AM80 마그네슘 합금의 미세조직 및 기계적 특성에 대한 압출조건의 영향 (Effect of Extrusion Conditions on Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of AM80 Magnesium Alloys)

  • This study investigated the effect of extrusion conditions on microstructures and mechanical properties of AM80 magnesium alloys. The billets of magnesium alloy used for hot extrusion were prepared by permanent mold casting method, and its extrusion was hot direct extrusion with different extrusion conditions. The results of microstructural analysis showed that the main phases in the as-casted alloys were ${\alpha}-Mg$, ${\beta}-Mg_{17}Al_{12}$, and lamella $Mg_{17}Al_{12}$. Hot extrusion results, The tensile strength of the most soundly manufactured extruded bars (extrusion temp: $350^{\circ}C$, extrusion ratio: 27:1, ram speed: 2mm/s) was approximately 327MPa at room temperature. The increase in the mechanical properties of hot-extruded alloys was as a result of grain refinement by dynamical recrystallization during hot extrusion.

The Effects of Extrusion Cooking and Milling on the Instant Properties of Wheat Powders

  • Instant powders that only require mixing with water prior to consumption can be produced by extrusion for use in products such as instant beverages. Both extrusion processing conditions and particle size of powder are important to end-product characteristics. In this study, a twin-screw extruder was used under various processing conditions (feed moisture, barrel temperature, and screw speed) to produce extrudates from soft wheat flour, which were ground to powders with particle size ranges of less than 93, 93-145, and $145-249\;{\mu}m$. Effects of adding soy lecithin to wheat flour before extrusion were also investigated. Water absorption, solubility, suspension viscosity, and dispersibility of wheat powders were related to specific. mechanical energy measured during extrusion. Powder particle size was important to instant properties, especially ease of dispersal in water and stability to sedimentation. Addition of lecithin significantly improved dispersibility of powders.

Influence of Extrusion on the Solubility of Defatted Soybean Flour in Enzymatic Hydrolysis

  • Low-energy processing technology, which enhances the utility of defatted soybean flour (DSF), was developed using extrusion processing. DSF was extruded at different conditions using a twin screw extruder and then, dried at $40^{\circ}C$ for 20 hr. The nitrogen solubility index (NSI), viscosity, water solubility index (WSI), and water absorption index (WAI) of DSF increased after extrusion processing. The density of DSF extrudates decreased with the decrease in water content from 53 to 33% and the increase in extrusion temperature from 110 to $160^{\circ}C$. The addition of NaOH from 1.2 to 1.8% and citric acid from 1 to 5% increased the total solubility (TS) of DSF due to the decrease of protein coiling and hydrophobic bonds formation during extrusion processing. When viscozyme was reacted first, TS, NSI, and soluble carbohydrate content of DSF hydrolysates increased about 12, 6, and 7%, respectively, compared to them reacted with protease first. The TS and NSI of DSF hydrolysates were increased about 15 and 10%, respectively, by extrusion processing at alkaline and acidic pH. Extrusion processing at alkaline and acidic pH contributed the increase of efficiency to hydrolyze DSF samples using enzyme.

복합압출재료봉의 공정변수가 성형 적합성에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Process Parameters on the Forming Compatibility in Composite Extrusion Rods)

  • This paper presents the plastic inhomogeneous deformation behavior of bimetal composite rods during the axisymmetric and steady-state extrusion process through a conical die. The rigid-plastic FE model considering frictional contact problem was used to analyze the co-extrusion process with material combinations of Cu/Al. Different cases of initial geometry shape for composite material were simulated under different conditions of co-extrusion process, which includes the interference and frictional conditions. From the simulation results, the sleeve cladding rate at the core/sleeve interface was recorded as a distribution of diameter ratio and interference conditions, which will be useful for the investigations of the bonding process during co-extrusion process. In addition, the results of the co-extrusion, connected with the results of the variations of diameter rate and average contact pressure, demonstrate a good agreement and present the possibility of describing the parameters of the plastic zones in non-uniform deformation of these type of composite materials.

