Micro-EDM technology (or the manufacture of miniature parts is used to make a micro hole. Two electrode shaping methods, mechanical electrode grinding and WEDG technique, have been studied. In this study, an electrode shaping method by using previously machined hole is introduced in order to obtain an optimal hole-making condition. Key factors such as applied voltage, capacitance, feedrate, and hole-dimension have an influence on the fabricating error of electrode shaping, which are taper ratio of a hole, electrode form accuracy, and electrode surface. Therefore, we try to investigate the optimal fabricating of electrode shaping from various experiments. Results from experiments, it was able to minimize the electrode fabricating error as voltage increases, and also applied feedrate and capacitance decreases.
Spindle state monitoring is getting more and more important according to the technology trend of spindle that is accurate and automated. Spindle state monitoring is to measure the state of rotation vibrations. The spindle rotation error motion detected by sensing device includes rotation object's unbalance, external forced vibrations, shape error of spindle, as well as measuring error of monitoring device. In this paper, we have inspected the runout characteristics. Also, we introduce the way to exclude the runout element that appear while you monitor a spindle state.

Conventional channel estimation methods for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system don't show the good characteristics in terms of fast fading channels. To solve this drawback in conventional methods, we propose the channel estimation method fur OFDM, assisted pilot for improvement and convergence in mobile system (APIM), which has a good performance and computational complexity in consideration of other methods. APIM uses the more developed concept of conventional methods and a block frame structure within a whole channel. This concept prevents overall performance from diverging or showing a poor one. The simulation results demonstrate the APIM outperforms pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) and extended symbol aided estimation (ESAE) in terms of mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER) performance under all Rayleigh fading environment. Considering the simulation performance and computational complexity, we can see APIM shows better characteristics than conventional methods for OFDM and has not any error floor even in a fast Rayleigh fading environment.
In this paper, the MFL (magnetic flux leakage) signals of complex defects on the underground gas pipeline are analyzed and their depths are estimated. Since closely-located defects (complex defects) affect each other, accelerate the progress of defection, and are finally combined to one (cluster), it's meaningful to differentiate complex defects from single defects by analyzing their characteristics. Various types of complex defects are characterized and analyzed by defining the safety distance for interference. 26 artificial defects are carved on the pipeline simulation facility (PSF) to analyze the characteristics of complex defect and demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed complex defect estimation. The proposed method shows average length error of 5.8 mm, average width error of 15.55 mm, and average depth error of 8.59%, respectively.
Inertial Navigation System(INS) provides short-term accurate navigation solution but its error grows with time due to integration characteristics. Meanwhile, Global Positioning System(GPS) provides long-term stable solution but it has poor error characteristics in high dynamic region. So for its synergistic relationship, an integrated INS/GPS systems has been widely used as an advanced navigation system. Generally, two kinds of integration method are used. One is loosely coupled mode which uses GPS-derived position and velocity as measurements in an integrated Kalman filter. The other is tightly coupled one which uses pseudorange and pseudorange rate as Kalman filter measurements. In this paper the system error models and observation models for two kinds of integrated systems are derived, respectively, and their performance are compared through Monte-Carlo simulations.
The gear whine noise caused by tooth profile, elastic deformation, machining error, wear is directly correlated with the transmission error of mating gear. It is very important to build up the synthesized countermeasure by the modeling of the excitation forces and analyzing the vibratory characteristics. The mathematical models on the elements of vehicle transmission which is composed of helical gears, bearings, shafts and cases are developed. The elements are assembled by the substructure synthesis method. The cases of transmission are modeled by ANSYS. The system model of vehicle transmission is also verified by the experiments.
The phase-locked loop(PLL) is a communication receiver which operates as a coherent detector by continuously correcting the phase error. In this paper analysis for the Phase-error behavior of analog phase-locked loop (APLL) in the presence of additive white gaussian noise has been done theoretically and experimentally. A close form solution of the first-order loop is obtained and approximate solutions are derived for the second-order loops with RC, leadlag and perfect integrator filters. The perdormance of APLL's and their characteristics are also thoroughly investigated through experiments. In order to analyze the effect of the stochastic nature on nonlinear dynamics characteristics of the second order APLL, the phase error distribution and its variance have been obtained by using the Fokker-Planck equation. Theoretical results agree closely with those of experiment.
In this study, we investigated the rotational characteristics which were comprised of directionality and linearity of target registration error (TRE) as a study in advance to enhance the accuracy of contour-based registration in neuronavigation. For the experiment, two rigid head phantoms that have different faces with specially designed target frame fixed inside of the phantoms were used. Three-dimensional coordinates of facial surface point cloud and target point of the phantoms were acquired using computed tomography (CT) and 3D scanner. Iterative closest point (ICP) method was used for registration of two different point cloud and the directionality and linearity of TRE in overall head were calculated by using 3D position of targets after registration. As a result, it was represented that TRE had consistent direction in overall head region and was increased in linear fashion as distance from facial surface, but did not show high linearity. These results indicated that it is possible for decrease TRE by controlling orientation of facial surface point cloud acquired from scanner, and the prediction of TRE from surface registration error can decrease the registration accuracy in lesion. In the further studies, we have to develop the contour-based registration method for improvement of accuracy by considering rotational characteristics of TRE.
A concept of hierarchical modeling, the newest modeling technology. has been introduced early In 1990. This nu technology has a goat potential to advance the capabilities of current computational mechanics. A first step to Implement this concept is to construct hierarchical models, a family of mathematical models which are sequentially connected by a key parameter of the problem under consideration and have different levels in modeling accuracy, and to investigate characteristics In their numerical simulation aspects. Among representative model problems to explore this concept are elastic structures such as beam-, arch-. plate- and shell-like structures because the mechanical behavior through the thickness can be approximated with sequential accuracy by varying the order of thickness polynomials in the displacement or stress fields. But, in the numerical analysis of hierarchical models, two kinds of errors prevail: the modeling error and the numerical approximation errors. To ensure numerical simulation quality, an accurate estimation of these two errors Is definitely essential. Here, a local a posteriori error estimator for elastic structures with thin domain such as plate- and shell-like structures Is derived using element residuals and flux balancing technique. This method guarantees upper bounds for the global error, and also provides accurate local error Indicators for two types of errors, in the energy norm. Comparing to the classical error estimators using flux averaging technique, this shows considerably reliable and accurate effectivity indices. To illustrate the theoretical results and to verify the validity of the proposed error estimator, representative numerical examples are provided.
Machining error is defined the normal distance between designed surface and actual tool path with tool deflection. This is inevitably caused by the tool deflection, tool wear, thermal effect and machine tool errors and so on. Among these factors, tool deflection is usually known as the most significant factor of machining error. Tool deflection problem is analyzed using Instantaneous horizontal cutting forces. The high quality and precision of machining products are required in finishing. In order to achieve these purposes, it is necessary work that decrease the machining error. This paper presents a study on the machining error caused by the tool deflection in ball end milling of 2 dimensional surface. Tool deflection model and simple machining error prediction model are described. This model is checked the validity with machining experiments of 2 dimensional surface. These results may be used to decrease machining error and tool path decision.
