  • Since the twentieth century, common exhibitions have experienced display replacements and apace alterations. As a result, not only the visual space background of the spectators but the structure systems and positions of the construction space have also been changed. With regards to common zones of the exhibition space, appropriate harmonization of spectators space, aisle space, and media space are closely related the effectiveness and propriety of display arrangement. A number of preceeding researches suggest exhibition first, construction next, regarding the order of the construction and exhibition of the museums and art galleries. However, a majority of the exhibition hall constructions in Korea have not been carried away based on these models. Thus, disharmony of constructions and exhibition space structures have caused numerous problems. The purpose of this research is to seek the countermeasures that can be used in the stage of planning for the museum constructions and exhibition space by suggesting, based on the above mentioned points, the development of the indicators and analyzing methods to understand the structural attributes of the common exhibition space through space syntax method and multivariate analysis.

  • The study intends to systematically arrange and classify the museum layouts in terms of their structure of exhibition space. The exhibition space, here, means the whole area where visitors are allowed to move and visit in museums. Through this, I tied to understand the characteristics and trends comparing and analyzing international and national exhibition space layout, and then grope the standard in case of establishing museum. The first criteria is based on the point of view that the typical museum experience is made in the exhibition space. Accordingly, the exhibition space can be grouped into two categories; one is 'room type' consisting mostly of individual rooms as in classical museums, and the other is 'open plan type' consisting free standing walls as in miesian free plan. The second criteria is dependent on the way how visitors move about in exhibition spaces. In other words, museum layouts can be categorized in terms of mutual connection between individual spaces including exhibition spaces and corridor spaces designated for the purpose of moving. consequently, the layouts can be categorized into five groups such as 'free plan', 'linear type', 'room to room', 'room & corridor' and 'composition type'. The third criteria is about the overall structure of museum layouts including such elements as whether it contains a certain type of central major space or not and whether and how the exhibition spaces are connected to it. By applying these classificatory criteria, the study analyzed and classified 90 sample of museum layouts in order to understand clearly and succintly the spatial characteristics and implications contained in them.

  • The development in modern world media made information expansion and conversion much easier. These changes in media environment required a lot of companies to quickly respond to the overall environment and come up with new appropriate marketing strategies. Companies use experiential exhibition halls to enhance their images. The goal of the research is to set the basis for digital signage exhibition production characteristics as a spatial mechanism by presenting the need to use the digital signage as a tool. Digital signage expands senses and connects internal and external space. There are many types of digital signage (display, projection, special media, etc) and they are informative, aesthetic, inductive, and amusing. For research methods, Korean companies' exhibition halls sample analysis and surveys were executed to analyze the awareness, expression characteristics, effects, and usage status of digital signage. In conclusion, corporate exhibition halls should: 1. be an interesting and comfortable space that can be used as a communication tool between the company and consumers 2. increase corporate potentials and faith by expanding human senses and inducing new experiences 3. continue to capture the interest of spectators through diversity.

  • The world is suffered from severe environmental problems such as climate change and global warming due to radical industrialization after the Industrial Revolution. With advancement of science and information technologies, national borders have become meaningless. In this global trend, movable exhibition shall be supposed to pursue "Local in Global." Thus, movable exhibition should get involved in an effort to find a cultural identity in the globalization and to better our position among the various cultures. As an alternative, movable exhibition can be established by combining biomimicry, which is biomimicry of life by imitating biological system, with Flexibility of movable space. By providing a hint to environmental problems and cultural uncertainty, this alternative will generate an advanced exhibition trend that is more environmental-friendly and more efficient. As a cumulative concept created by the nature for 3.8 billion years, biomimicry has evolved a lot more than the modern science. By catching this point, "A study on flexibility of movable exhibition through biomimicry notion" is providing a revolutionary paradigm stepping beyond the current exhibition trend, which pursues coexistence of human beings and the nature and, at the same time, introduces our culture.

  • In order to increase visitors' viewing satisfaction and viewing behavior in the art museum exhibit by flat works, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of major evaluation factors, such as 'the number of artworks and their intervals', 'the space of exhibition and the size of walls', and 'compositional change of exhibition spaces', which have a close relationship with each evaluation factors, by focusing on artworks and exhibition space. Thus, to investigate how the characteristic differences of the major evaluation factors in art museums affect visitors' viewing satisfaction and viewing behavior, this study compared the related analytical indicators, and conducted a correlation analysis. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the degree of concentration on artworks (which has been selected as a collective assessment indicator of visitors' satisfaction) increased when the exhibition space of art museum is display by less artworks and they have big interval in the large wall. Second, visitors' viewing satisfaction and qualitative viewing behavior increased when the exhibition space of art museum are simple and they change to simpler step by step. These findings imply that there is a high correlation between visitors' visio-perceptual experiences and viewing behavior, and that visitors' viewing satisfaction and viewing behavior can be predicted partially in the certain exhibition environment from this correlation.

  • Since a private museums started in Europe 17C, many private museums established for high-class people like aristocrats to collect and to keep art works and to appreciate for limited members. After the French Revolution in 18C, the publicity became an important social issue through all European regions, and the museum gradually changed into public ones. Like that, as the concept of museum changed, its social role as well as its function was also changed. The concept of collection and display or preservation changed into the concept of exhibition and appreciation featuring the publicity. With the year-round exhibition, a classical concept, the planned-exhibition, a new active concept set as an important factor for a museum's projects. The latter concept embraces new social issues. Therefore as the space for planned-exhibitions reflecting social issues every season was needed, a museum sets its planned-exhibition space with the changeability, and gradually expands this kind of space in size. It is expected that planned-exhibition spaces characterized as the changeability may give some changes on the flow of a museum's overall space, and may have substantial influences on the flow. To recognize the changes in a planned-exhibition space's influence on the museum, this study selected some national, public museums having the planned-exhibition space, and investigated their influences on each museum's overall space structure through the analysis on space syntax. This study assumed the change of planned-exhibition space as the changes in the number of convex spaces, and measured it. And to understand the planned-exhibition's changes on a museum's overall spaces, such changed assumed as the numeric changes in convex spaces and measured them. In addition, the numeric changes's influence on the overall space structure was analyzed by measuring the overall space's average integration level. Through the above two factors, the 3 research methodologies and analyzed results were drawn out.