  • Chevron crack in cold extrusion has been studied in view of deformation conditions and material characteristics. There is V formed chevron crack is occasionally occurred in core part of shaft by multistage free extrusion. Although many research results were reported and theoretical analyses were accompanied, in this study we discussed practical method to prevent chevron crack in the field of working conditions and material characteristics. We have found that chevron crack is eliminated under condition of high hydrostatic state in deformation and decreased segregation, refinement of micro structure of materials.

Effects of Extrusion Conditions on Pasting Properties of Potato

  • An advantage to the extrusion of raw potatoes is a reduction in the energy input required to process potato products; however, the effects of extrusion on the properties of raw potato have not been studied. The purposes of this study were to develop a workable extrusion process for raw potato and to study the effects of extrusion conditions on the pasting properties of extruded potato products. The peak viscosity, final viscosity, pasting temperature, water solubility index, and water absorption index of pressed and pressed-dried potato extrudates decreased as die exit temperature increased, whereas they did not change as screw speed increased. The peak viscosity, final viscosity, and water solubility of steam-cooked potato products decreased with extrusion processing; however, they did not change with increasing die exit temperature and screw speed. Potato products with different degrees of depolymerization of extruded potato starch, depending on die exit temperature, were produced from raw potatoes.

  • In this present study, an attempt was made to determine the deformation mode of the Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be bulk metallic glass by compression test over a wide range of temperatures and strain rates. From the results, empirical deformation map could be constructed including the boundaries of different deformation modes. Considering power dissipation map and instability map developed on the basis of the Dynamic Materials Model (DMM), the processing map for extrusion could also be constructed. In addition, the macroscopic formability of this BMG alloy has also been examined through the extrusion in laboratory scale within undercooled liquid state. From the results of macroscopic extrusion formability, both deformation map and processing map present good criteria to determine optimal forming conditions.

  • Bulk plastic forming characteristics were studied for the magnesium alloy, AZ31 in warm backward extrusion. Effects of process conditions such as extrusion ratio, forming temperature, and punching speed were investigated respectively. Variation of microstructure induced by the warm backward extrusion process was observed. Microstructure of the work piece showed evidences of recrystallization under the experiment conditions. It is estimated that in specific punch speed region fast stroke accelerates recrystllization and reduces the forming load.

  • Porthole die extrusion has a great advantage in the forming of long hollow section tubes. It is difficult to produce long hollow section tubes with complicated section by the conventional extrusion process with a mandrel on the stem Because of the limit of the length of mandrel and the complexity of cross section. Porthole die extrusion is affected by many parameters, such as extrusion ratio, extrusion speed, die geometry, porthole number, bearing length etc. Up to now, most of studies about porthole die extrusion have been investigated by experiments or steady state FE-analysis. However, in this paper, porthole die extrusion is analysed by the unsteady state 3D FE-simulation. And the result of unsteady state analysis is compared with the experimental result. Also, the surface state of extruded tubes are examined for the various process conditions.

이중봉 정수압 압출의 실용적 유한요소해석 모델 (A Practical Finite Element Analysis Model for Hydrostatic Extrusion of a Biaxial Bar)

  • A new finite element model for the hydrostatic extrusion of a biaxial bar is introduced. In this model, a penalty contact algorithm, which is adopted to replace the traction boundary conditions due to the fluid in the container of the extruder, is incorporated into a consistent penalty finite element formulation for the viscoplastic deformation of a work piece during hydrostatic extrusion. Two parameters, introduced in the penalty contact algorithm in this study, a critical penalty contact pressure $P_0$ and a critical penalty contact distance $D_c$, are carefully examined for various process conditions. The proposed finite element model is applied to the hydrostatic extrusion of a Cu-clad Al bar. The extrusion loads and thickness ratios of the clad materials by the proposed model are compared in detail to values from experiments reported in the literature. Finally, it is concluded that the proposed finite element model is useful in practical implementations.
