  • An efficient RVQ image coding method is proposed using the segmentation-based coding and CVQ techniques. In the proposed method the residual image, the difference between an original image and the synthesized one obtained from the segmentation-based coding, is first dividel into $\times$4 subblocks. They are then individually coded in the spatial domain using a simple CVQ. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields better quality of the reconstructed images in both PSNR and subjective test over the basic VQ and SMVQ.

  • Finite element equations by using fast Fourier transformation were formulated for studying temperatures resulting from frictional heating in sliding systems. The equations include the effect of velocity of moving components. The program developed by using FFT-FEM that combines Fourier transform techniques and the finite element method, was applied to the sliding bearing system. Numerical prediction obtained by FFT-FEM was in an excellent agreement of experimental temperature measurements.

  • We investigated the interaction between polyynes (linear carbon chains) and various metal nanoparticles (Ag, Au, and Cu) to provide insight into the optical properties of metal-polyynes systems prepared by different experimental techniques. Polyynes were produced by laser ablation in deionized water, metal nanoparticles solutions, and copper chloride solution. Metal nanoparticles complexes with polyynes were analyzed by Raman, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, and UV-vis spectroscopy.

  • Digital watermarking has been proposed as a solution to the problem of copyright protection of the multimedia documents. In this paper a new watermarking method for digital images operating in the frequency domain is proposed. In our approach, DCT coefficients of the watermark are added to the low frequency region of the host image, and extract it using the Wiener Filter. Due to the characteristic of the wiener filtering, the watermark is robust to various image processing techniques. Experimental results show that it is possible to reliably extract the watermark without degrading image quality.

  • SMD mounter is necessary in PCB assembling line. To feed SMD components to the mounter, high performance feeders are needed. Until now, mechanical air feeders have been mainly used. However, in these days, electrical feeders with network are developed. There are many kinds of feeders with various control techniques. In this paper, a feeder with BLDC motor and LON chip is designed and implemented. And, the experimental results are presented.

  • In this dissertation, experimental research was carried out to study the hysteretic behavior of reinforced high-strength concrete beam-column joints designed by high performance techniques, such as application of high-strength concrete, reducing of joint regions damage, moving of beam plastic hinge. Specimens(HJAI, HJCI), designed by the development of earthquake-resistant performance, moving of beam plastic hinge, and new design approach, were attained the moving of beam plastic hinge and developed significantly earthquake-resistant performance of such joints.

  • In this paper we suggest an efficient evolutionary approach based on topological sort techniques for precedence constrained TSPs. The determination of optimal sequence has much to offer to downstream project management and opens up new opportunities for supply chains and logistics. Experimental results show that the suggested approach is a good alternative to locate optimal solution for complicated precedence constrained sequencing as in optimization method for instance.

  • A conventional environment adaptation for robust speech recognition is usually conducted using transform-based techniques. Here, we present a discriminative adaptation strategy based on a multi-condition-trained model, and propose a new method to provide universal application to a new environment using the environment's specific conditions. Experimental results show that a speech recognition system adapted using the proposed method works successfully for other conditions as well as for those of the new environment.

  • The results of source location in terms of AE signal occurred by the spot exciting as suggested in this research, it has been confirmed that AE technique is quite fruitful in figuring out the location of the occurrence, form, size and direction of the defects. Thus, it is expected that the application of the experimental method suggested in this study would make it possible to identify, in the nondestructive way, the location of the defect in the material.

  • The current analytical techniques for R/C elements under severe dynamic repeated loads, like earthquake or impact, has two major problems; one is that the effects of strain rate are not considered and the other one is the current model was developed based on flexural behavior only. Thus, this study develops a computer software that can idealize the flexural and shear behavior of R/C elements using several parameters and also can consider the effects of strain rate. The analytical results using the developed analytical technique were compared with several experimental results and were generally satisfied.
