In order to optimize the press formability of incremental sheet forming for complex shape (e.g human face), a combination of both CAM and FEM simulation, is implemented and evaluated from the histories of stress and strain value by means of finite element analysis. Here, the results, using ABAQUS/Explicit finite element code, are compared with fracture limit curve (FLC) in order to predict and optimize the press formability by changing parameters of tool radius and tool down-step according to the orthogonal array of Taguchi's method. Firstly, The CAM simulation is used to create cutter location data (CL data). This data are then calculated, modified and exported to the input file format required by ABAQUS through using MATLAB programming. The FEM results are implemented for negative incremental sheet forming and then investigate by experiment.

In this study, a finite element method program code which can be accomodate boundary conditions on the complex surfaces has been developed to simulate polymer extruder processes. The analysis method includes the fractional 4-step method for efficient computation time and compact usage of memory storage to solve the velocities and the pressure values from the Navier-Stokes equation. By using the developed program which was verified with simple Poiseuille flow mixture phenomena in single-and twin-screw extruder are analyzed. It is concluded that the proposed method resulte Poiseuille Poiseuille d in fair agreement with the exact solution of simple flow and the back flow near the entrance happens in single-screw model. It is identified that the location and values of maximum pressure in the twin screw extruder model. It is expected that the Velocity field found can be used to predict the degree of mixture in the extruder barrel.
In this study, the explicit numerical algorithm was proposed to simulate the stress erection process and ultimate-load analysis of the strarch (stressed arch) system. The strarch system is a unique and innovative structural system and member prestress comprising prefabricated plane truss frames erected through a post-tensioning stress erection procedure. The flexible bottom chord, which has sleeve and gap details, is closed by the reaction force of the prestressing tendon. The prestress imposed on the tendon will enable the strarch system to be erected. This post-tensioning process is called "stress erection process." During this process, plastic rigid-body rotation occurs to the flexible top chord due to the excessive amount of plastic strain, and the structural characteristic is unstable. In this study, the dynamic relaxation method (DRM) was adopted to calculate the nonlinear equilibrium equation of the system, and a displacement-based finite-element-formulated filament beam element was used to simulate the nonlinear behavior of the top chord sections of the strarch system. The section of the filament beam element was composed by the amount of filaments, which can be modeled by various material models. The Ramberg-Osgood and bilinear kinematic elastic plastic material models were formulated for the nonlinear material behaviors of the filaments. The numerical results that were obtained in the present study were compared with the experiment results of the stress erection and with the results of the ultimate-load analysis of the strarch unit frame. The results of the present studies are in good agreement with the previous experiment results, and the explicit DRM enabled the analysis of the post-buckling behaviors of the strarch unit frame.

Recently, due to the increasing attention to the structural safety under uncertain environments, many researches on the structural reliability analysis have been peformed. Some useful methods are available to evaluate performance reliability of structures with explicit limit states. However, for large structures, in which structural behaviors can be analyzed with finite element models and the limit states are only expressed implicitly, Monte-Carlo simulation method has been mainly used. However, Monte-Carlo simulation method spends too much computational time on repetitive structural analysis. Many alternative methods are suggested to reduce the computational work required in Monte-Carlo simulation. Response surface method is widely used to improve the efficiency of structural reliability analysis. Response surface method is based on the concept of approximating simple polynomial function of basic random variables for the limit state which is not easily expressed in explicit forms of design random variables. The response surface method has simple algorithm. However, the accuracy of results highly depends on how properly the stochastic characteristics of the original limit state has been represented by approximated function, In this study, an improved response surface method is proposed in which the sampling points for creating response surface are modified to represent the failure surface more adequately and the combined use of a linear response surface function and Rackwitz-Fiessler method has been employed. The method is found to be more effective and efficient than previous response surface methods. In addition more consistent convergence is achieved, Accuracy of the proposed method has been investigated through example.

