  • In this study, the hydrological properties of permeable pavement were analyzed by the experiment and the numerical simulation. The numerical model used was a modified SWMM especially for considering the hydrological response of permeable pavement. The parameters of modified SWMM were revised by the experimental results, and then the practicability was evaluated through the comparison of the experimental and numerical simulation results. In the experiments, three different rainfall intensities such as 65 mm/hr, 90 mm/hr, 95 mm/hr were supplied for 4 hrs, and the hydraulic properties including surface outflow, subsurface outflow, ground water level, soil water contents were measured for 10 hrs. The results showed rainfall intensity effected directly on surface outflow volume and subsurface outflow volume was more effected by ground water level than rainfall intensity. The ground water level and the soil water contents were under estimated as compared with the experimental data except the portion of occurring direct runoff. The surface and subsurface outflow discharge were simulated very well in comparison with the experimental data. Consequently, the modified SWMM could be used very effectively to evaluate the hydrological property of permeable pavement.

  • A study was conducted to investigate the effect of supplementing earthworm meal (EWM) on the performance of spent laying hens after induced molting, and fatty acid composition in egg yolks. A total of 90 laying hens at 73 weeks of age were fed the experimental diets containing 0.0% (Control) and 0.2% of EWM for 4 weeks. Eggs were collected and weighted every day and Egg production and feed conversion were recorded every week during the experimental period. However fatty acid composition of egg yolk were measured at last week of experimental period. An amount of feed intake increased by supplemental with EMW except for Erst week experimental period (P<0.05). When 76 and 77 week of age, egg production and daily egg mass were improved by the supplemented with EWM (P<0.01), but average egg weight was not different when fed a EWM, therefore feed/egg mass was significantly decreased when fed a EWM. The ratio of egg yolk n-6/n-3 fatty acids contents was significantly improved fed a EMW (P<0.05). It is concluded that supplementing 0.2% of earthworm meal in the spent laying hens after induced molting was fast in recover of physical strength, therefore improves laying performance.

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of physical education classes based on Flipped Learning on self-directed learning abilities and learning attitude towards these classes, for middle school students. The study selected 90 students as an experimental group (3 classes) and 97 students as a control group (3 classes), among 240 students of the first-year students attending a middle school located at Jeonju City of South Korea, applying convenience sampling, one of the non-probability sampling methods. For the experimental group, 36 sessions of physical education classes were held for 14 weeks, while the control group received teacher-centered classes. Comparing the results with the control group, the experimental group showed significant differences in terms of all sub factors of self-directed learning abilities, namely; desire for learning, learning objective establishment, basic self-management abilities, selection of learning strategy and self-reflection. Moreover, the experimental group manifested significant differences in terms of all sub factors of attitude towards the physical education subjects, namely; positive emotions, negative emotions, health & physical strength, interpersonal relations, physical activities & movements, and active participation & positive performance. From the findings, it can be considered that physical education classes based on Flipped Learning contributed to improving self-directed learning abilities and attitude towards physical education classes. This result can serve as a significant basic material for designing and performing classes in raising the understanding of Flipped Learning and effectively applying Flipped Learning in physical education classes.

  • We investigated the specific gravity and mechanical property changes of solid-state extruded polypropylene (PP)/talc composites before and after orientation. The specific gravity of the composites increases with increasing the filler contents. The specific gravity of the oriented specimen containing filler in PP matrix is found to be much smaller than that of pre-specimen due to the formation of more micro-voids. It was found that the tensile properties of the composites are increased up to the talc content of 10 wt%, but after the contents exceeding 10 wt%, the tensile properties are decreased. For oriented specimens, the tensile strength of the composites showed monotonously decrease with increasing talc contents. When the contents of talc is 10 wt%, the theoretical values according to Halpin-Tsai equation are close to the experimental values but over 20 wt% of talc contents, the deviation of the experimental values from the theoretical prediction becomes higher. The maximum flexural strength and modulus were observed for PP/talc composites when the talc contents was 10 wt% for both pre-specimen and oriented specimen.

