  • The purpose of this article is to develop a dynamic model of organizational capabilities and knowledge creation, and at the same time identify the organizational capability factors for effective knowledge creation, by empirically analyzing the history of new Quinolone antibacterial drug compound (LB20304a) discovery process at LG, as a case in point. Major findings of this study are as follows. First, in a science-based area such as drug development, the core of successful knowledge creation lies in creative combination of different bodies of scientific explicit knowledge. Second, the greater the difficulty of learning external knowledge, the more tacit knowledge is needed for the recipient firm to effectively exploit that knowledge. Third, in science-based sector such as pharmaceutical industry, the key for successful knowledge creation lies in the capability of recruiting and retaining star scientists. Finally, for effective knowledge creation, a firm must keep its balance among three dimensions of organizational capabilities: local, process, architectural capabilities.

  • Conventional computer programs developed and used by practicing engineers can be considered to contain expert knowledge and design experience. If these conventional programs are converted into expert systems, the difficult and time consuming process of knowledge acquisition can be simplified. Also the constructed knowledge-base can have higher confidence level than that constructed by the usual knowledge acquisition method of interviews. An existing computer program which is being used by ship structural designers has been reformulated as a design expert system by applying an expert system development shell-Nexpert. Utilizing the callable interface provided by the development shell, external design tools have also been integrated. The interfaced external functions are a graphical user interface (GUI) for the design process control, and graphics functions for the visualization of design results. It is observed that the developed system for design support is useful in two aspects. The trace-back function shows what portion of design rules are applied in arriving at certain design decisions. Also the knowledge-base can be conveniently updated as design rules of the classification societies are updated.

  • This paper aims to investigate modeling scripts based on the mode of group interaction in a computer-supported collaborative learning environment. Based on a literature review, this paper assumes that group interaction and its mode would have strong influence on the online collaborative learning process, and furthermore lead learners to create and share significant knowledge within a group. This paper deals with two different modes of group interaction- distributed and shared interaction. Distributed interaction depends on the external representation of individual knowledge, while shared interaction is concerned with sharing knowledge in group action. In order to facilitate these group interactions, this paper emphasizes the utilization of appropriate CSCL scripts, and then proposes the conceptual framework of CSCL scripts which integrate the existing scripts such as implicit, explicit, internal and external scripts. By means of the model regarding CSCL scripts based on the mode of group interaction, the implications for research on the design of CSCL scripts are explored.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of internal and external capacity on the practical capacity for food waste disposal in adults. Methods: The study subjects were 410 adults who answered a structured questionnaire. The survey was conducted in January 2021. Data were analyzed through descriprive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS Win 24.0. Results: First, in the analysis of internal capacity, attitude (3.95 out of 5 points) scored higher than knowledge (3.59 points). Attitudes showed significant differences according to gender (P < 0.001), age (P < 0.001), and income (P < 0.001). Knowledge showed significant differences according to gender (P < 0.01) and age (P < 0.05). Second, in the analysis of capacity, market constraints (3.73 points) scored the highest, followed by institutional conditions (3.48 points) and reference group (3.36 points). Market constraints differed according to gender (P < 0.001), and institutional conditions differed according to income (P < 0.001). There was a significant difference in the reference group according to the level of education (P < 0.05) and income (P < 0.05). Third, the practical capacity scores appeared in the order of separating discharge behavior, using behavior, purchasing behavior, and leadership behavior. Separating discharge behavior showed significant differences according to gender (P < 0.001), education level (P < 0.05), and income (P < 0.01). Using behavior showed a difference according to gender (P < 0.01), and purchasing behavior showed a significant difference according to income (P < 0.05). Leadership behavior showed no difference according to demographic factors. Fourth, internal capacity and external capacity showed a significant positive relationship with practical capacity. • Knowledge and technology resources are the most crucial sources for the achievement of sustainable development in competitive advantage. Meanwhile, few empirical studies have clarified the types of knowledge and technology resources that nonprofit organizations (NPOs) use and develop. This study aims to categorize knowledge and technology resources in NPOs that both researchers and practitioners can use to develop the nonprofit sector further. A qualitative research method was used for the study. Data were collected from 31 interviews with senior and founding members of NPOs in Thailand. Analysis of qualitative data identified five critical categories of knowledge resources: human resources, organizational practices, partnership or stakeholder involvement, operational practices, and other resources. This study also illustrates both internal and external technology resources, which are used in sample organizations. The study's findings contribute to developing a body of knowledge management literature related to the knowledge and technology resources of NPOs.
