Occlusal force is a critical factor affecting the condition and structure of the periodontium. When the occlusal forces exceed the physiologic adaptive capacity of the tissues, tissue damage ensues. Such damage is referred to as trauma from occlusion. Excessive pressure causes compression, degeneration and realignment of the periodontal ligament fibers so that they are paralleled perpendicular to the tooth and bone. By inducing excessive occlusal forces with a high amalgam filling on rat's molar, the author observed histologic alterations of the periodontal ligament fibers by means of Hematoxylin-eosin, Van Gieson and Aldenyde fuchsin stainings. The results of the study were observed as follows: 1) The excessive occlusal forces altered arrangement of the collagenous fibers. 2) The arrangement of the oblique fibers showed appreciable differences between the control group and the group subjected to 10 days experimental trauma from occlusion. 3) The realignment of the transseptal fibers was not found. 4) The arrangement of the oblique fibers after 15 days of trauma from occusion was similar to that of 10 days experimental group. 5) The oxytalan fibers were more abundant at the cementum rather than at the alveolar bone. 6) The excessive occlusal forces produced funnel-shaped widening of the oxytalan fibers, which followed wavy course. 7) The oxytalan fibers appeared to be distributed mainly around the middle third of the root rather than that of the apical third of the root during the experimental trauma from occlusion.

Recently, tunnel constructions have been increased in Korea. According to the increment of tunnel constructions, cases of tunnel collapses also have been increased under tunnel construction. Among these tunnel collapses, after a certain amount of time has elapsed due to excessive displacements on slope of tunnel exit or entrance, cases of tunnel collapse have been increased rapidly. Therefore, the case study was conducted in this study to figure out factors effect on the tunnel collapses due to excessive displacements on tunnel exit or entrance slopes. Base on the case study, the fragmental zone of fault and the rainfall were most important factors on the collapse.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of curing methods on the concentration of ammonia during curing in burley tobacco leaves. The air-cured tobacco(KB108; Nicotiana tabacum L.) was grown at Chonju Tobacco Experiment Station in 1998 and the tenth leaves from the top on the stalk were harvested. Half of the harvested leaves were cured in normal air curing facility and the other leaves were cured in excessive curing facility. Stalk cut tobaccos were cured in horizontal curing facility. The leaves were sampled every five days from harvesting time to the end of curing(25 days). Ammonia concentration of leaves increased during curing period with a remarkable increase at yellowing stage. The concentration of ammonia was high in the primed cured leaves, while that of the excessive cured leaves was low. It is considered that the lower increase of ammonia in stalk cured leaves may be caused by the translocation from the leaves to the stalk during curing, while that of excessive cured leaves may be caused by the poor decomposition of protein and amino acid during curing by excessive moisture loss and high temperature condition.
Fruits of 'Manita', a red pepper cultivar, and 'HL', a cultivar bred for single-harvest, cultivated by direct sowing method were harvested simultaneously. The red fruits were freeze-, sun-, indoor-, hot-air $(65^{\circ}C)$, and excessive hot-air (50% longer time) dried. For Manita. ASTA values of freeze- and indoor-dried red pepper were the highest $(153.6{\sim}168.4)$, and those of sun- and hot air-dried ones were $119.2{\sim}131.5$. Excessive hot-air drying decreased the redness by about $9{\sim}15%$ compared to normal hot-air drying. For HL, ASTA values $(150.3{\sim}171.7)$ of indoor-dried red peppers were much higher than other dried peppers. Red pigment in HL was destroyed easily during sun drying, showing values of only $49.2{\sim}69.2$. By excessive hot-air drying, the redness did not decrease, compared to normal hot-air drying. The organic acid contents of both cultivars were higher in sun- and hot-air-dried ones than freeze- and indoor-dried ones. Copsaicinoid contents of both cultivars decreased up to 22% by excessive hot-air drying compared to normal hot-air drying. Sugar contents were lower in all drying methods other than freeze drying for both cultivars.
Use of electric pulp testing elicits painful response in vital teeth. In this study, we examined the excessive time from pain feeling to stimulation disconnection in clinical situation. D626D (Parkell Inc., USA.) scan type electric pulp tester was used in total of 23 young healthy individuals. Each of the right central incisors and first premolars were used as testing teeth. Stimulation disconnection was achieved by EMG in anterior belly of digastric muscle, finger span, and voice and the excessive stimulation time over the sensory thresh-old was recorded. As a result, we found that the short responses before the stimulation disconnection appeared following order:EMG, finger span, and voice. The EMG disconnection is suggested to be used to reduce the excessive stimulus time in electric pulp testing.
