Commercial titanium rod was anodized in three types of electrolytes such as 0.06 mol/L $\beta-glycerophosphate+0.3mol/L$ calcium acetate, 0.06mol/L $\beta-glycerophosphate+0.3mol/L$ sodium acetate and 0.06 mol/L $\beta-glycerophosphate+5mol/L$ calcium phosphate. The titanium oxide layer $(TiO_2)$ was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron spectroscopy chemical analysis (ESCA). Numerous micropores were observed on the titanium oxide layer by SEM. The diameter of micropores increased with the increase of electrolytic voltage. The titanium oxide layer was composed of anatase structure. The phosphorous element was detected at 130 eV binding energy, but calcium was not found in the oxide layer because of lower contents. After anodizing the oxide layer was etched in the 30g/L NaOH solution at $80^{\circ}C$ for 1hr. The surroundings of micropores were much more smoothed and rounded than before alkaline etching.
In this research, nitrogen plasma source ion implantation(PSII) of non-coated tungsten carbide endmill tools was conducted with low heat treatment for increasing wear resistance. After the low heat treatment of PSIIed tools to give a homogeneity of wear resistance, the surface modification of tools was analyzed by hardness test, surface roughness and cutting forces. As for the resultant cutting forces, low heat treatment in temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$ is stable because of low cutting resistance. The 20-minutes heat treated tool at spindle speed 25000rpm has superiority of surface roughness, Ra of $0.420{\mu}m$ and was found to have good wear resistance. The higher hardness value was obtained by increasing temperature from $300^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$ for PSIIed tools with low heat treatment. As the PSIIed tools under 10minutes at temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ have the highest hardness as Hv of 2349.8, It was analyzed that temperature processing give much influences on hardness.
Surface treatment using UV irradiation was carried out to improve optical properties of polarizing films. The effects of UV energy of the UV-treated PVA films were investigated by measuring reflectance, surface roughness, contact angles, ESCA, and ATR. Reflectance decreased at wavelength of 450 nm or less and surface roughness increased with increasing UV energy. Water contact angle increased in the irradiated PVA films and surface energy decreased with increase in w energy. An analysis showed that the OH groups were broken and some new groups were introduced such as C=C and C=O bonds together with increased $O_{1s}/C_{1s}$, resulting in the observed surface modification effect. Surface modified PVA polarizing films showed improvement in light transmittance of polarizing films at high wavelength region without deteriorating polarization efficiency, which was not affected by UV irradiation sequence during manufacturing processes such as coloring and drawing.
Fine lithographic technology in a submicron design regime is necessary for the fabrication of VLSI circuits. In such lithography, fine pattern delineation is performed by electron beam, ion beam and X-ray lithography instead of photolithography. Therefore, the new resist materials and development method have been required. So, we are investigating another positive E-beam resists which have high sensitivity and dry etching resistance, Plasma co-polymerized resist was prepared using an interelectrode gas-flow-type reacter. Methymethacrylate, tetramethyltin and styrene were chosen as the monomer to be used. The delineated pattern in the resist was developed with gas-flow-type reactor using an argon and 02 as etching gas. We studied about the effects of discharge power and mixing rate of the co-polymerized thin :film. The molecular structure of thin film was investigated by ESCA and IR, and then was discussed in relation to its quality as a resist.
A biocompatible polyelectrolyte complex multilayer (PECML) film consisting of poly-L-lysine (PLL) as a polycation and hyaluronic acid (HA) as a polyanion was developed to test its use for surface modification to prevent cell attachment and protein drug delivery. The formation of PECML through the electrostatic interaction of HA and PLL was confirmed by contact angle measurement, ESCA analysis, and HA content analysis. HA content increased rapidly up to 8 cycles for HA/PLL deposition and then slightly increased with an increasing number of deposition cycle. In vitro release of PLL in the PECML continued up to 4 days and ca. 25% of HA remained on the chitosan-coated cover glass after in vitro release test for 7 days. From the results, PECML of HA and PLL appeared to be stable for about 4 days. The surface modification of the chitosan-coated cover glass with PECML resulted in drastically reduced peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) attachment. Concerned with its use for protein drug delivery, we confirmed that bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a model protein could be incorporated into the PECML and its release might be triggered by the degradation of HA with hyaluronidase.
