  • This paper proposes a new type of consequent-pole permanent-magnet (CPPM) machine with stator axial magnetic ring that increases torque capability over a wide speed range and enhances efficiency for the built-in rare-earth permanent magnet synchronous machine used in new energy vehicles. The excitation winding of the CPPM hybrid excitation synchronous machine in the stator is replaced by ferrite magnetic ring to simplify the structure and manufacturing process of the machine. The basic structure and magnetic regulation principle of the proposed machine are introduced and compared with the traditional interior rare-earth permanent magnet synchronous machine and CPPM hybrid excitation synchronous machine. Finally, experimental results of a new type of CPPM synchronous motor prototype with axial magnetic ring are introduced in the paper.

  • Ancient monuments of Greek and Roman classical architecture usually consist of multi-drum columns that are constructed of stone blocks placed on top of each other. Several research studies deal with the seismic behaviour of such structures, since earthquakes are common causes of destruction of such monuments. This paper investigates the effect of multiple earthquakes on the seismic performance of multi-drum columns, through numerical simulations and parametric analyses. The Discrete Element Method and an appropriate contact model have been implemented in a specially developed software application that is able to efficiently perform the necessary simulations in two dimensions. Specifically, various strong ground excitations are used in series for the computation of the collective final deformation of multi-drum columns. In order to calculate this cumulative deformation for a series of ground motions, the individual deformation of the column for each excitation is computed and then used as initial conditions for the next earthquake excitation. Various multi-drum columns with different dimensions are also considered in the analyses in order to examine how the geometric characteristics of columns can affect their seismic sequence behaviour, in combination with the excitation frequency content.

  • In this paper, we combine a generalized analysis-by-synthesis (AbS) structure and an algebraic excitation scheme to propose a new 4kb/s speech codec. This codec partly uses the structure of G.729. We design a line spectrum pair (LSP) quantizer, an adaptive codebook, and an excitation codebook to fit the 4 kb/s bit rate. The codec has a 25㎳ algorithmic delay, which corresponds to a 20㎳ frame size and a 5㎳ lookahead. At the bit rates below 4kb/s, most CELP speech codecs using the AbS principle have a drawback that results a rapid degradation of speech quality. To overcome this drawback we use the generalized AbS structure which is efficient for the low bit rate speech codec. LP coefficients are converted to LSP and quantized using a predictive 2-stage VQ. A low complexity algebraic codebook which uses shifting method is used for the fixed codebook excitation, and gains of the adaptive codebook and the fixed codebook are quantized using the VQ. To evaluate the performance of the proposed codec A-B preference tests are done with the fixed rate 8kb/s QCELP. As the result of the test, the performance of the codec is similar to that of the fixed rate 8kb/s QCELP.

  • To dale, lots of types of tuned mass dampers are developed and investigated to reduce dynamic responses of a structure due to various causes. In this study, control performance of semi-active tuned mass damper(STMD), that can change the damping of tuned mass damper in real time based on structural responses, was investigated with respect to various types of excitation employing numerical simulation. Skyhook control algorithm was used to appropriately modulate the damping ratio of semi-active damper that composes STMD. The control effectiveness of a STMD under harmonic and random excitation were evaluated using a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) structure in comparison with a conventional passive tuned mass damper (TMD). The robustness of a STMD and a passive TMD were compared along with the variation of the mass of a SDOF structure. The control performance of STMD using magnetorheological (MR) damper was also investigated in this study. Based on the numerical studios, it was shown that the control effectiveness of the STMD was significantly superior to that of a passive TMD with respect to harmonic and random excitation.

  • The absence of excitation measurements may pose a big challenge in the application of structural damage identification owing to the fact that substantial effort is needed to reconstruct or identify unknown input force. To address this issue, in this paper, an iterative strategy, a synergy of Tikhonov regularization method for force identification and modified Jaya algorithm (M-Jaya) for stiffness parameter identification, is developed for damage identification with partial output-only responses. On the one hand, the probabilistic clustering learning technique and nonlinear updating equation are introduced to improve the performance of standard Jaya algorithm. On the other hand, to deal with the difficulty of selection the appropriate regularization parameters in traditional Tikhonov regularization, an improved L-curve method based on B-spline interpolation function is presented. The applicability and effectiveness of the iterative strategy for simultaneous identification of structural damages and unknown input excitation is validated by numerical simulation on a 21-bar truss structure subjected to ambient excitation under noise free and contaminated measurements cases, as well as a series of experimental tests on a five-floor steel frame structure excited by sinusoidal force. The results from these numerical and experimental studies demonstrate that the proposed identification strategy can accurately and effectively identify damage locations and extents without the requirement of force measurements. The proposed M-Jaya algorithm provides more satisfactory performance than genetic algorithm, Gaussian bare-bones artificial bee colony and Jaya algorithm.

  • As internet spread widely, various service which use the internet have been provided. One of the service is a internet phone. Its usage is increasing by the advantage of cost. But it has a falling off in quality of speech. because it use packet switching method while existing telephone use circuit switching method. Although vocoder use PLC (Packet Loss Concealment) algorithm, it has a weakness of continuous packet loss. In this paper, we propose methods to improve a lowering in quality of speech under continuous loss of packet by using PLC algorithm used in advanced G.729 and G.711. The proposed methods are LP (Linear Prediction) parameter interpolation, excitation signal reconstruction and excitation signal gain reconstruction. As a result, the proposed method shows superior performance about 11%.

  • in the case of using SMES to shave the peak load with the isolated synchronous ge nerator- converter, the performance equations are derived. The commutation angle, the power angle, the field current, the storage energy and the power are derived by changing firing angle, that is, following the excitation velocity of SMES current. The output characteristics are computed by digital computer simulation.

  • This paper provides experimental results of an excitation control system of the synchronous generator on board ships in accordance with rules of classification society to make sure its performance. The experiment compares and reviews control results between PID control and fuzzy logic control applied to change of loads of the generator in order to make sure to satisfy the rules of classification society. Both of them are written by Labview program. In case of PID Control, this paper firstly adjusts the gains by ultimate sensitive method and the gains is more tuned by engineer's experience. And the fuzzy logic controller uses Mamdani method to make membership function for error between reference voltage and measuring voltage, differential error rate and output voltage. This paper is to make sure the experimental results of the proposed excitation control system applied to actual small synchronous generator with PID control and fuzzy logic written by using Labview program and it is proved on stability and improvement through experiments.

  • It is important to ensure the seismic safety of pile-bent bridges constructed in areas with thick soft ground consisting of various soil layers against seismic motion in these layers. In this study, several synthetic seismic waves that are compatible with the seismic design spectrum for rock sites were generated, and the ground acceleration history of each soil layer was obtained based on ground analyses. Using these acceleration histories, each soil layer was modeled using equivalent linear springs, and multi-support excitation analyses were performed using the input motion obtained at each soil layer. Due to the nonlinear behavior of the soft soil layers, the intensity of the input ground motion was not amplified, which resulted in the elastic behavior of the bridge. In addition, inputting the acceleration history obtained from a particular layer simultaneously into all the ground springs reduced the response. Therefore, the seismic performance of this type of bridge might be overestimated if multi-excitation analysis is not performed.