  • This study examined the effect of excess loading of calcium (Ca)and iron(Fe) on the bioavailability of minerals in both normal and Ca-and Fe-deficient rats. Three-week-old male rats were divided into four groups and fed experimental diets for six weeks, containing either normal (0.5%) or high(1.5%) Ca and normal (35ppm) or high (350ppm)Fe. Likewise, three-week-old male rats were first fed a Ca-and Fe-deficient diet for three weeks, and then fed one of four experimental diets for additional three weeks. In both normal and Ca-and Fe-deficient rats, ca contents of serum, liver, kidney and femur were not significantly affected by dietary Ca and Fe levels. Apparent Ca absorption(%) decreased in rats fed a high Ca diet regardless of dietary Fe levels. Magnesium(Mg) contents of serum, liver and femur significantly decreased in rats fed a high Ca diet. Fe contents of serum and liver significantly increased in rats fed a high-Fe diet, but decreased in rats fed a high Ca diet. Fe content of serum and liver significantly increased in rate fed a high-Fe diet, decreased in rats fed a high-Ca diet. Apparent Fe absorption increased in rats fed a high-Fe diet, and decreased in rats fed a high-Ca diet in Ca-and Fe-deficient rats, but dietary Ca did not seem to affect Fe absorption in normal rats. Phosphorus(P) contents of serum and femur were not significantly affected by dietary Ca and Fe levels in both normal and Ca-and Fe-deficient rats. Serum copper(Cu) decreased in rats fed a high-Fe diet, while serum zinc(Zn) decreased in rats fed a high-Ca diet in normal rats. Cu contents of liver, and Zn contents of serum and liver decreased in rats fed a high-Fe diet in Ca-and Fe-deficient rats. There results suggest that a dietary overload of Ca and Fe in both normal and Ca-and Fe-deficient rats may decrease mineral bioavailability leading to potential health problems.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of late-harvested green tea extract on serum and tissue lipid contents and Ca absorption. Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 200g were fed high fit diets containing no tea(control), 0.5%(0.5LG), 1.0% late-harvested green tea extract(1.0LG), and 1.0% early-harvested green tea extract(1.0EG) for 4 weeks. Though daily food intake of experimental groups showed no significant difference from that of control group, daily body weight gain and food efficiency ratio were lower in all groups fed green tea extract. The contents of serum triglyceride of 1.0LG and 1.0EG groups and the content of serum total cholesterol of 1.0LG group were significantly lower than those of control group. The values of serum HDL-cholesterol in groups fed green tea extract were higher than that in the control group. LDL-cholesterol and atherogenic indices of all groups fed green tea extract were significantly lower than those of the control group. The contents of total lipid and triglyceride in liver were significantly lower in only 1.0LG group. For epididymal fit pad, the contents of total lipid and triglyceride in 1.0LG and 1.0EG groups were lower than those in the control group. The contents of total lipid excreted in feces were higher in groups fed diets of 1.0% green tea extract. There was no significant difference among experimental groups in Ca absorption. These results suggest that the administration of late-harvested green tea extract decreases the contents of fat in the body without reducing Ca absorption. • This study was aimed to observe the effects of municipal sewage sludge as a organic fertilizer on the growth and KDICical omposition of Altari radish (Raphanus sativus). The accumulation rate of heavy metals of the sludge in the radish was also observed. Municipal sewage sludge of Taejon City was applied to the soil of Pai-Chai University Farm to make 6 gradients of sludge contents in the soil. Root weight of Altari radish was affected significantly by N and P contents in the soil. The longest leaves and roots were produced in the control group, in which urea was applied as nitrogen source to the soil. Even though any other sludge-applied groups produced shorter leaves and roots than the control group, the length of the leaves and roots and the weight of the whole plant of the radish tended to increase with the increase of the sludge application. Contents of N, K, Ca and Mg in the radish were not significantly different among those in 6 experimental groups, but P contents in leaves varied among the 6 groups. Zn content of spring Altari radish treated with 200% sludge was 57.6 mg/kg. It is the highest contents among 6 experimental groups. Contents of Zn, Mn and Cd were higher in leaves than in roots, but less than those in market vegetables. From the above results, it is concluded that municipal sewage sludge can be applied as organic fertilizer to the growth of Altari radish. But this sludge could not be applied under our current regulations, which must be reviewed at intra-governmental leavels.

  • This study examined the effect of valence for best reply on the conformity of general reply in online environment. A total of 194 participants participated in this study, each participant assigned randomly in three experimental groups(positive, negative, and control). Participants were asked to read online news article, best reply and general 6 replies, and then, to write their own opinions in the reply section. In addition, the level of self-expression and issue commitment were measured. The contents of reply participants written was categorized three valence(positive, negative, and neutral) by the four experimenters' judgment. The mean of inter-rater reliability was 84.9%. The results indicated that the level of self-expression and issue commitment were comparable across experimental conditions. However, the result of cross-table analysis showed that there is a significant difference in the valence of general reply across experimental conditions. Specifically, there were significant difference in the valence of general reply between positive and negative experimental group and positive and control group, but there is no significant difference between negative and control group.