A sacrificial member with aluminum foam of excellent energy absorption capacity was proposed for the protection of significant structures. Parametric studies of explicit finite element analyses were performed to investigate the pressure mitigation of close-range air-blasts. The scaled distance of the blast had a range of Z=0.48~0.95 and an empirical blast load function was utilized. The analytical parameters of the aluminum foam were density, thickness and the existence of a cover sheet. Analytical results showed that the transmitted pressure can be controlled to have a similar level of yield values of the foam by using a foam with low density and higher thickness. As the blast load increased, the sacrificial member needed to have higher density and thickness. A cover sheet of the foam clearly showed its effect on the wider distribution of blast pressure. It is necessary to determine the design parameters of sacrificial foams considering different energy dissipation capacities according to the scaled distance.
Numerical simulation of sheet metal forming for panels as other components has wide acceptance in the automotive industry. Therefore this paper was focused in the drawability factors (which are friction coefficient , radius of die and punch ) on the square cup deep drawing by the explicit finite elements code $PAM-STAMP^{TM}$. The computed results are compared with the experimental results to show the validity of the analysis. In order to compare the simulation results with the experiment results and predict the effect of drawability factors, the relationships between punch load punch stroke, and the relationships between thickness strain and distance are used. According to this study, the results of simulation by using $PAM-STAMP^{TM}$ will give engineers good information to access the drawability of square drawing.
In this research, the explicit closed-form local buckling solution of steel plates in contact with concrete, with both loaded and unloaded edges elastically restrained against rotation and subjected to eccentric compression is presented. The Rayleigh-Rize approach is applied to establish the eigenvalue problem for the local buckling performance. Buckling shape which combines trigonometric and biquadratic functions is introduced according to that used by Qin et al. (2017) on steel plate buckling under uniform compression. Explicit solutions for predicting the local buckling stress of steel plate are obtained in terms of the rotational stiffness. Based on different boundary conditions, simply yet explicit local buckling solutions are discussed in details. The proposed formulas are validated against previous research and finite element results. The influences of the loading stress gradient parameter, the aspect ratio, and the rotational stiffness on the local buckling stress resultants of steel plates with different boundary conditions were evaluated. This work can be considered as an alternative to apply a different buckling shape function to study the buckling problem of steel plate under eccentric compression comparing to the work by Qin et al. (2018), and the results are found to be in consistent with those in Qin et al. (2018).
A flexible concrete mattress (FCM) is a structural system for protecting submarine power or communication cables under various load types. To evaluate its of protection performance, a numerical analysis of an FCM under an anchor collision was performed. The explicit dynamics of the finite element analysis program ANSYS were used for the collision analysis. The influences of the steel reinforcement modeling and collision angle of the anchor on the collision behavior of the FCM were estimated. The FCM damage was evaluated based on the results of the numerical analysis considering the numerical modeling and collision environment.

Finite element method (FEM) is utilized in the development of products to realistically analyze and predict the mechanical behavior of materials in various fields. However, the approach based on the numerical analysis of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) composites, for which the fiber orientation and strain rate affect the mechanical properties, has proven to be challenging. The purpose of this study is to define and evaluate the mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced plastic composites using the numerical analysis models of Digimat, a linear, nonlinear multi-scale modeling program for various composite materials such as polymers, rubber, metal, etc. In addition, the aim is to predict the behavior of realistic polymeric composites. In this regard, the tensile properties according to the fiber orientation and strain rate of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) with short fiber weight fractions of 30wt% among various polymers were investigated using references. Information on the fiber orientation was calculated based on injection analysis using Moldflow software, and was utilized in the finite element model for tensile specimens via a mapping process. LS-Dyna, an explicit commercial finite element code, was used for coupled analysis using Digimat to study the tensile properties of composites according to the fiber orientation and strain rate of glass fibers. In addition, the drawbacks and advantages of LS-DYNA's various anisotropic material models were compared and evaluated for the analysis of glass fiber reinforced plastic composites.

This paper introduces a new explicit spectral element method for the simulation of SH-waves in semi-infinite domains. To simulate the wave motion in unbounded domains, it is necessary to reduce the infinite extent to a finite computational domain of interest. To prevent the wave reflection from the trunctated boundaries, perfectly matched layer(PML) wave-absorbing boundary is introduced. The forward problem for simulating SH-waves in PML-truncated domains can be formulated as second-order PDEs. The second-order semi-discrete form of the governing PDEs is constructed by using a mixed spectral elements with Legendre-gauss-Lobatto quadrature method, which results in a diagonalized mass matrix. Then the second-order semi-discrete form is transformed to a first-order, whose solutions are calculated by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. Numerical examples showed that solutions of SH-wave in the two-dimensional analysis domain resulted in stable and accurate, and reflections from truncated boundaries could be reduced by using PML boundaries. Elastic wave propagation analysis using explicit time integration method may be apt for solving larger domain problems such as three-dimensional elastic wave problem more efficiently.