The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of abuse, neglect, and excessive interference of parents on adolescent aggression in the longitudinal context and examine the moderating effect of playing computer game theoretically guided by the flow theory. 2,351 adolescents from the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey was analyzed using Linear Mixed Effects Regression procedures. Primary findings are as follows: (1) adolescents with higher level of abuse or excessive interference showed higher level of aggression. (2) the aggression level of adolescents with higher level of abuse or excessive interference consistently decreased over time. (3) the link between abuse and aggression was significantly moderated by playing computer game. In conclusion, the negative effect of the abuse on adolescent aggression could be significantly decreased by playing computer game.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how young children's excessive immersion in smartphone games affects their prosocial and problematic behavior. To achieve the purpose, a qustionnaire survey was conducted with 147 children aged 3 to 5 going to two kindergartens and two child-care centers which were judged to have similar social and economic conditions, their mothers, and 16 teachers in charge of them. For data processing, SPSS 18.0 program was used to conduct frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and simple regression analysis. The study results were presented as follows. First, the more seriously the young children had excessive immersion in smartphone games, the more negatively their prosocial behavior was influenced. Secondly, the more severely the young children had excessive immersion in smartphone games, the more problematic behavior the young children had. This study is meaningful in the point that it analyzed the impact of their addiction in smartphone games on their prosocial and problematic behavior, and thereby helped to improve a plan of effectively using smartphones as educational media.
The purpose of this study was to investigate weight gain during pregnancy based on pre-pregnant Body Mass Index, to compare eating habits based on the recommended standards for weight gain presented by the Institute of Medicine, and to identify factors affecting the weight gain of pregnant women. The subjects were grouped into three categories according to the recommended weight gain standards presented by the Institute of Medicine: the inadequate group, the adequate group and the excessive group. The excessive group had a significantly higher pre-pregnant Body Mass Index than that of the two other groups. Based on a comparison of the eating habits and nutrient intake of the women to the recommended standards for weight gain, the excessive gain group had large meals and ate more frequently outside of the home when compared to the pre-pregnancy period. Based on an analysis of correlations between weight gain during pregnancy and diet factors, the adequate gain group had positive correlation between weight gain and a "balanced meal" and had negative correlation with "convenience meals". The excessive gain group had a positive correlation with "convenience meals" and had a negative correlation with "meal skipping." All the pregnant women were more frequent in the "overeating categories" and all ate more "fruit," as their weight gain was higher. In particular, the excessive gain group was frequently evaluated as "overeating". These results indicate that the factors affecting weight gain during pregnancy were the Body Mass Index before pregnancy, eating types, and eating habits. As the Body Mass Index before pregnancy was higher, the ingestion of a 'balanced meal' was less, and overeating and gluttony were more frequent. Therefore weight gain was enhanced.
The experiment was designed to determine the proper shading rate and shading materials to decrease the excessive dried leaves during cure of burley tobacco. Five shading rates and seaven shading materials were applied on the pipe vinyl house from initial stage or yellow stage of cure. Temperature was lower and weight-loss of leaves delayed with shading from initial stage to browning stage of cure. Excessive dried leave were largely decreased as shading rate was increased to 70%. However, at shading rate more than 70%, its decreasing extent was fewer. Price per kg and physical properties improved considerably at shading rate of 50%. Shading materials alone could not completely prevent excessive dried leaves but it could decrease them. Orange, white and purple color vinyl among shading materials had so effects of shading as the black shading cloth during curing. However, white color vinyl didn't endure more than a few months due to sunshine. A difference of light quality in visible light was no significance on air curing.
Background: An excessive pronated foot is defined as a flattening or complete loss of the medial longitudinal arch. Excessive foot pronation is considered to have high risk factors of overuse injuries in the lower limb. Various treatments have been investigated in attempts to control excessive pronation. Objects: This meta-analysis identifies the effects of an anti-pronation taping technique using different materials. Methods: The electronic databases used include MEDLINE, the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Science Direct, the Korean Studies Information Service System (KISS), the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), the Korea National Library, and the Korean Medical Database (studies published up to July 31, 2019). The database search used the following keywords: "foot drop" OR "foot arch" OR "foot pronation" OR "flat foot (pes planus)" AND "taping" OR "support." Eight eligible studies were analyzed to determine the effectiveness of anti-pronation taping in study and control groups. Results: The overall random effect size (Hedges'g) of the anti-pronation taping technique was 0.147 (95% confidence interval [CI]: -.214 to .509). When the effect (Hedges' g) was compared by the type of tape material, rigid tape (RT; Lowdye taping) was .213 (95% CI: -.278 to .704) and kinesiotape (KT; arch support taping) was -.014 (95% CI: -.270 to .242). Based on this meta-analysis, it was not possible to identify the extent to which anti-pronation taping was effective in preventing navicular drop, improving balance, or changing foot pressure. Only three of the eight eligible studies applied KT on excessive pronated feet, and the outcome measure areas were different to those of the RT studies. The KT studies used EMG data, overall foot posture index (FPI) scores, and rear foot FPI scores. In contrast, the RT studies measured navicular heights, various foot angles, and foot pressure. Conclusion: This review could not find any conclusive evidence about the effectiveness of any taping method for patients with pronated feet. Future studies are needed to develop the anti-pronation taping technique based on the clinical scientific evidence.
