압출성형을 위한 마찰수식 모델에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Numerical Friction Model for the Extrusion)

  • To carry out perfectly the forming analysis of the extruding products, it is necessary that the friction boundary condition between dies and blanks should be worked out the accuate numerical friction models. But the numerical friction models adapting in the conventional Extrusion forming software may be large different from the actual conditions. Expecially, the use of the existing extrusion forming software is possible only in the limitted range owing to the unaccuracy of the high speed forming work. Therefore, tile prepare of this study is to develop the numerical friction model which describes the friction boundary condition mathematically well, to improve the accuracy of the extrusion farming analysis, and finally to expand the applying areas of the results.

Zr계 벌크 비정질 합금의 변형 모드와 압출 특성의 상관 관계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Deformation Mode and Extrusion Properties for Zr-based Bulk Metallic Glass)

  • In this present study, an attempt was made to determine the deformation mode of the Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be bulk metallic glass by compression test over a wide range of temperatures and strain rates. From the results, empirical deformation map could be constructed including the boundaries of different deformation modes. Considering power dissipation map and instability map developed on the basis of the Dynamic Materials Model (DMM), the processing map for extrusion could also be constructed. In addition, the macroscopic formability of this BMG alloy has also been examined through the extrusion in laboratory scale within undercooled liquid state. From the results of macroscopic extrusion formability, both deformation map and processing map present good criteria to determine optimal forming conditions.

  • Lots of products are made in various working conditions, depending on the size and the shape of them. Usually, at first, the die for new items had been designed on the basis of experience and know-how, and then modified through trial and error. At a die design stage most of drawings have been drawn manually. Recently some forging companies save design time by repeated utilization of standardized parts with registered data base. In this study the automated die design technique for forward extrusion of axisymmetric products is developed. A standardized die system is proposed from the investigation of ones employed frequently in the metal forming field and the design rules for cold extrusion die. A design example of forward extrusion die is given and discussed.

  • A shape optimization of flow guide is accomplished to minimize the wear rate of die in three-dimensional flat-die extrusion processes. In order to achieve the balanced flow and the uniformed distribution of the effective strain during the extrusion, a multi-objective optimization is implemented. During the process of optimization formulation, the flow balance and the deviation of strain is considered as constrained conditions. The proposed approach is applied to an extrusion of H section. Through the optimization, it has been confirmed that the wear rate of die can be minimized satisfying the constraint.

상하 컵형인 전후방압출공정에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study in the Forward-Backward Extrusion for the Cup-Cup shape)

  • In the simultaneous forward-backward extrusion the effects of some process variables including area reduction, stroke advance, materials(Al 2024 and commercial pure copper) on the extrusion load, plastic flow and height ratio of upper to lower extruded parts are experimentally investigated and analyzed. Grid-marking technique is employed to visualize the plastic flow. The influence of using split and original specimen on the extrusion load and height ratio is evaluated by experiments. Experimental results show that the plastic flow if oriented to the part of lower area reduction in the begining but it is usually variated during the overall process. The configurations of plastic deformation and plastic flow are dependent on the working materials and the lubricational conditions.

  • This paper was designed to fabricate the micro-spur gear by the LIGA and hybrid powder extrusion process. It is important to manufacture a micro-die with a high aspect ratio and determine appropriate extrusion conditions for a microforming. Ni has been used to fabricate micro-dies. LIGA process was capable to produce micro-extrusion dies with close tolerance, longer bearing length and adequate surface quality. Superplastic Al-78Zn powders have the great advantage in achieving deformation under low stresses and exhibiting good micro-formability with average strain rate raging from $10^{-3}$ to $10^{-2} s^{-1}$ and constant temperature ranging from 503 to 563K. Al-78Zn powders were compacted into a cylindrical shape ($\Phi3\times$h10mm) under compressive force of 10kN and, subsequently, the compacted powders were extruded by the hybrid powder extrusion process controlling of the temperature holing time for a improvement on formability of Al-22Zn powder. Micro-extrusion has succeeded in forming micro-gear shafts.

Flow Analysis of Profile Extrusion by a Modified Cross-sectional Numerical Method

  • Flow analysis of profile extrusion is essential for design and production of a profile extrusion die. Velocity, pressure, and temperature distribution in an extrusion die are predicted and compared with the experimental results. A two dimensional numerical method is proposed for three dimensional analysis of the flow field within the profile extrusion die by applying a modified cross-sectional numerical method. Since the cross-sectional shape of the die is varied gradually, it is assumed that the pressure is constant within a cross-sectional plane that is perpendicular to the flow direction. With this assumption, the velocity component in the cross-sectional direction is neglected. The exact cross-sectional shape at any position is calculated based on the geometry of standard cross-sections. The momentum and energy equations are solved with proper boundary conditions at a cross-section and then the same calculation is carried out for the next cross-section using the current calculated values. An L-shaped profile extrusion die is produced and employed for experimental investigation using a commercially available polypropylene. Numerical prediction for the varying cross-sectional shape provides better results than the previous studies and is in good agreement with the experimental results.

스낵제조를 위한 보리의 압출성형공정 (Extrusion Process of Barley Flour for Snack Processing)

  • 스낵가공을 위한 보리의 압출성형특성을 조사하였고 가공조건이 제품의 품질에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 압출성형을 위한 원료 보리의 적정 수분함량은 20%였으며 extrudate의 수분함량은 extrusion 온도가 증가할수록 die 크기가 감소할수록 낮았으며 Harper의 실험식에 의한 예측수분함량과 잘 일치하였다. Die swell은 0.98-2.18 정도의 값을 나타내었으며, $150^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 온도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. Extrudate의 밀도는 온도가 높을수록 die 크기가 작을수록 감소하였다. 또한 색택은 온도가 증가함에 따라 L, a, b 치가 큰 값을 나타내었다. 흡수율과 용해율은 $180^{\circ}C$에서 최대치를 나타내었으며 호화도는 온도가 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. Extrudate의 파괴응력, 영률, 최대응력은 온도가 높을수록 die 크기가 작을수록 감소하였으며 파괴점까지의 변형은 반대양상을 나타내었다. 또한 온도가 증가함에 따라 extrudate의 내부기공의 크기 및 비율이 증가하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 볼때, 보리 스낵가공을 위한 최적 extrusion 조건은 스크류 회전속도 160 rpm에서 원료수분함량 20%, 온도 $180^{\circ}C$, die 크기 4.5 mm인 경우이었다.

  • Composite material consists of more than two materials and make various kinds of composite materials by combining different single materials. Copper clad aluminum composite material is composed of Al and Cu, and it has already been put to practical use in Europe because of its economic benefits. This paper presents the interface bonding according to the variation of extrusion ratio and semi-angle die by observing the interface between Cu and Al using metal microscope. By that result, we can predict the conditions of the interface bonding according to the extruding conditions.

  • In metal forming, there ar problems with recurrent geometric characteristics and without explicitly prescribed boundary conditions. In such problems, so-called recurrent boundary conditions must be introduced. The present study deals with nonsteady-state three-dimensional finite element analysis for extrusion of a trocoidal helical gear through a curved die. The boundary-directed remeshing scheme based on the modular remeshing technique is developed to reduce the errors arising in fitting old and new mesh systems. The computed extrusion pressure in reaching the near steady-state loading stage is compared with the results of the experiment and the steady-state analysis. The three-dimensional deformed pattern involving warping at the extruded end due to torsional deformation mode is demonstrated.