$In_1-x$$GA_X$$As_y$$P_1-y$ has a very wide range of applications in optoelectronic devices especially for optical communications because $In_1-x$$GA_X$$As_y$$P_1-y$ has the bandgap of the lowest dispersion ($1.3\mum$) and the lowest loss ( $1.55\mum$) of the optical fiber by changing the composition. The quality of $In_1-x$$GA_X$$As_y$$P_1-y$ epitaxial layer is believed to have a significant effect on the performance of device. The OMVPE growth conditions for the latticematched $In_1x$$GA_X$$As_y$$P_1-y$/InP were investigated. Effects of growth conditions such as V/III ratio, growth temperature, and Ga source material on the electrical and optical properties were studied. The composition, electrical and optical properities of $In_1-x$$GA_X$$As_y$$P_1-y$ were characterized using double crystal X-ray diffractometer (DCD), photoluminescence (PL), XPS(ESCA) and Hall measurement.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the chemical bond strength of successively recast Pd-Ag ceramic alloys with porcelain and to investigate changes of quantity of trace elements at the metal-porcelain interface. Porcelain was fired as usual manner on the each successively recast specimen. Rectangular planar shear test was performed and bond strength was measured by Instron universal testing machine. Diffusion of trace elements at the each interface was observed by ESCA (Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis). The obtained results were as follows : 1. Chemical bond strength was significantly decreased after second recasting. But in case of first recasting, there was no significant decrease of bond strength statistically (p<0.05). 2. Bond strength was not significantly decreased in each generation, when fifty percents new alloy was added (p<0.05). 3. Ag, Sn and In were observed at the porcelain interface. But Pd was not observed. 4. The quantity of Ag, In ions were progressively increased at the metal-porcelain interface as the casting was repeated. Silver ion was most significantly increased.
In order to prevent the thermal and enviromenatal degradation of contact materials a nickel layer was plated as an undercoat of gold plating on the surface phosphorous bronze. The thickness of nikel and gold coating and chemical resistance of the coatings were measured at various conditions. Variation of morphology and chemical composition was studied by SEM, EDS and ESCA, respectively. Nickel layer was found to act as a thermal diffusion barrier and to retard the diffusion of copper from substrate to gold coating in the temperature $200^{\circ}C$~$400^{\circ}C$. below $200^{\circ}C$gold coated contacts showed a stable and low contanct resistance, while above $200^{\circ}C$ rapid diffusion of copper formed copper oxide on the surface layer and raised the contact resistance. With the nickel thinkness of abount 5$\mu$m as an undercoat the gold thinkness of $0.5\mu$m, showed satistactory (less than 1 m$\Omega$) contact resistance below 20$0^{\circ}C$ and corresponding gold thinkness increased to 1.0 m at $300^{\circ}C$~$400^{\circ}C$.
The optimum thickness of Pd-Ni plated layers used as an electrical contact film was investigated by evaluating mechanical, thermal and environmental characteristics. The variations of morphologies and chemical compositions were studied by using SEM, EDS and ESCA. As a result of wear test, the wear resistance behavior of the gold plated layers was not changed with the sliding velocity changes. The palladium-nickel plated layer showed better wear resistance than the gold plated layer at low sliding velocity, but it showed poor wear resistance at high sliding velocity. Under the thermal condition of $400^{\circ}C$ in air, the gold thickness of $2\mu\textrm{m}$ without underplate on phosphorous bronze formed copper oxide on the surface layer by rapid diffusion of copper whereas the gold thickness of $0.8\mu\textrm{m}$ deposited on nickel and palladium-nickel underplate was stable at $400^{\circ}C$. Under the sulfur dioxide environments, the gold thickness of $0.3\mu\textrm{m}$ deposited on the nickel thickness of$ 3\mu\textrm{m}$ and the palladium-nickel thickness of $2\mu\textrm{m}$ underplate was more corrosion-resistant than the gold thickness of $2\mu\textrm{m}$ without underplate on phosphorous bronze. Under the nitric acid vapor environment, corrosion resistance of the gold film was superior to an equivalent thickness of the palladium-nickel film.
Lignin is one of the natural macromolecules. Every year large amount of lignin arises from the cellulose production as a by-product worldwide. The use of lignin as a precursor to carbonaceous materials has gained interest due to its low cost and high availability. Therefore, we improved the properties of alkali-lignin by exposing to gamma ray in this study. The alkali-lignin is irradiated by Gamma ray irradiation with varying doses. The char yields of alkali-lignin were investigated by increasing up to 50 kGy. The cross-linking and bond scission of alkali-lignin occur simultaneously during gamma ray irradiation. The crosslinking was predominantly accelerated by gamma ray irradiation up to 50 kGy. Bond scission predominantly occurs between 50 and 500 kGy. ESCA analysis indicated that the alcoholic carbon increase up to 50 kGy. Solution viscosity was increased as absorbed dose increased up to 20 kGy. In addition, the aromatic ring was not influenced by irradiation at doses ranging from 20 to 500 kGy as shown in FT-IR results.
