  • The purpose of this study is to ascertain whether event tracking is more effective in event retrieval than information filtering. This study examined the two techniques for event retrieval to suggest the more effective one. The event-retrieval performances of the event tracking technique based on a kNN classifier and the query-based information filtering technique were compared. Two event tracking experiments, one with the static training set and the other with the dynamic training set , were carried out. Two information filtering experiments, one with initial queries and the other with refined queries, were also carried out to evaluate the event-retrieval effectiveness. We found that the event tracking technique with the static training set performed better than on with the dynamic training set. It was also found that the information fitering technique using intial queries performed better than one using the refined queries. In conclusion, the comparison of the best cases of event tracking and information filtering revealed that the information filtering technique outperformed the event tracking technique in event retrieval.

  • This paper proposes a method of player event retrieval using combination of two functions: detection of player name in speech information and detection of sound event from audio information in golf videos. The system consists of indexing module and retrieval module. At the indexing time audio segmentation and noise reduction are applied to audio stream demultiplexed from the golf videos. The noise-reduced speech is then fed into speech recognizer, which outputs spoken descriptors. The player name and sound event are indexed by the spoken descriptors. At search time, text query is converted into phoneme sequences. The lists of each query term are retrieved through a description matcher to identify full and partial phrase hits. For the retrieval of the player name, this paper compares the results of word-based, phoneme-based, and hybrid approach.

  • Traditional Pub/Sub(Publish/Subscribe) Systems search all subscriptions that match an incoming event by broker(i.e. it is not considering the accuracy of matching between an incoming event and subscriptions and only consider that an event either matches a subscription or not). However, subscriptions that match an event may have priority, therefore, we need priority Pub/Sub system. In this paper, we define what the accuracy means in order to prioritize among subscriptions and propose the Priority Retrieval Technique based on accuracy that able to search subscriptions. The Priority Retrieval Technique is based on IS-Lists. We can search the results ordered by accuracy.

  • Semantic photo retrieval has been an important role in reducing the semantic gap between the simple visual features and the abundant semantics delivered by a photo. Effective photo retrieval using semantics is one of the major challenges in photo retrieval. And we propose a new event semantic photo retrieval method by using photo annotation user interface. In this paper, A photo album management system that facilitates photo management and semantic retrieval, which fully relies on the MPEG-7 standard as an information base and a native XML database, has been designed and implemented.

  • Nowadays, many investigators are studying various methodologies concerning event expression for semantic retrieval of video data. However, most of the parts are still using annotation based retrieval that is defined into annotation of each data and content based retrieval using low-level features. So, we propose a method of creation of the motion unit and extracting event through the unit for the more semantic retrieval than existing methods. First, we classify motions by event unit. Second, we define semantic unit about classified motion of object. For using these to event extraction, we create rules that are able to match the low-level features, from which we are able to retrieve semantic event as a unit of video shot. For the evaluation of availability, we execute an experiment of extraction of semantic event in video image and get approximately 80% precision rate.

  • As computing devices become ubiquitous and increasingly mobile, it becomes obvious that a synchronous and direct peer-to-peer communication model is not sufficient in distributed computing environment. Using an indirect event service instead of other traditional communication model has an advantage of decreasing the coupling of applications in a distributed environment and removing the need for many static dependencies. In this paper, we design and implement the secure event service for providing secure ubiquitous computing environment. The Secure Event Service implemented enables users to perform content-based event retrieval, and supports only eligible event comsumer and event producer can publish and receive events through the secure event service. SPKI/SDSI certificate is used for supporting authentication and authorization in the secure event service. In order to provide a content-based event retrieval, an asynchronous communication between event producers and consumers, and a disconnectedness support for mobile devices, we modify and expand the Javaspace package.

  • Previous research has revealed that people feel past target events are more distant when they recall more intervening events, event markers, that are both accessible in memory and perceived to be related to that target event (Zauberman, Levav, Diehl, and Bhargave 2010). This phenomenon was called the systematic effect of event markers (SEEM). In this research, we explore the moderating effect of the valence of the target event on SEEM and suggest the difficulty of recalling event markers as the possible mechanism. Study 1 shows that SEEM mainly occur when the valence of the target event is negative rather than positive. Study 2 showed that even though people have more difficulty recalling four event markers than one regardless of event valence, the difficulty of recalling event markers only mediates SEEM when the target event valence is negative. Furthermore, when the target event is positive, SEEM does not exist, confirming that the mediating role of the difficulty of recalling event markers on SEEM is moderated by the valence of the target event.

  • Recently, the necessity of systems which effectively store and retrieve video data has increased. Conventional video retrieval systems retrieve data using menus or text based keywords. Due to the lack of information, many video clips are simultaneously searched, and the user must have a certain level of knowledge to utilize the system. In this paper, we suggest a natural language based conversational video retrieval system that reflects users' intentions and includes more information than keyword based queries. This system can also retrieve from events or people to their movements. First, an event database is constructed based on meta-data which are generated by domain analysis for collected video in an office environment. Then, a script database is also constructed based on the query pre-processing and analysis. From that, a method to retrieve a video through a matching technique between natural language queries and answers is suggested and validated through performance and process evaluation for 10 users The natural language based retrieval system has shown its better efficiency in performance and user satisfaction than the menu based retrieval system.

  • Usage of EDR(Event Data Recorder) report for traffic accident analysis is currently increasing due to government regulation of EDR data release. Nevertheless, a lot of investigators simply adopt by comparing the number of ignition cycles(crash) at event to the number of ignition cycles(download) without an exact judgment whether event data occurred by this accident or not. In the EDR report, besides ignition cycles, there are many factors such as event record type, algorithm active(rear/rollover/side/frontal), time between events, event severity status(rollover/rear/right side/reft side/frontal), belt switch circuit status, driver/passenger pretensioner/air-bag deployment, PDOF(Principal Direction of Force) by ΔV to be able to decide whether or not to adopt. also the event data is considered enough to vehicle damaged state, accident situation at the scene of the accident. and there is described in "all data should be examined in conjunction with other available physical evidence from the vehicle and scene" in the CDR(Crash Data Retrieval) report. Therefore many investigators have to decide whether or not to adopt after they consider sufficiently to above factors when they are the traffic accident analysis and investigate the causes of a accident on the adopted event data. In this paper, we report to traffic accident investigators notable points and analysis methods on the basis of thousands of cases and the results of one's own experiment in NFS(National Forensic Service).

  • Event logging plays increasingly an important role in system and network management, and syslog is a de-facto standard for logging system events. However, due to the semi-structured features of Common Log Format data most studies on log analysis focus on the frequent patterns. The extensible Markup Language can provide a nice representation scheme for structure and search of formatted data found in syslog messages. However, previous XML-formatted schemes and applications for system logging are not suitable for semantic approach such as ranking based search or similarity measurement for log data. In this paper, based on ranked keyword search techniques over XML document, we propose an XML tree structure through a new data modeling approach for syslog data. Finally, we show suitability of proposed structure for semantic retrieval.
