, but tend to ignore the dynamic features of video sequences. To solve this problem, a multi-mode convolution neural network method is proposed to effectively improve the performance of facial expression recognition in video. Firstly, OpenFace 2.0 is used to detect face images in video, and two deep convolution neural networks are used to extract spatiotemporal expression features. Furthermore, spatial convolution neural network is used to extract the spatial information features of each static expression image, and the dynamic information feature is extracted from the optical flow information of multiple expression images based on temporal convolution neural network. Then, the spatiotemporal features learned by the two deep convolution neural networks are fused by multiplication. Finally, the fused features are input into support vector machine to realize the facial expression classification. Experimental results show that the recognition accuracy of the proposed method can reach 64.57% and 60.89%, respectively on RML and Baum-ls datasets. It is better than that of other contrast methods.

  • Many researches have been performed for human recognition and coding schemes recently. For this situation, we propose an automatic facial feature extraction algorithm. There are two main steps: the face region evaluation from original background image such as office, and the facial feature extraction from the evaluated face region. In the face evaluation, Genetic Algorithm is adopted to search face region in background easily such as office and household in the first step, and Template Matching Method is used to extract the facial feature in the second step. We can extract facial feature more fast and exact by using over the proposed Algorithm.

  • We Present a technique for recognizing facial expressions from image sequences. The technique uses muscle-based feature models for tracking facial features. Since the feature models are constructed with a small number of parameters and are deformable in the limited range and directions, each search space for a feature can be limited. The technique estimates muscular contractile degrees for classifying six principal facial express expressions. The contractile vectors are obtained from the deformations of facial muscle models. Similarities are defined between those vectors and representative vectors of principal expressions and are used for determining facial expressions.

  • This paper reconstructs local region of a facial expression image from extracted feature points of facial expression image using FCM(Fuzzy C-Meang) clustering algorithm with Gabor wavelets. The feature extraction in a face is two steps. In the first step, we accomplish the edge extraction of main components of face using average value of 2-D Gabor wavelets coefficient histogram of image and in the next step, extract final feature points from the extracted edge information using FCM clustering algorithm. This study presents that the principal components of facial expression images can be reconstructed with only a few feature points extracted from FCM clustering algorithm. It can also be applied to objects recognition as well as facial expressions recognition.

In this paper, we propose an Advanced AAM that is improved version of proposed Facial Expression Recognition Systems based on Bayesian Network by using FACS and AAM. This is a study about the most efficient method of optimal facial feature area for human emotion recognition about random user based on generalized HCI system environments. In order to perform such processes, we use a Statistical Shape Analysis at the normalized input image by using Advanced AAM and FACS as a facial expression and emotion status analysis program. And we study about the automatical emotional feature extraction about random user.

  • This letter presents a new feature extraction method based on the private energy map (PEM) technique to utilize the energy characteristics of a facial image. Compared with a non-facial image, a facial image shows large energy congestion in special regions of discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients. The PEM is generated by energy probability of the DCT coefficients of facial images. In experiments, higher face recognition performance figures of 100% for the ORL database and 98.8% for the ETRI database have been achieved.
