In this study, the extractions of formants and articulatory motion trajectories for Korean complex vowels are performed by using the RLSL adaptive linear prediction filter. This enables us to extract accurate spectrum in transition of speech signal. This study shows that the RLSL algorithm is superior to the Levinson algorithm, specially in transition part of speech.

Neuropathic orofacial pain (NOP) is initiated or caused by a priomary lesion or dysfunction in the peripheral nervous system or the central nervous system. NOP is divided into paroxysmal and continuous by duration of pain. NOP is important for dentists, because they can occur after dental procedures, such as extractions, endodontic treatment, and dental implant insertion. Dentists should have concern about NOP, because it is difficult to diagnose and treat.

In this paper, we discussed the convergence and the properties of an iterative algorithm method in order to improve a bimean clustering algorithm. This algorithm that we have discussed choose automatically an optimum threshold as a result of an iterative process, successive iterations providing increasingly cleaner extractions of the object region, The iterative approach of a proposed algorithm is seen to select an appropriate threshold for the low contrast images.

Fused teeth, with all its lower prevalence, produce many problems in orthodontic treatment because of their altered form, large root, and unbalance of teeth numbers between upper and lower jaws. The authors have reviewed on its etiology, differential diagnosis, prevalence, clinical features and complications. Orthodontic treatment cases of 2 sisters with malocclusion including fused teeth were presented, in which asymmetrical extractions were performed and edgewise appliances were utilized.

The present case report describes an external auditory canal injury following extraction of the lower molar. The external auditory canal was torn in the same fashion that occurs in an anterior tympanic plate fracture. This case demonstrates one of the rare complications associated with dental extractions.

A simple apparatus for adding a modifying solvent to supercritical CO2 extractant was described. Small, fixed volumes (typically 100 μL) of liquid modifying solvents were delivered during the extraction process by use of an in-line high pressure loop injector and an air pump. Without disconnecting the extraction cell from the supercritical fluid extraction system, the modifying solvent was repeatedly delivered. The solvent modification device was optimized during the extraction of carbaryl and bis(acetylacetonato) copper(Ⅱ). Extraction recoveries from spiked filter paper and soil samples ranged between 22% and 109%, depending on the analyte and matrix components. The addition of polar modifying solvents were necessary to improve the extractability of the nonpolar CO2.

Cornis fructus were extracted by successive extractions and then fractionated with chloroform extract to get active fractions. This study was performed to determine the cytotoxic effect of chloroform extract from Cornis fructus on NIH 3T3 fibroblasts and cancer cell lines using MTT assay. All extracts did not exhibit cytotoxicity in HIH 3T3 fibroblasts. Chloroform extract exhibited antitumor activity in A549, MDA-MB-123, B16 melanoma and SNU-C4 cells. Futher fractionation with chloroform extract was performed to obtain effective fractions. (omitted)

Extraction socket preservation (ESP) is widely performed after tooth extraction for future implant placement. For successful outcome of implants after extractions, clinicians should be acquainted with the principles and indications of ESP. It is recommended that ESP be actively implemented in cases of esthetic areas, severe bone defects, and delayed implant placement. Dental implant placement is recommended at least 4 months after ESP.
